    Full not satisfied

I did at puree and still do sometimes now. I feel full but annoyed I can’t eat more than a little bit. Sometimes I feel jealous of my husband being able to eat normal. I think it’s just part of the process and all mental. Sorry I can’t help more but I definitely experience that as well.

    Working out and weightloss

I try to give myself an extra protien boost on my gym days. So if I have a spin class at 5pm- I eat a protein bar at 3pm or have a protein shake after the class. Your body will need some extra “food” for working out. If I don’t eat an extra snack or meal 2 hours-ish before a workout I feel very faint and have almost blacked out in class. We are in such low calories you need to help yourself out. Also too much restriction can lead to a stall as well. Keep working out and eating healthy and u will lose. When you have an extra snack or meal on workout day as long as it isn’t a cheeseburger and frys it is totally fine!
  3. I was told stay away from ground beef for a bit because of the fat and also “gritty ness” of it. During my puree I did tuna and the ricotta bake as well. Hang in there that was my least favorite stage.

    Taking vitamins post sleeve

Sorry just reread your question. Can you swallow the capsules or are they just too big? My doctor let me start swallowing pills maybe 2 weeks after surgery so I did pretty normal pill size at that point- took a bit longer for big ones..

    Taking vitamins post sleeve

Not sure how far out you are but I have a kids multi vitamin with iron that is chewable and then I do a biotin and b12 both sublingual (melt under your tounge) the only one that was hard for me at first was the calcium pills since they are big to swallow! So I bought Bariatric advantage chewable ones and eat 2 twice a day- separate from the first 3 I take in the morning as iron and calcium won’t absorb together as well. Hope it helps!
  6. I had surgery in June, down 75lb total now since I started inJan with my lifestyle changes. I started to volunteer more, it made me feel useful and happy as well as grateful. I also have found I enjoy crafting. I have found an easy pattern for these dog tug toys made out of fleece. I donate them to dog rescues or give them away. It keeps my hands busy and doesn’t make too much of a mess and I am not good at knitting! Below is a link to explain how to do it! http://dalmatiandiy.blogspot.com/2015/08/diy-for-dogs-square-knot-fleece-tug-toy.html?m=1

Day of... what was it like for you?

Mine was 6-13-17 early in the morning 6am. Checked in, got to the pre op room, had to wipe down with these disinfectant wipes and put on a gown. Got an IV and my team came in one by one to say hi. Nurse, surgeon, PA etc. signed some paper work and then they wheeled my bed into surgery. I only remember my bed getting on the elevator whatever they gave me for nerves wiped my memory after that. I can’t remember anything other than waking up. Not in a ton of pain or anything just tired. I had some hot flashes and made them bring me a fan in my room cuz I was sweating. Not sure why! I was just so damn hot! Lol by probably 2pm I was awake enough and my husband helped me stand up, I peed and then walked the halls a bit to try and help with the gas pains. I had a few ice chips that first day for my dry mouth and hotness. Sitting up for me was a PAIN I needed help getting upwards cus my abs were so sore. Every time they gave me my pain meds, like every 6 hours- I would fall asleep in like 5 mins (dilaudid is an amazing drug) I also took anti nausea meds and blood thinner shots while in the hospital. I also had to wear these Super annoying blow up leg things for blood flow that I hated! I ended up staying an extra day because when it was time to try and eat I couldn’t do it- like the smell and drinking enough water just couldn’t happen so I stayed so I could be on IV one more day.

When will I feel normal again?

I was sleeved 6/13 so it's been about 12 days ago for me. I totally understand your pain and I ask myself that as well. When will I feel "normal" I think for me it's the ability to eat most "normal foods" and also I would agree the chest pressure/ cramps that sometimes are occurring for me going away would be a good help as well!

    Peas/Avacado

My nut said yes on avocado, but no on beans or peas during puree stage. But I think she is very conservative in foods.

    Real Good Pizza

I am going to try one as soon as I am back to "normal food"

  12. I am sure you have a great doctor, but maybe clarify he/she wants only water for 2 weeks? Perhaps there is a miscommunication. I have researched these surgeries for a long time and read many medical journals and different doctors schools of thought but I have not come across a doctor who recommends going that long with just water. I have seen clear liquid for a long time, but again I believe they are adding protein supplements. I would be slightly concerned about healing and recovery with the absences of anything but water for that long. I started protein shakes and vitamins, probably 3/4 days post op along with cream soups.
  13. Got my date, June 13th. They could do it sooner but I am a little nervous and still want have some time to think and I Also, have to get a ton more pre surgery tests done. Blood work, EKG, X-rays, gallbladder ultrasound... Did anyone else have to do that many more tests?! I am 30 and other than over weight- I am healthy (no diabetes, high blood pressure etc) I keep going back and forth between excited to get skinnier, healthier, and feel better. And worry/ fear that I won't be able to maintain the healthy life style, it will be all for nothing and I will be back where I am now or I will end up never being able to eat again without being sick or some other health issue. I feel like my family is supportive and thinks it's great for me to do this, even my General Doctor is really positive and excited for me, but I don't know if they really get the changes and the life commitment I am making. Or the chance that I could fail at this too. Plus I am the only obese one in my immediate family so I don't know if they really get the up and down with weight and stuff anyways and if they just think, hey you'll look normal and be healthy what's the down side?! I have lost 30lbs pre op dieting, in 4 months but I KNOW I can not get to a 130lb goal without surgery. I still have 110 to go, and I have been stalling this last week or two at 240 even though I am eating about 1400 calories a day, exercise 2x a week, and high protein low carb diet. I hear and read so much about how it is easy to eat around the sleeve or gain back if you don't change things long term. There are some things I can see myself doing forever like protein shakes for breakfast, I like them they are good, give up soda, sure I have done that for 3 months and I am doing fine with it.... Then their are other things I don't know how long I can do without like French fries, pizza, or bread. Did anyone else question this when the approval came in? Regrets of surgery? Postpone surgery, or cancel it fully?

  15. Hi all, I know it depends on person and how much you had to lose, how active you were and how you eat but I am wondering for those who have hit goal? Or are close how long did it take you? If you are comfortable sharing your numbers (stats) that would be great for reference. I have about 110 to lose for my goal. Also how much exercise and how serious you were about doing low/no carb during that time would be helpful. Also do you have an opinion on if you should hit it as hard as you can exercise like crazy eat no carb for the first year and then once in maintain mode ease up into a more normal life, or did you try to keep some normalcy the whole time? Like having a little bit of carbs or a sweet on occasion and moderate exercise?
  16. Looking for another person who is being sleeved June 13th that I can really connect with so we can support each other: snap chat, texts, messages whatever! Only my husband and parent know I am doing this, and none of them have been through this. I am hoping to get a sleeve-mate so we can empathize and encourage each other! About me: I am 31 year old female, married, no kids (one furbaby dog) and live in the Midwest. I love traveling, adventure, and animals. I have a bachelors degree and a full time corporate job working in digital e-commerce. I am a foodie (ironic?, I think not.) And I love cooking and all types of cuisine. Feel free to reply or PM me if you are a June 13th-ER or close and think we may hit it off!

    June sleeve buddies?

I would be intersted in joining a FB group, as long as it's set as secret- as I am not sharing the procedure with friends or co workers etc. only my husband and parents know.

    Secret Sleever

I asked the same question too, has anyone done this on the down low? And it seems like I was not alone in not telling anyone but my immediate support people (my mom and my husband) my friends, co workers, boss, and other family members are all being told that I have a hernia surgery (to explain my missing work and such) i have been on the pre op diet for 4 months and lost 30lbs already- and most of my coworkers know I am eating healthier etc as I have not been eating doughnuts or cookies that they bring in, so I am hoping since it has been known since Jan that anymore faster or additional weightloss will be attributed to that and not WLS. If anyone asks I say I am seeing A nutricianist and doing low carb high protien diet, working out more. All is true, just not going to talk about a personal medical procedure with people. I am not that open of a person, and it makes me uncomfortable to think someone would want to talk about my weight. I still think it's an odd thing to complement someone on -losing weight. But that is just my personal opinion and I know some people love others noticing.

    Needing friends going through VSG.

If you would like to join please send me a private message with a link to your Facebook page or your Facebook name and what your Facebook pic looks like and I can send you an invite to join the group. I have this set as a secret group so only members are able see if, find it, post in it etc. so no outside people can Find it. It is also just called Pals.
  25. Hi guys, I am not telling anyone other than my husband and parents about surgery. I am wondering if anyone would be interested in joining a private closed Facebook group (named Pals or something ambiguous) that could be for supporting each other more personally, sharing images, recipes, and such - in more of an intimate group setting? Maybe something like this already exists and I just don't know about it? I like the Bariatric pals forum for questions and such but looking to start a smaller more intimate network of friends with the same experience to support each other, because in "real life" I am not talking about this with people and don't know anyone else going through it. I know local support groups exist but in my area it is a lot of much older people than me, and meet 1x a month at a not so convenient time and location and they bring in a guest speaker each month who just talks about a topic for an hour, it just feels like an informational seminar not a group. Let me know if anyone is interested and I can start something up.
