    Needing friends going through VSG.

All ages are invited I just want a more intimate and private group, with no identifiable "weight loss surgery groups name" or anything! I think a diverse mix of ages and genders etc would be helpful and we can connect a little more personal then.
  2. Hi dimples, For me I use the free my fitness pal app to track what I eat each day. I do track my major exercise in there (like spin class but not like cleaning or anything unless I break a sweat or its for a prolonged time) I also do not allow myself to eat my exercise calories back. Meaning when I burn 600 calories spinning the app puts it as food calories to eat, but I ignore that. I have found 1400 is about what I can eat and feel satisfied with. Sometimes I am under and sometimes over (I split a Cinnabon with my husband at the mall last week- when we were shopping, those have 500 calories in a just a HALF!) that was an over day for example! For me right now pre surgery: Breakfast: Fage Greek yogurt (the fruit mix in kind) or a premier protein shake (Carmel or chocolate are my favorites) also I add some cold brew coffee to the Carmel one if I am craving a morning coffee and it taste like a latte! Lunch: tuna with light mayo with a few thin crackers or on a turnamo( low carb wrap) instead of bread, a string cheese, A salad with Turkey and low calorie dressing, maybe some baked chips if I am craving a crunch or An apple. Some left overs of my high protien dinner the night before ( like chicken shishka bob and veggies that were on the grill, marinaded in soy sauce and a little honey & cider vinegar) And if I know I will be low on protein for the day( if I had a salad for lunch, then I drink a premier protien shake with/ after lunch. Dinner: this varies a lot! Some times on weekends I eat a CRAP dinner like a Friday fish fry, but eat less breading and only a tiny bit of tarter sauce on it, and the fries (I am a totally fry person, if your not sub for veggies to save on the carbs, but I love salty more than sweet so that is my treat instead of chocolate) I have found a lot of high protein recipes online that I use! Tonight for example we are eating a baked chicken breast, stuffed with apple slices and a little Gouda cheese, baked with some cubed sweet potatoes mixed with a dash of pam olive oil salt and pepper - baked all on one baking sheet for easy clean up. I have subed out white pasta for edamame pasta (get it at costco) or lentil pasta, and that taste fine to me with sauce and meatballs etc. even my husband eats it. I try and use marinades on things a lot more instead of sauces, I have found that helps keep calories low. I also love green beans, zucchini or a salad- and I use those a lot with dinner, to try and fill up and get some nutrients, as early on my dietician mentioned I needed more fruit/ veg in my diet. I have done riced cauliflower and mashed cauliflower as substitutes for rice or potatoes they are ok but not the same as the originals my husband won't eat them. I limit myself to one "carb" serving with dinner, so no more than 1/2-1 cup of rice, potatoes or bread item at dinner. I am a carb-a-holic otherwise. And try to avoid them at every other meal. Snacks/ desserts that are healthier than the alternatives that I like: beanitos chips (instead of tortilla chips, taste the same and has more protein) with guac or salsa. Halo top ice cream is only like 200 calories in a pint, so a scoop of that is very reasonable if you are craving ice cream. I also do make myself exercise 45mins 2x a week. I have done lots of different classes: once a week- like spin, a water jogging, boot camp, boxing, and I have an eliptical at home for my second time a week. I like to switch classes as I have a drop in style pass for place near me and I prefer trying different things and different times fit my schedule better. My surgeon said exercise would help weight come off faster and also help with avoiding loose skin, which I really would like to try and do, as best as I can. Good luck to you! I love sharing recipes if you are ever interested!

    Birth Control

I switched to nexoplan implant a few months ago. Looking to have surgery in May or June. I did that for these reasons. 1: nexoplan does not have estrogen so it is a lower stroke risk from higher BMI people. 2: I know I don't want to get pregnant for the weightloss period of 1-2 years. 3: I don't have to remember anything daily or monthly 4:it lasts a maximum of 3 years and it is removable when ever I choose. Added benefit for me: I have not had a period since it was put in, though I heard it can take a little bit for your body to get used to it. It depends on the person.

    Anyone in Wisconsin?

I am going with Dr. Chua. He is the medical director of Bariatric surgery for Aurora in Milwaukee, which is why I chose him. I have completed all my paper work and aurora pre work- just waiting on my insurance to review the paper work and decide if they will approve me or not. Should know in the next few weeks.

    Tired of eggs

I haven't had surgery yet, but I have had to follow a high protien diet for the last 3 months to be approved. I like Fage Greek yogurt, the passion fruit is my fav or strawberry. Also premier protein shake- Carmel flavor with some cold brew coffee, taste like a latte! I have also made these little breakfast muffin things, by putting a slice or two of deli ham in a muffin cup and pouring raw scrambled egg on top and a touch of cheddar. Bake for like 10 mins and store in fridge, then I reheat them in the morning for breakfast and I think they are like a carb free breakfast sandwich. Sorry I know it still has egg, but at least it's got other yummy stuff too!
  6. I have scheduled my last apt with the surgeon next week, and pending my H/Pylori test being negative I will be getting a surgery date within the next two week. Now that I am getting close started the research processes in Sept. I have Jumped though all the insurance hoops, watched and read everything I can on surgery, and people's experiences etc. I am getting cold feet not getting super excited like I have heard other people do when getting close. I am not sure if it is normal cold feet or if I should really back out of surgery. I have lost 23 lbs in the last 3 months following the diet and exercise ( making lifestyle changes, which I know I would need to continue surgery or not to stay healthy.) The permanence of surgery is kinda freaking me out, the thought that I may never just be able to binge eat and watch Netflix or something ever again (I know not healthy! Or good) but the never ever ever everness is freaking me out. I feel in general I have done well in the past 3 months making better choices and working out, not all the time but enough to lose good weight and be on track I would say, have had some pizza or frys sometimes but still getting protein and not going over my calories from my NUT so I feel like I am getting used to the "lifestyle". I just think even if I did NOT get the surgery and just continued being healthier, I would never lose the 110- 120lbs that I still need to lose to be at my goal/ healthy weight. I feel like WLS will be that tool to give me that extra edge and ability to get there. What do you guys think? I am a foodie, and I pray that my body doesn't become a picky eater or can't tolerate things because I love adventurous food and travel! Is the risk worth the reward, do you feel like your life is normal? I Am just sick of needing to think about weight for stupid things, Like when I went zip lining in Costa Rica, or I wanted to do free fall fly thing and I am afraid I will be like a rock and not get air, I am worried I won't be able to fit I a roller coaster, this is just not good and I can't go any further down this path. Sorry for the ramble but would appreciate advice and experiences and others feelings. HW:273 CW:249

    I think I am a hypocrite!

It maybe noticeable to see someone had lost weight- but that doesn't change that it is a sensitive topic or something some people many not want to discuss with co workers or something. Everyone is different. Just because someone has not had surgery doesn't mean they have never lost or gained considerable amounts of weight and can't have an opinion on this topic. I lost a lot of weight when in college by major restriction and over exercise and I HATED when people would bring it up. I hated running into old friends of the family for that reason! I just wanted to be treated like everyone else and not have a conversation about my weight with people. If I run into someone who had a nose job I wouldn't be like "whoa you look really good now" I think it may make them think, "gee I obviously chose to have a nose job (or lost weight) because I was uncomfortable before, now that you took time to point it out I know you were thinking the same thing". I personally think commenting on people bodies or talking about them is a big NO NO unless they bring up the topic of weight loss first.

    I think I am a hypocrite!

I think you are lucky! I am a private person and not planning to tell anyone but my parents and husband about WLS. I have mentioned eating better to friends and co workers, so they aren't shocked and have lost weight pre surgery- but I really REALLY don't want people to say things like "whoa you really lost weight, or how did you do it etc" it makes me super uncomfortable to talk about weight with people. I loath the idea of my aunts or other relatives bringing this up at family events...
  9. I keep reading differing experiences on the sleeve, I know all bodies are different - but since I won't know until I do the surgery I am just wanting to know the "odds: chances" that my hunger will be gone or less. I can't find any statistics around this anywhere. Does anyone know the stats like: 75% of patients are significantly less hungry 10% never feel hunger again and have to remind them self to eat 10% have the same amount of hunger as they did pre surgery and 5% are hungry than before surgery. Also what is your specific experience with hunger levels right after surgery and longer term for people who are a little farther out?
  10. Has anyone been sleeved in the Milwaukee area and by who/ what group. Would you recommend them? I am looking at Wheaton Franciscan, Aurora Metro, and Columbia St. Mary's and would love to hear people experiences with any of them. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I am pre op vsg and I know you get full faster need to focus on Protein etc. my question is l, when you get full quickly are you also feeling satisfied? Like have you noticed your cravings are better and you don't crave more and more portion wise. Right now I would consider myself someone that doesn't graze all day or snack but when I eat a meal like dinner it is a big meal with seconds- or at a restaurant I don't have left overs, where "normal" people would. 12. I'm sure the answers will vary but I am wondering what most people felt good about. I am calling it a hernia surgery, to explain my absence to co workers. My company offers 26weeks full pay short term disability for surgery, so I want to know what would be a good amount of recovery, where I will feel more normal not tired and crabby or in pain, and also not just eating liquids and I am back to "normal"ish foods... 13. I got the Nut approval done and I have my psych eval next week. After that I have to wait for insurance but in the mean time I wanted to start some Vitamins and adding them to my routine. What are your favorite ones? Also I have tried powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein and the chocolate is the best flavor to me, premier protien seems ok, but again chocolate seems better than the other flavors (I am not a Choco-Holic by the way, but the other flavors are so fake or thick I can't stand it) I like Isopure "waters" ok as well - a little weird but tolerable. Any other suggestions on ones to try? I HATE when they are overly thick and pudding like, by the way. Also if anyone is thinking they will be a April sleeve candidate let me know as I would love to have a "buddy" around the same time! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. Hi all, I am 30 and in WI. I have my NUT approval and getting then psych visit on 3/1. And have met with the surgeon. Projected to have sleeve hopefully in April. 5'5" HW: 275 CW: 259 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. How do you handle people asking "what your doing to lose weight" or asking "how much weight have you lost" I am worried about how to handle questions. I am not comfortable talking about weight with other people. I am not telling anyone other than my family about surgery, and I am expected to lose 85-125lbs (which I know is noticeable weight loss) is there any easy way to try and shut down people asking, like just brush it off like, "oh I don't know, just being healthy" I am pre surgery and have mentioned to friends/ coworkers that I am trying to get healthy and eating right. I am also planning to call my surgery a hernia surgery, as an explanation since I will be out of work for a bit and obviously people will ask and wonder and that would explain soreness etc in my stomach area... Has anyone else used this excuse? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How do you handle people asking questions

I haven't really thought too much about going to restaurants with friends/ co workers. What do u usually say when people ask or comments from wait staff? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. I think it depends on the program. I have to see a nutricianist for 3 months one visit a month and track eating exercises and have documented some weightloss and healthy eating behavior for them to clear me for surgery. As they feel this ensures the best outcome for long term success. I am hoping for surgery in March and have 1 more visit with my nut in Feb. I have lost on my own and defiantly am making better choices pre surgery, so I Am sure that will help with pre surgey health .
  18. My surgeon said he does not require liquid pre op for anyone with a BMI under 50, which I luckily am. Has anyone else had a Surgeon tell them they don't need the pre op liquid diet? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. I am pre op and trying to get my arms around hearing about gaining weight after surgery. I have heard and read about people getting back up to their starting weight. I am so confused on how this happens- other than people pushing their food limits wayyy beyond what they should be. If you eat "incorrectly" on Occasion or eat normal foods, just in smaller portion will this weight gain occur? What have people time after surgery and weight gains looked like? Also what do you attribute it to? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Weight gaining after sleeve?

Thank you to everyone for thier response. I am not a big snacker and my issue is when I eat I like to eat a big portion of not so healthy things, though over all I eat a variety of things and like everything from sushi to seafood to salads and cake, I'm just a foodie and can't get enough! And it takes a big portion to fill me. But I am hoping with the feeling of full the sleeve provides i will lose weight and feel satisfied- eating healthier and getting my protien but I still want to be able to try and eat different thing.

    Vsg with MiniMiser ring?..

I talked to my surgeon about this option and he said in the U.S. most insurances don't cover it. He also didn't recommend it, as it adds more unnecessary risk for complication by inserting a foreign object, also it can wear out, slip, be too tight, etc. So he feels it is not worth it. 22. Hi all, I am looking into surgery but for the liquid diet phase I am really nervous as when I go without food for too long, like half a day I get shakey and out of it feeling. I am worried about how I can do a liquid phase without my body shutting down? Also long term after surgery having to do liquids will I continue to be super weak and shakey the whole time!? Did anyone else have this worry and how did you handle it? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Regrets?

Does anyone regret having the sleeve done? If you do or don't regret it what would be the main gripes or changes you have had to adapt to? Even things like it's harder to go to dinner parties or even small things- I want to hear it all! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. XmeghannstarX

    Portion size?

What is everyone eating, after the post op diet? Realistically how much food is filling you up? Like 1/2c in one sitting? After you are one/ two years out does the amount increase at all or just what you are able to tolerate gets better? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  25. XmeghannstarX

    Regrets?

Did everyone tell friends/ co workers. I am not planning to tell anyone other than immediate family and I don't know how to handle like dinner invites or work party's/ food days? Just say i am eating healthy? I am worried if someone confronts me and the amount I eat what to say. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
