I'm 7 weeks post op and often still lack interest in eating. For a few weeks (2-5 weeks post op) I felt like eating was a chore. I'm literally eating to survive, and that's kind of how it should be. Now I feel hungry once in awhile and it's nice to know I'm still human. You'll start feeling your new normal soon.

    Not unusual at all.
But you still have to get all your nutrition in that your surgeon's team says you need. That means (at this stage) Protein. So sip or slurp it down.
Also, don't worry that this is a permanent condition. It isn't. You're going to go through so many changes in the next year. This is only one of the early ones.

I was sleeved Jan 12th and I still have no appetite. I have a shake in the morning and one at night to make sure I get my Protein in. I "snack" on Proteins throughout the day. (Eggs, cheese ex)

It is not weird but you need to be getting your Protein in (shakes or otherwise) whether you want to eat or not. That is crucial.

I was sleeved on 3/10 and have no appetitie. I eat because I know I must - I have a calorie and Protein goal to meet. I know I need more than liquids, so I am branching out into new foods, one every day or so.
If you are only taking liquids, how are you meeting your Protein and nutrient goals?

    Welcome to "The Losers' Bench".
If you have concerns --about anything really, contact your bariatric team. They will be able to guide you best so early in your journey.
My guess is that you might just be a wee bit intimidated by "real" food---afraid to start eating again? It's only my guess.
Oh, maybe you're sleeve isn't ready for pureed food yet.
I'm 5years out and I still don't get "hungry". If I'm out and about I set my cell phone's alarm to remind me to eat.
So, friend, please give your "team" a call and by all means come back and tell us what they said.
You got this! One bite at a time.

Not having an appetite is normal. You really should be at least doing the Protein shakes to make sure you are getting enough Protein. Follow your post-of diet info.

I didn't have an appetite for months. I had to look at food and my shakes as fuel for my body. Sometimes even smelling food would gross me out.
Just make sure even if you don't have an appetite you stay hydrated and try and get your Protein in.
Unfortunately, for most of us the appetite comes back

I had my surgery in December which means I was on liquid preop and postop through 3 holiday parties, two birthday parties, a funeral, Christmas dinner at grandma's and New Year's Eve. Got through all of them drinking Protein shakes, ice Water and sipping broth with Protein Powder. Over two years later that is all a distant memory and a very teeny tiny part of my WLS journey.
Don't get bogged down in the "now". These first few months are nothing compared to the decades you will spend as a healthier, skinnier you.

The ice trick is a clever idea, I must try! I am not getting in all my liquids anyway so it would help with that as well! Thanks for the advice. @@KindaFamiliar

Why? Are you looking for justification?
To answer your question.....No, never. Followed my instructions to a T. If anything, I transitioned through my stages even slower than allowed. I had no desire to put myself at risk for a complication. No food on the planet was worth the risk of hurting myself after spending all that $$$. Didn't matter if I was hungry or craving something or just wanted to have "real" food. Following the plan was just part of the mental commitment I made when I decided to have surgery.

You're going to find a lot of "yeah, I had a cookie 3 days post-op" or "I had three bites of a taco, but was't supposed to"
That is not your license to do the same thing. You need to follow your team's instructions - they know best and have the rules there for a reason.
My surgeon had a progressive meal plan, allowing things like scrambled egg almost immediately (like 1-2 tablespoons of something). When I got home, my local doc wanted me on a liquid diet. You know what I did? I followed my local doc's directions. Did I want food? Heck yeah. But we made a deal when she signed on to support me when I got back from surgery.
You have invested to much in the process - time, money, energy. You've been given a gift, a 2nd chance, if you will. Please don't take that for granted - do the hard work today so tomorrow will be better.

I am 12 days post op and my doctor said I could try to ease soft foods in slowly. I tried a string cheese eating very slowly. I must have bitten off more than I should and I honestly thought I was going to die. I was in severe pain and burning up with nausea. I had to pull over while driving a half hour after and walk around until it passed. I am back to yogurt and shakes for awhile. It definitely made me not want to try anything more so soon.

    Sounds pretty normal to me...
Chances are you're not actually hungry...
    It's likely 'head hunger'...
This is just as bad as real hunger..
What worked for me was to chew some ice cubes...
Because you've not chewed anything, your body assumes that you've not eaten..
Chewing ice cubes tricks the body into thinking you've eaten and at the same time rehydrates, so can be counted in your 'Water intake' for the day...
Of course, I'm not saying it'll work for you...
    But it's worth a crack!!
(Please check with your medical am first... I'm VERY clever but am not a doctor...)
    Good luck!!!

Alas, you've been told one month for soft foods, so that's it. You can ask if there's some wiggle room when you go in for the one-week follow-up, but you may not hear what you'd hope for. People here may have some ideas for varying the liquids (e.g., adding a few drops of complementary extracts), but at least in your early sleeve career, your surgery practice is your prescriber. Alas.

I was pretty depressed in the beginning also, felt like it was never going to end.. But, it did end and I feel pretty good now.. I had a great support system to get through it. My plan was soft foods after couple of weeks, so I didn't have to be in liquids for a month. I just sip sip sipped in my liquid stage. sugar free Jello counted is a liquid for mine.. does it for you?

Hi everyone! I love reading all you guys stories they are very motivating. I had my sleeve on 03/29. I go for my one week check up on tomorrow. I am in depression mode right now because everywhere I turn there's food and I've gotten to the point that I'm actually getting hungry and this full liquid diets makes me not want to look at it anymore. I'm looking forward to at least the soft foods. When can I have something other that liquids is there anything else I can have? My doctor told me soft food in a month but I'm struggling. Is there anything I can have different to make me not so miserable since I can't eat? It's so bad that I am having dreams of eating food!
