Ugh! That's frustrating. It took me about 6 days. There's a lot to review. I just had to be patient. They will call when it's time. Let me know how things go. Dawnie_doo

Well, I was gonna start a topic about this forum and all it's benefits to WLS patients and more specifically RAVE about that great guy ALEX who saw fit to create this Forum.
Buuuuuuut.......it seems the rules say I can't rave about the members.....(Recycled <--------stirring the pot)

Ok, to give it to you straight, if you're snorting the coke and smoking the pot, it's your lungs and your circulatory system being impacted, not your stomach or your digestive system. The alcohol is the only one you have to worry about strictly as a result of the surgery. In terms of cardiac issues from the coke, that is a different kind of problem. Smoking pot is pretty much not going to hurt you, but skip the special brownies for awhile just to be on the safe side. Obviously avoid booze until your stomach is healed and after that understand your stomach is smaller and many of us have a reduced tolerance. Now, as a disclaimer, drugs and booze are bad for you.
Also, while I generally say "ask your doctor" definitely do not do that until after you've had surgery or he might be ethically obligated to turn you down for the procedure. After you've had surgery, you're pretty much clear to ask him whatever you want because HIPAA keeps your records confidential and honestly, I would strongly encourage running it by him at a point when you can no longer be rejected for the procedure. Also, obviously lie about that part during your psych consult.
Also, you don't find medical studies based on coke, pot, and other illegal substance abuse after WLS because no IRB is ever going to approve a study with human subjects that watches what happens when you give them illegal drugs after they've had major surgery. It would be a gross violation of pretty much every aspect of medical and research ethics. It's less because there is a huge issue with it and more because it's not something that can be legally or ethically researched.

We all know this is a lifestyle change. It would be great to know others experiences- not to repeat the same thing over and over again. We are each our own person if you don't agree- don't try to change others way of life. I damn well for sure know I work hard enough and deserve to unwind once in awhile. If my unwinding is different then yours so be it. Hope some more people have actual comments in this thread of past experiences. Jmc I would try the same question in the post op forum. I came in here on accident originally being a post op myself. Good luck!

I have not done cocaine in over 3 years and don't plan to. I do drink and smoke pot from time to time though. It's more of a general question. I appreciate any and all comments

I hope some people associate with this issue. I tried googling it but it didn't give many answers. I don't really feel comfortable asking my doctor about this issue so that is why I posted it here, hoping I'd get some feedback. Thanks so much everyone

Thank you very much miss_smiles! It's a serious question. I'm nervous because I've been used to a certain lifestyle and that's all going to change. I love going to concerts and just enjoying myself because I work very hard during the week to unwind on the weekends. I am not an addict by any means but sometimes it's around and I like to have a good time. I want to know what my limitations are. Thank you

The first sentence of the post was not to judge- and the first response was just that. If you don't have something to contribute to the convo then don't post at all.
In response to the original post, I have been asking the same question myself. I am 3 weeks post op on Monday. I haven't done anything but I am going to give myself 3 months for alcohol and 3 months for weed too. I just will need to control the munchies and drink Water instead which won't harm your stomach if you haven't eaten cause it will run straight through you. As for the coke, I'm going to a festival next month and will be doing some uppers probably Molly/E I think I'll be fine if I stay hydrated but I'll let y'all know.
