  1. Ultimately, it's not the sleeves job to do it for you. It's yours.

The people who never realize that are the ones who will never get to goal or do and gain most or all of it back. Simple as that.

Never did I say that the sleeve was to do "my job" but thanks for your enlighten comment... Again... My post was about not feeling restrictions that I used to have before yesterday. The end.

  2. I am aware this is a hot topic..

My surgeon discourages drinking diet pop but I personally enjoy diet pop.. I've never found it a "slider" food for me on any previous diets.

And I know several surgeons DO say it's okay..

I've heard that surgeons say drinking diet pop will stretch your sleeve. I have a feeling this is a scare tactic either because a lot of docs just don't support diet pop and the artificial sweeteners that are in them or are worried about them being "slider foods" so they just say "Oh it'll stretch your sleeve" If it would really stretch your sleeve wouldn't all surgeons be united in agreeing that diet pop is bad?

I'm basically wanting to hear from people whose surgeons DO agree with diet pop so I can get another opinion on the matter. Why have your surgeons said it's okay.. what do they say to the "it'll stretch your stomach" (myth?) What guidelines do your surgeons give about drinking it.

And also how soon after your surgery did you try diet pop for the first time?

NOTE: If you don't agree with my decision to potentially go against what my surgeon suggests please don't lecture me.. I'm well aware and on most things I follow the rules.. but I'm also smart enough to know that if some surgeons allow it there is a reason and I want to find out and have second opinions and I don't feel that's wrong. I've encountered a lot of hostility here toward people who dare to question what their surgeons say so if you don't agree please just ignore this post. THANK YOU.

Believe me! I get your precipitation on asking advice or opinion on anything here. There's a lot of douchi people on this forum that just seem to be around just to be douchi! If you can't give any positive or encouraging advice then just shut up! That's the best advice you can give to someone who's going through a rough time or just a rough day.

As to your question... I never drank soda pop or carbonating drinks before surgery so I have no advice to give you Good luck and I hope you reach you goal soon!

  3. I had my surgery on April 13, 2016. I lost my first 19 two weeks out. In the last 2 weeks I've only lost about 5 pounds and I am freaking out. I'm back to work half days because I'm a mail carrier and my job is very active. I'm back at the gym 5 days a week. Only eating mushy foods abd liquids still. I get all of my Protein most days and all of my Water and then some. I know it's normal and that 2-3 pounds a week is still a great accomplishment considering I couldn't lose an ounce no matter how hard I tried before surgery. But I'm so scared that once I'm actually able to eat a little more, that my weight loss will stop! I think my body is broken. I get soooooo much exercise with my job that I think my metabolism is screwed up so bad that I simply will never get to that magical place we all want to go called Onederland!! My heaviest weight was 295, pre op weight was 265, current weight 240. I get so frustrated that I'm just gonna stay in the 240's, I cry and cry! I'm more depressed now than I was at 295 as crazy as that sounds. I'm so afraid that I'm just gonna stop eating all together. I'm going away for the 4th of July weekend and I wanted to be down at least 50 pounds by then. I'm going on a romantic vacation for my 5 year wedding anniversary in September/ October and I really want to reach Onederland by then. I'm going to support groups and talking to my nutritionist and she says I'm doing great and I'll get there but I know my body and my sucky metabolism!!!!!

What kind of workouts do you do at the gym? 5 days a week?!

  4. I was sleeved April 7 th so almost as long as you. You are doing amazing. I am still preferring to eat puree foods. I cringe at the thought of a nacho in my throat. If you ate 850 calories that sure is not cheating. I am averaging 800-850 a day and I am doing 3 Protein shakes a day usually 2 meals of 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or pureed chilli. Testing your new sleeve seems normal to me. I probably will too once I am feeling as well as you. Just don't make it a habit.

I cringed on the thought eating nachos and chocolate too! My point was that I didn't think I could eat this things or at least so soon. Not sure why I felt like testing my sleeve, but I did and now I'm moving on. Lol!

  5. I got sleeved 46 days ago and I've lost 27lbs. I'm super happy! BUT... I can feel an obsession over weighing myself everyday, over analyzing My Fitness Pal and testing my sleeve.

Today, for the first time since my surgery, I was able to eat without feeling restriction and I panicked! I went to the movies with my daughter and had a small amount of chocolate raisins. I ate them and expected my sleeve to react, but nothing happened! I had 5 small pieces of nachos, but nothing happened! And then I came home and ate 3 pieces of left over sushi (with rice) and nothing happened!

I ate under 850 calories today (which I don't think is a lot), but I'm eating things that I never thought I would be able to eat. I'm feeling hungry more now than ever and I'm not sure what I'm trying to say here... Only that I feel like I cheated when I thought it was impossible to do so and I panicked. That's all

  6. My acid reflux got so much worse with the sleeve. If I miss a dose of Nexium I end up in the ER. As soon as I have enough money I am getting revision surgery to a bypass. This is suppose to

improve or eliminate the acid. Have you been seen by a GI doctor? Mine said the sleeve was

causing my problem and keep taking the medicine. The only think about that is I just heard long

term use of those type medicines can cause kidney disease. You need to get seen, erosion is

    serious.

I've never had acid reflux before until I had the sleeve done. I'm 3 weeks out and I've been having really bad heartburn/acid reflux. I want to avoid any serious complications and I DEFINITELY want to avoid having another revision and now for the bypass. The sleeve is as far as I go.

I'm hoping it doesn't get to that point:-)

  7. @@carolina07

I too have the band and I am revising to sleeve tomorrow. But I am so paranoid if this is the right thing for me. I had so many issues with the band that it scares me to get the sleeve its permanent. Can you please give me details as far as what you felt and comparison? Thank you

Both are very different and my experience might be different than yours, BUT the restriction feeling is different. With the sleeve, I feel restriction, but without the need of running to the bathroom and throwing up. I'm in the purée/mushy foods so I'm still learning the diet process with the sleeve.

In regards to the band, it should be band! I'm surprise there's still surgeons doing that procedure.

  8. First time posting here, but I've been lurking for awhile.

I'm self-pay and scheduled with Dr. Illan in Mexico for May 12.

Feeling very calm and not nervous about the surgery itself...but I worry that I'll be the one this doesn't work for. Has anyone else felt that way??

About me 5'2", 47 years old, 295 pounds. I've been overweight since I was maybe 10 or so. Childhood pictures show a normal-sized child, but I don't remember not being fat. I was over 200 in high school, probably 250 or so before/after my two pregnancies, and been 275-295 for the last 15-20 years. That's were my weight seems to want to be; on the one hand, I can pretty much eat whatever, and I don't go up anymore; but on the other hand, it's pretty impossible to lose anything, and it always resettles in the 275-295 range.

I've been a vegan/vegetarian for over 10 years (first 5 vegan, now vegetarian). Before that I did Atkins and lost 80 pounds (but was also pretty much starving myself...it was Atkins in name only). Since then, I've done WW, superfood diets, blah blah blah. You know the drill.

I have Hashimoto's, which I'm sure plays a role in all this (I was diagnosed at hypothyroid about 16 years ago, and Hashi's about 5 years ago). I am treated properly for my thyroid and it is technically right where it should be.

I'm excited about having the sleeve because I feel like, from everything I've read, this will be the tool that gets me where I want to be. I love to eat healthy foods (though I eat bad ones, too, for sure), and wish I could be more active without the pain, so in theory this should all work for me.

But...I can't picture it. I don't know what it's like to be a healthy weight. What if my body can't do that, no matter how hard I try (so far it hasn't, afterall!). I feel like this is my last chance, so what if it doesn't work? These are my worries :/ I'll be the one it doesn't work for...

My goals are really just to be healthier, to avoid diabetes (I'm pre-diabetic now) and heart disease, to be able to go backpacking and walking and do all the things I want to do. I have a vague idea that I'll be able to fit into smaller clothes, and that would be fun (I've never in my life bought something that was actually cool or fun to wear or fashionable). I hope to lose a lot of weight, and I'm 100% willing to do the work. But....I've done the work before and been frustrated when nothing happens. So that is my worry and my fear.

Has anyone else ever felt that way? Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my rambles...

Yes! I was mortified that the sleeve wouldn't or won't work because I had the lap band done and that was a nightmare!

I'm two weeks post-op and it's been a challenge, but I've seen a HUGE difference between the lap band and the sleeve! You will feel restriction in a way that you can't eat more food even if you wanted to, but you're not running to the ER every time (at least that was my experience with the lap band).

I'm not weighing myself either because that would drive me nuts! I'm only doing it once a month. It's forcing me to make better choices and be very aware what goes in my mouth

  9. I really, really, really hate counting calories! I've tried it before and it's just not for me. I don't like documenting what I eat or using My Fitness Pal because it gets to overwhelming and stressful at times. The one diet that worked for me in the past was a high Protein diet (kinda like the Atkins) and very low carbs. NO CALORIE COUNTING! I got sleeved 11 days ago and I'm trying to plan accordingly for when I'm ready to eat solids.

My question is... Has anyone tried something different, other than calorie counting and writing everything you eat, that works? I'm also planning to work out 5 days a week once I heal 100%.

I have NEVER measured food or counted calories since having WLS. I've never even seen a food tracking app like MFP. I felt the same way as you. If I wanted to do all that tracking I would have saved my money and just stayed on weight watchers or some other fad diet.

The only numbers I ever bothered with was getting 60-80g of Protein and at least 64oz of Water. I can keep a running tally of those in my head. I've basically just been a mindful eater. Protein and veggies first. Moderate fruit and whole grains. "white carbs" in low, infrequent doses, and only after I reached goal. I read labels to help make good choices. I don't count carbs and calories but I am aware of them.

I counted calories for a couple days when I was 3 months, 6 months and a year out just out of curiosity. But since passing goal and maintaining for over a year and a half I haven't bothered. I've never had a single clue what my carb or fat intake has been.

So yes, it is possible to do it without all the tracking.

My feelings exactly! Thank you for sharing

  10. I don't count calories daily...

    Not really anyway...

I do it once a week...

I load a day's worth of data into MFP, check all the appropriate info, then eat the same each day for five days (M-F)..

The reality of my 'diet' may vary by 100cal or so a day on occasion but the system works for me...

The idea of logging every day does my head in...

Of course, it can be tricky if there's a morning tea on at work or something...

But everyone there situation so it's rarely a problem...

My thought is that you've gotta do what works for you...

But do so in conjunction with your doctor...

My doctor and the majority of the doctors that I've talked to are calorie focus. Which is fine and I understand that is what works for most of their patients. For me, calorie counting and writing everything I eat is a nightmare! It stresses me out so I was curious to see if anyone had a different diet focus that worked for them and gave them the same results or better results. A high Protein diet (Atkins) worked for me in the past, but I wasn't sure if anyone one had tried his approach after having the sleeve done.

I'm not a fan of sugar-free products either. I like to eat real foods with no chemicals or ingredients that I can't pronounce I'm opting for an organic, free range, grass fed meats and stay away from chemicals as much as possible.

  11. I work in the medical field and did research and asked my colleagues. When you are approved start weight training, thats actually in my info that I got with the program. But Ive seen they recommend at leasr 3-6 months post-op before starting. Then a nurse I know who lost a significant amount of weight recommended cocoa butter. Its not a cure all but it helps especially your inner thighs, abdomen and arms. They said to make sure to use it everyday and to "learn to pamper yourself".

  13. It should be on the top of witch ever forum you go in.. Like right now I'm reading your post I have the search option on the top! I have an iPhone but it should be the same app for all!

I have an IPhone too and I'm entering the topics that I've seen on my timeline and it says "0 post". For example; I'm looking for the subject on hair loss and it doesn't pop up! Even thou, I've seen this post before. Strange

  14. I'm flat out lying. Honestly. Here's my story. Hypnosis and a little acupuncture. . I'm dead serious. I can sell it. I told my office friends that I had a hiatal hernia repair (which is true) and the doc lectured me about losing weight. So I'm looking for a new approach since dieting never worked. Even found a local hypnosis center who does weight loss to sell it
