    Eating without drinking...

Just for the record, My doc has the ol' 30 minutes-pre / 2 hours post meal. Maybe 2 hrs is too long, but.....after the money, time, and pain, I'll feel better knowing that I'm using my band as directed.

When To Get Serious About This Post-Op?

Thanks, Ceradad, that gives me a much clearer goal. I agree, tall guys have a lot farther to push that iron!

    Texarkana Bandsters

Hello all....checking in, since I saw Lisa scold some of us that don't regularly post (LOL). Things are great for me so far. I'm down almost 40 lbs, and will get my first fill on March27th. I'm excited. Maybe after my first fill, I'll be a little closer to y'all's weight loss stories. Good luck and, uh.....stay in the box.
  5. I actually HAVE heard of this movie before. I think Ben Stein was on the Fox News channel, discussing a movie he was making. I think (from what I can recall) the movie is not so much about intelligent design vs. evolution as it is about religious intolerence. Stein is very intelligent......I can't wait to see this movie. The bad news is that Michael Moore will probably release a rebuttal movie.

Rollercoasters - no, NOT the emotional kind!

Fenton, I'm with ya, brother. This last October we took the kids to 6 Flags (Arlington, Tx). I was at my heaviest (around 370) and fit into most of the coasters, but just barely, and certainly not comfortably. Hopefully the next trip will be different for me, and I'm sure you will be able to ride very soon.

When To Get Serious About This Post-Op?

Sorry to kinda "break" the topic, but I wanted to ask Ceradad, if it's not too personal: About how tall are you? I noticed on your ticker that we're close to the same starting weight, and pretty fairly close (I think) in ending goals. I read somewhere that you were a powerlifter, and I'm built like that too. I never lost all my muscle......only put a thick layer of fat over it. Anyway, I'm pushing 6'4", and don't have a super clear idea of a weight goal. I told my doc I want to get down to cardiac-healthy waist size (36- 34). I'm trying to get an idea of what weight (ballpark estimate) goal I should be. Just as a yardstick to judge how I'm doing.

Hogwild, as stated before....the preop diet is the worst / most difficult. That first salad will be the best salad you've ever had in your life!! Hang in there, minute by minute if necessary. It helps to stay busy doing something.

I'm So Sick Of These Commercials!!!!

There's already been a big crackdown on advertising like this. The latest thing I saw was for the product "airborne" (supposed to help cure / prevent the common cold). In some of the ads, the makers of airborne claimed that a double-blind study proved their claims. When the investigators went to check out the address of where the "study" took place, it turned out to be a private residence......just some dude's house! Airborne is getting binged for something like 20 million dollars, and they have to restructure what they say the product can do. Look for most shady products to go this route. There will be heavy insinuation, but they won't directly say "Product Z will do / cure this". On a totally unrelated note, Skittles has the best commercials ever. I think their ad guys stay up late smoking pot and getting their ideas.

Emberassed to Ask.. Sci-Fi/War People Please!

Great story. Matheson is a genius. But nope.......nothing like that in the dusty halls of history (I almost said annals....heehee). Have you ever noticed that a LOT of Matheson's stories revolve around the theme of contagion / alienation?

Hi everybody. I'm inspired by everybody's weight loss so far. Y'all seem to be doing great, from my point of view. As for me, all goes well. My appetite is coming back. Food is starting to smell good, and I'm looking forward to eating real food. I'm down about 35 lbs (counting from pre-diet). I go back to see Hekier this Friday, so he can check out the incisions, I assume. It'd be waaaay too early for a fill, right? I read on here somewhere the first fill is usually somewhere between 1-2 months. Is that how it went for y'all?

    Location

I'm very close to Texarkana, Texas. I was banded recently, on Feb. 22nd. So far, I'm down 33 lbs, counting pre-op diet.

Ok ladies (I don't think I see many "guys" here), I got banded Friday. Very little pain, per se, but the gas pressure was very uncomfortable until post-op day 3. I know that I'll be on liquids for 2-3 more weeks, but honestly it's been a bit of a challenge for me to take in what I should. I seem to have zero appetite (I know it's still pretty early in the process). How far in did it take for y'all to get your appetite back?

    First LB blog

I'm officially on the short-time countdown 'till I get banded. 3 days. Until then, I'm on the pre-op diet, and it's been difficult. I had underestimated the social role that eating played for me, until I could not eat. I find that I miss it. I mean, REALLY miss it. I think things will be better once I do get banded and can eventually eat solid foods. At least then I'll be able to accompany friends and family out to eat / talk (even if I do all the talking and they do all the eating) and not be so alienated. Until now, my relationship with food has been love/ hate. Perhaps this procedure will remove some of the dysfunction out of my eating. I'm determined to do this thing the right way, and eat healthy once I get banded. My plan is for me to take care of the eating healthy part, and for the band to take care of the portion control part. So, I think that's enough rambling for now. I actually just now stumbled onto the blogging capablities of this website, and thought I'd test it out. Will there be more blogs? We shall see.

Hello everybody. I'm very new to the board. Betty called me Monday with the news that I had been approved for the band, so I actually start my pre-op diet Tuesday (uh, today......I work nights). My band is scheduled for Feb. 22nd. Have a great day.
