OzRoo got a reaction from Dawnie Doo in I need help
I top up my Water with flat diet sprite.
I developed an almost diabolical sugar cravings 2 years ago, as it turned out, my Thyroid was to blame.
I craved anything sweet, mostly chocolate, ice cream, cheese cakes.
I actually lost these cravings post op. First 10 days I had my chocolate Optifast, now 5 weeks post op, I don't even think about it.
I had a couple of teaspoons of ice cream once, and don't need it anymore.
I now love my jelly with custard for desert, like 2 hrs after my "dinner". And I can't finish it ....
    @@biglady904,
I don't know if you are Pre-op right now, or in a later stage.
All I know is that the hormone Ghrelin is massively reduced with Gastric Sleeve op. This hormone is responsible for hunger.
My unhealthy cravings are gone post op.
    Good luck and best wishes.

OzRoo got a reaction from PaulaB72 in Tired of discussing my weight with people
Gosh, some people love to judge, offer unwanted advice, trombone their own opinions .....
    To hell with them.
Opinions are Not facts, and I usually stay clear from super judgemental people as they really annoy me.
"Thank you", "Thanks for sharing", "I do not wish to discuss it", even "so you think you are God?" are some of my answers.
I mainly copped few judgements (not from friends or family) when I had a rapid weight gain due to my thyroid disease.
Such as " OMG, you need to get back to your size, need to go to Gym, need to diet" etc ....
Consequently, I do not see these people anymore.
Now, I look forward to get back to health and slimmer me.
Frankly, this is my business, and if anyone would keep on annoying me, I'd quickly nip it in the bud.
"What you think of me is None of My business", is a title of a book.
I've even said it to some people, and watched their brains doing cartwheels, trying to process it .....

One of the things that keeps me in control now (I'm over a year out from surgery) is reading labels and logging my food daily.
I still have moments of weakness at the grocery store, and when I do, I'll flip over to the nutrition label, and look at the amount of fat, carbs, sodium and sugar in the object I'm craving. It shocks the ever-loving crap out of me, and I put the #@!$ thing back on the shelf.
I am horrified most of the time about the lack of actual nutrition in the things I used to eat regularly. And even more horrified at the amount of awful things (especially the carbs!) they contain. It is absolutely no wonder I got fat eating that stuff. I just ignored the info printed right on the labels.
I know logically I could buy some bad stuff and eat it occasionally, but tend to feel like it's not worth the cost - calorie/carbs/whatever - when there are better alternatives out there with less "damage" to my diet. I have things like dark chocolate that I can eat and be satisfied with one small piece instead of eating 2-3 bars. Or sugar free pudding. Or some grapes with cheese. There are always workarounds that are way better than the total crap foods out there.
Definitely start tracking your food now. I use a program online (and in app form) call Fat Secret. There are many others like Fitness Pal and such, but find something you like and can stick with and just start logging every bite, every sip. Once you see the amount of calories, fat, sodium, carbs you're eating daily... it will shock you. And you'll start wanting to do better now. After surgery, it is essential to track everything that goes in so you know you are getting just enough calories (not too much, not too little) and can make sure your fat and carbs aren't excessive (most WLS people follow a moderate or low carb diet after - at or under 100 grams of carbs/day).

OzRoo reacted to 2goldengirl in 1 day post-op... am I drinking too much?
No, it isn't too much, and you can't stretch your sleeve with liquids - they slide right on through and into your intestines.
Did your surgeon give you a target for fluids each day?

One rock solid post surgical maybe day 2 or 3 due to the anesthesia. Then around day 4 the liquid barium for my leak test and it was atomic. Then after that tiny marbles from so much Protein and dairy. If you are still on opiate pain meds those will keep you stopped up. When you get to purées and soft foods keep some fruit and veggie skin on when you purée and it will give you a little more fiber. Don't fret over poop on this site. Wait till we start talking bout FUPAs.

My post op instructions said to expect not to have a BM for 2-10 days. I wouldn't stress just yet. Your intake has been low and Fluid only. I'm sure you're going to be fine!

My bowels woke up around 7 days PO. It was all liquid. Walking will help wake them up and get things moving. Gas is a sign that they're returning. Just be careful you're getting to the "don't trust a fart" period

I would call it 100 % normal. I was on zofran for three - four weeks post op. Your stomach was just cut in half. It will take about 12 weeks for it to heal. And I was also on phenergan in hospital. Phenergan by iv in hospital was wonderful. By mouth not so much. Zofran makes a tablet that dissolves in liquid. That was the first sip I took every morning. Couldn't stomach anything else without it. Definitely call the doc and set yourself up. I also had a scopolamine patch behind my ear as well. Good luck.

Let me tell you a story.
My husband has almost the EXACT same stats as you. He had RNY (bypass) almost 10 years ago, but he started at 300 pounds.
Fast forward to a year or so after surgery, he was down to 170. He started getting the "you're too skinny!" comments, too. When he mentioned this at his year appointment, this is what his surgeon said:
"There are so many overweight/obese people these days, nobody even knows what a "normal" weight looks like anymore".

Put on your most mischievous facial expression -- the one worn by older siblings teasing the younger kids in the family -- and tell people that your weight is in magnificent proportion to your height and they're thinking you're too skinny is probably because they've been gaining weight.

Is it odd that were never really comfortable with attention?

During the losing process, we remove or restrict ourselves from social situations for reasons which, either directly or indirectly, involve some kind of discomfort based on people's reactions t'ward, and interactions with, us...
Upon completion if the process**, it seems that to some degree, we continue to remove or restrict ourselves from social.... well, you get where In going with that...
    So...
    What's the answer?
Surely we didn't do all this work just to end up healthier, lighter and fitter, but still hermitting ourselves away?
It seems like a whole lot of trouble to go to in order to remain as f**kd up as we ever were, but to live longer!!
What about therapy? Well it help?
    Support groups?
Maybe develop a brand new arse-kicking personality...
I only ask these questions because I'm genuinely curious...
You see, in 13 months out, 70ish% of my way to 'goal' and am not having any issues that are even remotely similar...
Yes, the pre-op issues are pretty generic and stock standard...
But from there on, my experiences, or my reaction to them, is completely diffetent...
I've made it quite clear to anyone and everyone exactly where I'm at, how I'm doing, what's great, what sux...
    The whole lot...
Only if they ask of course...
I don't care how many people ask me how much I've lost or joke about my lunch or ask what I'm drinking (F****NG SHAKES) .
I don't care that people stare at me now...
I don't care that the talk about me behind my back..
    I just don't care..
    Why??
Because I'm doing a f***ing fantastic job of saving my own life!!!
I was a pretty damn good human being before I started losing weight...
Now, at 230+ pounds down, I'm an even better person than I was before...
    And you know what???
    I'M NOT DONE YET!!!!
So I say ask me your inane, repetitive questions...
Stare at the (still) fat dude sweating and grunting as he lifts weights at the gym...
Deride the tiny plate of fish that he's having for lunch...
Because ultimately, your opinion matters not a pinch..
    Why?
    Because I am me...
And not only do I like me - I am proud of me!!!
Sincere apologies if I've gone off track, missed the point of the thread or make no sense at all...
This all just came out and I couldn't stop it...
**This part is an assumption based on hearsay and anecdotal evidence..
I am not yet at this part of the process...

Very interesting. Thank you. The article refers to protein/calorie calculations from, "The fitness world". Now I know where your numbers are coming from.
Very interesting to see how, "the fitness world" and "the medical world" differ on such things.
Thank you for posting the article.

Depending on your size too many grams could burn out ur kidneys. 150 or 250 sounds like quite a bit but best to go with what your Dr recommended, because larger people may need more. Also you want to spare muscle mass and lose fat so you may need more Protein.< /p>

Yes, at the vey least it will stall your weight loss. If you don't get enough Protein your body will consume itself (muscles and organs like your heart).
We need Protein to keep our metabolisms running, to build and repair muscle, skin, hair, etc.

Wow! That's surprising. I'm not saying it's wrong by any means. I'm just surprised.
So, if one's goal weight is 250, their Protein intake should be 250g? Wow! I guess it just goes to illustrate just how different all of the WLS programs are.

I could not take capsules till my 9th week. If your "supplements" are your Vitamins though you cannot wait that long and need to cough up the cash to get liquid vitamins and/or chewables. Bariatric Advantage has a good selection of chewables. Good luck !

Call your bariatric team. Headaches are no fun, and nothing to play with.
Dehydration, High/low Blood Pressure, medication imbalance all can cause headache. Even an increase/decrease in weather fronts coming and going can cause a head ache as can stress, excitement and depression.
Just a thought: have you given up caffeine? Caffeine withdrawal can cause horrible headaches.
So many possibilities---so many of us nonmedical friends giving you our opinion.
Really, friend, call your doctor. Please.

Please see your doctor if your blood pressure is not stable. For most patients, blood pressure will drop after surgery which either clears up issues or cause one to have to take less medicine. Hunger can cause headaches but high blood pressure can as well.

if you start to fall (gain weight)
there is always something you could wear!
NOT the way to think about things
I DO suggest YOU keep one big article of clothing

a magnet had been placed in my body years ago

i took the pair to the changing room
put in on over my size 6 jeans
i stared at myself, tearing STRONGLY
    this is a good/bad memory i won't forget
after a few minutes i bought the jeans
they sit in the back of my closet
