my fitness pal
I saw my NUT (Dietician today), Told her re : MyFitnessPal She said that she had to work out the numbers and percentages for few of her bariatric clients. So here are My adjusted measures for me at MyFitnessPal. So for me these are the recommended Daily measures: 1. 800 calories 2. Protein 40%, which is 60-70 g 3. Carbs 35% 4. Fats 25% Now, for the shock of hers ideal weight goal for me ...... 68kg! Up to 74kg with the sleeve ..... OMG!!! I am willing at this stage to downgrade my goal of 60kg to 65kg. I will adjust my weight ticker to 65 kg. Grrrrrrr ......

my fitness pal
@@mariab3 Great advice! Thank you. I discovered this too (just a while ago), and now I am reading your post re customising under Goals I changed my calories, and also had to change my Protein, Carbs and Fat percentages, as under my New calorie goal, the automatic readings for Proteins, etc were not right for me at this stage. So, it can be fixed!

Thyroid
Yes, I was like that too prior my surgery date. Was worried if my blood tests would get better. Good luck for tomorrow, @@sbdooly73 Fingers crossed.

Thyroid
@@sbdooly73 When I was Hyper thyroid last year, my surgeon told me that it was too dangerous for me to be operated on, due to the thyroid storm possibility. I worked with his team Endo ever since then (July 2015) He told me to come back once my thyroid stabilised. When I saw him in January 2016, I was severe Hypo then, and he wanted to wait longer, as hypo thyroid that is not stabilised can make the recovery from WLS lot harder. After 2 months of Thyroxine meds (Levo thyroxine), My labs were finally good, stable, Hallelujah !!! So, was finally operated on March 8th 2016 I can't see a reason why you may be denied surgery, unless your blood tests show big differences in your levels. Are you on thyroid medication? OK, just saw your reply re thyroid med. I wonder if your med needs to be adjusted. I still have my now 6 weekly blood tests to monitor my levels Good luck!

Can you count the water in the protein shakes towards the water goal?
I struggle now to get 8 glasses of Water (not a problem prior WLS). I have a 700 ml water Sipping flask/container, and I measure my water intake with this. I also count my diluted juices, decaf coffee, herbal tea towards my Fluid intake. So, I do get my quota of liquids all up. With all the restrictions, sipping, no fluids 30 mins before and after meals, it is impossible for me to get the standard 8 glasses of water in. I was dehydrated only once, about 10 days post op. Hasn't happened since.

Thyroid
I have Graves disease. I had my thyroid destroyed via Radioactive tx, been Hypo thyroid since Dec 2015. On Thyroxine since January 2016. My surgery had to be postponed when I was hyper thyroid. Since March 2016 (WLS) I lost total of 9 kg ( approx. 20 pounds), Seems slow loss, however I did hit the stall couple of weeks ago. It is normal though,to have stalls, even though they can be frustrating ..... I am interested in thyroid disease weight loss, also. I had couple of mini binges recently, emotional/head cravings, chocolate made me ill, so had some ice-cream and extra Proteins late at night. I only started gentle exercises 2 weeks ago.

Newbie and BM question after 9 days of DS
@@stephen643 In my case, I only had the runs once, while still in the hospital, after a Barium Meal Leak Test. Otherwise, constipation rules during my different food phases. I have found a helpful way of dealing with it. If this was happening to me on a regular basis (diarrhoea), I'd be calling my Surgeon ASAP. Dehydration is a big concern, and even though I did not have the runs, I got very dehydrated once with nasty and scary symptoms. Another cause could be some food intolerances, or even a stomach bug. So, please call your surgical team and get some relief. Good luck.

Newbie and 9 days post op question
I am actually opposite to your experience. I only had the runs after my Barium Meal Leak test, in the hospital. Constipated since, but I got it under control. With diarrhoea, you need to watch out for Dehydration! Please call your surgeon or his team about your issue. Also, what type of surgery did you have ? Gastric Sleeve, Bypass .... ? Good luck.

What Is the Biggest Mistake You Made?
My Biggest Mistakes so far: 1. Dehydration ..... early on post op, 10 days or so .... I thought I was going into shock ..... very nasty and scary experience. Happened in my car, on my way to an appointment. Luckily, only 5 minute drive on small roads, I was ready to pull over ... I felt dizzy, faint, cold and clammy, unwell. I was told I looked pale/grey ready to collapse, when I walked into my apt. Was given a glass of Hydralite, got well within 10-15 minutes This made me lot more conscious re my Water and Fluid intake 2. Acid Reflux ..... Terrible attack after straying off my prescribed diet, 3-4 weeks post op. Yes, I caved in, it was emotional (frustrated with my very first weight loss stall), I decided to "reward" myself with 1/2 of a chocolate Bunny (it was after Easter), together with a large serve of ice-cream ..... late at night ... Bad Idea !!! I woke up at 4 am, choking on and coughing up copious amounts of stinging yellow bile .... I was so worried that I may have aspirated some of this bile/acid .... These 2 above episodes scared me so much, that I think I needed to be shaken up hard, to pay more attention to my post op instructions and to my body. Even on my daily PPI, this Acid/Bile attack was so violent that it is unforgettable. These are my mistakes during my 6 weeks post Gastric Sleeve op.

I Am Thankful For My Stall
I am grateful for my stall as it made me friends with MyFitnessPal. I can now see exactly how much Protein I had, how much Sugar, how many Carbs etc, each day. How often I exercise, and do I stick to my goal re exercising How much Water I really drank ..... Gosh, there are so many Hidden Sugars !!! I knew about them, but never really looked into this, until now .... So, I am grateful

my 3 week stall is annoying me
@@trishrnyoung I just got through mine, and yes it was frustrating. I got out of it, with just under a kilo loss. For me this time, it lasted 2 weeks. I refused to weigh myself, and at the end, when I finally weighed myself, I actually lost a bit! I can only share what I was advised to do by my NUT and what I did differently during that stage: 1. To increase my Proteins with a high Protein powder mixed in my yoghurt or purees 2. To temporarily have 1/2 cup of only protein food 3. To drink more Water 4. To add Benefibre to my drinks 5. To use Osmolax as needed Yes, constipation got worse for me, hence Osmolax worked well for me. I too went for up to 10 days without BM, mainly during the liquid only phase. Now, I got it again due to increased proteins. Started using small amounts of Osmolax powder again. This gentle formula really helps me. I educated myself on the Stalls, both here, the web and Youtube. Now I know it is a normal and necessary phase to go through. I know now that there will be more to come. I've learnt that this is the time my body re-adjusts, and so be it.

Hungry
I used to add Vaalia plain, natural low fat yoghurt to my Soups, and to tomato juice/V8. Stirred it really well, either in Nutri Bullet or with a fork. Had to ease off tomato/V8 though as it gave me bad acid reflux. I also was advised to add extra Protein powder to my liquids. Somehow it helped, as that stage went quickly for me, thank goodness ..... Good luck @@staceyatw3 PS. In my nutritional post op instructions, it states that if I get really hungry, it may also suggest a quicker move onto the next stage. I managed the liquid stage for 2 weeks, by adding stuff I mentioned above ....

March 1st Scheduled
Hi March Sleevers 2016, I finally had my Sleeve done on March 8th 2016. Had to wait 8 months for it, as my surgeon and his team found out in July 2015 that I had Graves Disease (Hyper thyroid), so I had to stabilise my thyroid first ..... I had rapid weight gain between 2014 and February 2016 of 41 kg ( 90.2 pounds ) ! Awful time in my life. I was so disappointed that I had to have a long delay, but it had to be done. My surgeon was very concerned re possible thyroid storm doing the op, that possibly could be fatal ..... Anyway, it is great to connect with March 2016 Sleevers. I am in my 6th week post op, and had my first stall, still on soft foods at this stage, and keep going slowly forward. Best wishes to everyone

I Am Thankful For My Stall

@@Lisa_85, yes, thank you. I needed to be reminded of that- I Am Thankful For My Stall
I am grateful for my very first stall (post 3 weeks), as it made me educate myself more on the WLS journey and process. I am grateful for @@Inner Surfer Girl support and showing me new boards on this huge site. I am grateful for the long term members sharing their experiences and support. @@Inner Surfer Girl Thank you for starting this fantastic thread. Your very first post on the topic is priceless !!! Thank you for steering me here, for support. Also, I too wish This Thread would become a STICKY! And thank you everyone who posted here. So helpful and full of great info and suggestions.- My stall
I will check the Embrace the Stall, thank you @@Inner Surfer Girl This is why I don't weigh myself every day, sometimes not every week either. Yes, it is frustrating @@tony031469 Goodluck to us all, and I will now, with baby steps Embrace the Stall ......- My stall
After the initial weight loss post op, I experienced the first stall. I think it started in week 3, so for 2 weeks plus, there was nothing. I didn't gain any weight, and I didn't lose any weight. I actually refused to step on my scales, as my look in the mirror showed me no change. During the past 2 weeks I was able to do some exercise, mainly some walking and dancing (at home ) I was also getting very hungry (puree and then soft food phase). Was told by NUT to increase my Proteins. Still was hungry ... ! Every 2 hours or so ... I also had a couple of bad days, physically and emotionally. I caved in and had some chocolate and ice-cream, and I paid for it by an attack of horrible Acid Reflux. Did not exercise for few days, slept badly. Today, I finally had the courage to weigh myself ...... And, I lost some weight, YAY! OK, little loss, from 93.1 kg to 92.5 kg ..... however I haven't gained, thank goodness ! I have been reading up on stall information, and watching YouTube videos on WLS, stalls, weight issues post op, etc Found some fantastic videos from Dr. Matthew Weiner, and I have saved many of them. So, slow but steady ..... Who else has experienced Weight Stalls post surgery? I know these stalls can keep happening, so I am interested in hearing from others, whether recent or past Stalls. Thank you. PS. I am stepping up my proteins, and lowering carbs for now, as per my NUT's instructions.- Nausea
Fair enough. Good luck with your insomnia, from another insomnia sufferer ..... It is getting bit better for me.- Nausea
@@breezy25 I am just curious re your being sent home with Phenergan, as well. I have really bad hay fever and runny nose at times (curtesy of my thyroid), plus I read somewhere that WLS can also aggravate the runny nose post op I get this anti-histamine over the counter, ever since my thyroid issues started. It also helps me with sleep, as it is very sedating. I remember bracing my stomach when I felt a sneeze or cough coming on, early post op. Is this why Phenergan was given to you? Sorry for being bit nosey, just anything to do with runny nose is very interesting to me, as I still battle it daily ...... My prescribed nose sprays don't help at all.- 5 days post op - No BM - can't get ahold of doc
Yes, anaesthetic drugs plus the trauma of surgery can temporarily affect the bowels. As well as pain meds. With Gastric surgery, there is additional challenge of being on liquids only, and this does not help either. Providing there is no massive pain, gas is being expelled OK, this condition is a natural healing symptom. Just need to observe if it gets worse. As mentioned above, Obstruction is a very serious condition. Read up on surgical post op symptoms and signs to pay attention to. Read up on possible complications. Some need ER admission ASAP. - My stall
