I was on the same, very conservative diet, Bass. I didn't mean to imply I could eat anything like that out of the gate. It was about 6 weeks before I was up to real food.

I kind of get McCain's answer, Wheet. Sure, he chose an absurdist style to make his point, but I think his point is this: Income is not strictly a numbers game. $150,000 for a family living in Manhattan is not the same as $150,000 for a family living in Texarkana. By the $150,000 mark, I guess I'm damn near scraping poverty level!!! BTW, I also *heart* the idea of a flat tax.

Well, yes and no. The law is that everybody that comes into an ER has to be evaluated. Treatment is not mandatory for non life-threatening situations (a woman going into labor is the exception). But otherwise, yes. I see it all the time. My hospital's ER is constantly deluged by emergencies such as nausea, cough, foot pain, etc. We had to, by necessity, institute some strategies to control the flow of humanity.

I can't tell you how proud I am to be living in a state that is at the forefront of bacon-related research!!

How is this greed? This is capitalism, and it's what our economy is based on. Let me ask you a question.....Where would you cap income tax on the rich? 50%? 60%? 90%? Where? Commendable. And it is a shame that anybody serving their country should have to live like that. That should totally be fixed. I don't think either candidate has addressed this issue, unless you count Obama's promises to deeply cut back on the military, basically firing all these soldiers. Uh, nobody here wants to turn out people truly in need. We both agree that the system needs to be overhauled. Did you know that the disaster of Katrina exposed that much of the city of New Orleans were 3rd generation welfare recipients? Grandpa, then dad, then current person. Guess where the child and grandchild are headed? Both candidates agree that the welfare system is flawed.....McCain wants to reform it within the current framework, Obama wants to throw more government at it. And McCain is on record as saying that he thinks less kids need to go to college? College needs to be more financially available to the lower and middle income familes. High end kids have their share of college troubles, but being able to afford the tuition is usually not one of them. On this we agree. Nope. McCain wants to give everybody a $5000 tax credit to be used towards insurance. This credit would apply even if you already recieve insurance from an employer. That sounds better than Obama's plan: universal health care paid for by taxpayers. What could possibly go wrong if the government were in charge of healthcare, right?

If you're really desperate, Docs usually approve the antihistimine - type sleep meds (but, IMO, they suck.....they tend to stay in your system around 4X longer than Ambien / Lunesta) for preggos. Unfortunately, when you're pregnant, a hormonal war is being fought within your body....and that usually translates to trouble sleeping (and I haven't even dipped into the physical uncomforts that come with the latter months of pregnancy). So......good luck with that.

Only tangentally....little bit of wind, little bit of rain. We lost power for about 14 hrs, but didn't lose any trees at my place. I can say that we were only minimally affected. Nowhere near the level that Glouc had to endure.

A lot of people have chronic insomnia. I would ask you, D, do you have more trouble falling asleep, more trouble staying asleep, or have trouble with both equally? Reasons for chronic insomnia (just off the top of my head): stress, hormonal stuffage (I know from recent posts that you have both of those), sleep breathing disorders (the most common problem I see in my lab), restless leg disorder (2nd most common prob I see) some cardiac problems.....the list can go on and on. The big question: if you take your Ambien (10 mg, I assume), are you getting satisfactory sleep? I won't even inquire about the restoril....I don't like that stuff. PS- I'm not a doc so any advice I give is worth exactly what you paid for it....:thumbup:

Hey, you posed the question.....then you get all angry when I tell you the answer. You may not agree with what I said, but I think enough Americans do that this race has become close. BTW, the excerpt from that CBS pretty much summed up what I typed. You took it out of context. So either you didn't read the whole thing, or else you were purposely trying to misquote....I gave you the benefit of the doubt. The way "fundamentals" refers to people is that without workers, we'd have nobody to produce goods or services. Does that clear things up?

I was too scared. Any solid food that you eat could potentially cause the stomach muscle contractions that go along with digestion. Placing the band is a delicate enough procedure that I didn't want to stack the odds (even if only a little) against successful band placement. Wow. I just checked the date on the start of this thread. That'll learn me to reply to "new" posts.....

I can eat all those things. I just have to take tiny bites and eat very slowly....but like you said, everybody is different. Also, remember that the fundamentals haven't changed: You have to take in less calories than you burn or you won't lose weight.....but you already know that and have stated as much. You sound like a smart guy, Tim. I know you'll continue to keep kicking ass with the weight loss. Good luck!
