    Gerd

@@rico31286I have had gerd for years, with a chronic cough. I was gonna have the sleeve, but was concerned a out gerd afterward. When i had my consult with the surgeon I mention this concern. Here is what he,said, " about 1/3 of sleeve patients, still will have gerd, however what,I have been seeing is 3 to 4 years out many people have, severe hardburn and end up converting to Rny." I'm not willi g to chance that, so even with my lower BMI, I'm going the RNY route. Hope that helps. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

  11. My surgeon said the same thing. Keep in mind that many sleeve patients end up having a revision to Rny some years out because of the gerd. Im not willing to take that chance. Rny for me. Good luck Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  12. I was told by my surgeon that you are more likely to have issues with gerd, after the sleeve. He said," 1/3 of sleeve patients will experience gerd after the sleeve, but what he is seeing now, 3 to 4 years after a sleeve surgery, many people experience horrendous gerd and are getting revision to Rny. Hope that sheds some light on the subject for you. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Is this reflux?

It can be horrible. I have had it so bad up my thoat, into my jaw that I could barely talk the pain, was so bad. Also, 3 times now in while I was sleeping, i was woke up to not being able to breath. The acid was choking me. I quickly shot out of bed and slowly sipped Water. It was a very scary experience. Then there is silent reflux, but that is,a whole other story. Hoping Rny eliminates the gerd. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Is this reflux?

I have gerd and have had it for years. When I went to my consultabout one month ago my surgeon said," about 1/3 of sleeve patients will get gerd after", also he,advised RNY because of my gerd. He,went on,to,say, that," what he is,seeibg more and more,3 to 4 years out of sleeve surgery patients are havibg horrible gerd and,are getting a revision to RNY". 16. I really dont think so, but I could be wrong. I think the loss is from the restricted caloric intake. Im worried about that also. That's the route I'm taking. I could gain another 40-50 lbs and MAYBE be approved, but I figure that will only cause more medical issues. I've told my family doctor my plan and surprisingly she didn't even try and talk me out of it. Not that that is her job, but I figured she'd give me the usual, you're not big enough to be doing such a drastic surgery. She never even voiced any concerns about me going the Mexico route.I've done a ton of research and feel very comfortable with the surgeon I have chosen. Although I am somewhat nervous and every once in a while question my decision, I wish my surgery was tomorrow so I can get on with my life. At only 28 years old, I don't want to live the rest of my life in depression. I am sick of my weight having this much control over my life. I realize this is a life long commitment but am looking forward to focusing on other things in my life than just the scale. It's a huge decision that only you can make, but I do think it's worth at least doing research and considering the Mexico option. There's probably only a handful of surgeons I've read about that I would consider using, but the same could probably be said for the States and Canada. I've wondered the same thing. My hair is very long and thick. I worry about losing too much. Granted I'll do it either way. I've read on realself from a doc that taking Biotin and a good multivitamin helps as well as keeping enough protien. Apparently it's worse if your Vitamin intake isn't right I'm starting the multivitamin and biotin now. My surgery won't he until sometime in feb. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

I was gonna have the sleeve. I dont have too much weight to lose, about 70lbs. I have had gerd for years and the surgeon said its very common to have it after the sleeve surgery and many people get revisions to the RNY. im not will to do that so RNY will be the,way I go. 22. Possibly! I'm NOT usually an emotional person. AT ALL! As I mentioned, I'm high strung and a bit crazy but not a crier. It doesn't help that it's the anniversary month on my dads passing and a friend was in a terrible car wreck and my son(my BABY) just joined the Marines. So this has been one hell of a month for me emotionally. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I have,a son in the Marines also. He,went in at 17 right out of HS. Hes been in a little over,a year now. This in itself is a hell of a rollercoaster ride. It will all be ok, one day at a time. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  23. It means that they had the sleeve, then some years later they had the RNY gastric bypass done. It is usually done because some sleeve patients get severe heartburn . This can be a side effect of the sleeve, for some. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
