Hi fellow Iowans! I just read this entire thread to get to know you all
I'm in Burlington - I'm in the wee early stages of this journey. I've submitted my questionnaire to U of I and am waiting back to be approved for a consultation. I've struggled with my weight ever since having my son 13 years ago. Been on/off WW umpteen times. Lost and gained the same 20 lbs over and over and gained some more. My relationship with food is definitely love/hate.
I'm 34yo. 5'1" and 229 right now. BMI of 43.
I'm worried they won't see me for some reason. I have had issues for the last 2 years that - in hindsight - can be majorly attributed to my weight. Not sure if it will be enough for me to get approved for consultation, though? I have no idea what to expect. I just know - I need help. I need accountability. I can do this - but the thought of doing it on my own is just daunting.
Mindi - so happy you got approved and can't wait to hear about your success.
Lucky, Fran, and Siri - I love how y'all do not sugar coat this. Sounds like it is what we make it, in a way, too.

Lord i wish there was spell check...looks like my 7 year old wrote this mess!!

Oh mindi that is brutal!!! Mine was like luckygrls...only 2 days of liquids. Stock up on all your favorites and steel yourself against the head hunger. I wont lie it will be rough but worth it. One thing that helpes me post op was I made a list of all the things I could do onstead of eat and picked one everytime i was dealing with head hunger. This way u dont habe to think ul something....just pick from the list. Good luck and we are here if you need encouragement!!!

Congrats Lucky!!! So happy for you! That is awesome!!!! I don't go to Y I plan on doing some Zumba classes though lol I think that will be fun. Keep up the good work!

He is with Iowa weight loss specialists, located on West Des Moines and Belmond. He does surgery only in Belmond though. Great place, great person, I'm scheduled for the 21st and they let you stay in the hospital the night before surgery just to ease your mind. I'm excited. Congrats Lucky!!! I chose to work out at home due to schedule conflicts. Sometimes i workout at 9 pm if thats what i have to do. I am concentrating on resistence bands more than anything. Then i walk as much as i can on the days that I can. Down 55 pounds in 3 months!!! Still staying below 50 carbs daily and getting 80 grams Protein in...with 100 oz of Water daily!!! I have so much energy its unbelievable. Hope everyone else is doing great and having a wonderful weekend.

Luckgrl, I am in Des Moines. I had Cahalan. I too use MyFitnessPal to keep track of my Water and food. I also bought a Fitbit. The Fitbit and MyFitnessPal talk to each other which is nice.

Nana, you can get one from your dietician. I have a hard time remembering to journal. I've done some on myfitnesspal on my phone and I bought one too. Try to figure out what works best for you and start the habit now. I don't even write in the calories, Protein, etc. I'm just doing the food and amount I ate. And keeping track of Water too.

Lucky do they give you a journal to keep track of your intake or do they recommend one? I wonder how the BariatricPal is?

I set a timer to remind me to take a sip of Water every two minutes. I also got up to walk often. Do what you can and don't be afraid to ask for anti nausea meds when you need them. I will be cheering for you!

Everything is great! I haven't had any issues at all. Right now I am really craving real food instead of liquids. Other than that things are good

Lucky I'm so glad you are feeling better! Congrats on the 2lb loss! That's great. I know my sister started walking after her surgery she never was a walker but she swears that helped the lbs come off. Hope you continue to feel good and keep losing. I'll keep you posted on my info.
