  1. @@qmissy824 you know, I'm not nervous yet :) I'm actually really excited as this is something I've wanted since I was 18. Now as I'm approaching 31, I decided it's finally time. After many years or struggling with my weight losing 120pounds, then gaining and losing over and over again. I decided enough is enough.

I had really bad asthma as a child, I had to use a nebulizer throughout the winter and an inhaler in the summer so I know your struggle with asthma flare ups. Sending you positive vibes and I hope all goes well with your consult.

Have you met your surgeon at a seminar or will this be your first meet and great?

We have a lot to look forward to! :-)

  2. @@smg thanks so much. I considered self pay since I wanted to have plastic surgery but after a few consults I realized I wasn't at my ideal weight and my BMI was too high for plastics. I'm def using this community as a tool. It's always great to hear from other people and their experiences. I'm looking forward to each step of the process.

I've waited 30 years to get to an ideal weight, I'm sure I can wait another 6 months :) when did you have your procedure and how are you doing?

  3. Hi all! My PCP has given me the green light to schedule my appointment with my Bariatric surgeon.

I wish my PCP would have told me I could have done this two months ago, but I think she was waiting on my labs.

I'm super excited about scheduling my appointment. Any sleevers in Tampa?

Can someone share what the bariatric surgeon visits are like?

I know I have a long road ahead of me. I need 6 months nutritional counseling but I'm excited to get this ball going.

    Thanks!

    Gigi

  4. Hi all- I currently have a UHC deductible of 3250, but my open enrollment is July 1. My other option is a middle deductible for 1650.

I'm considering changing since I believe it'll be most beneficial. Can anyone share their perspective and offer advise?

It'll cost me more monthly, but I'm hoping it'll save me having to come out of pocket for the surgery itself since I know that's super expensive.

I'm in Florida and I looked at the average cost of 16k. Insurance will cover 90% once ded is met.

I'll probably still have to finance the procedure. Hopefully the dr and or hospital take care credit

  5. @@rnsamantha that's great to know. How many months are you post op? How do you feel? It's not hard for me to gain weight so I think I'll be okay. I just want to make sure to maintain my weight now or not to go under the 40bmi :) thank you so much.

  6. @@GranadoM74 OMG you're almost at the finish line. Please share once you get your date! Everyone's stories and result keep me so motivated. I know the 6 months will fly by! The weight gain or loss is a good question that I will ask my dr, thank you for brining that up.

Do you know if you'll have to pay any money for the surgery? I'm not sure if I should my plan to low deductible VS the high ded that I'm on now w UHC. I may need to look into that more or search the threads.

Seems like the evaluations are easy peasy I feel much better now after everyone's encouragement. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Wishing you the best and looking forward to seeing your progress! :)

  7. @@Dub thanks so much. It's good to know it was a positive experience. I still have awhile to go since I just stared the process with my dr. Had blood work done then setting up a follow up to get the ball rolling. I'm looking forward to it, i wish I would have considered WLS years ago. I can't wait to look back on this 6-12 months post op. Thank so much for your response.

  8. Hi Elizabeth, varicose veins run in my family :( my dad had them removed but his surgeon informed us that they can come back. Weight, genetics, and standing/sitting a lot can exacerbate varicose veins. I have them now and I try and wear compression stockings as often as I can. Hopefully after VSG It'll alleviate some of my issues.

  9. Hi everyone! I am very happy to be joining this forum and looking to all the information and seeing everyone's transformations.

I'm currently 30 yo woman and have struggled with weight all my life. I was born 10lbs and suffered really bad asthma as a child that definitely contributed to my weight gain. At the age of 18, Im 5'3.5" and weighed 301.

I worked out for 2-3 years and changed my diet and managed to get down to 190. I still wasn't satisfied.

Today, I'm currently back at 237. I finally decided it's time to consider weight loss surgery (WLS). At the age of 18, my doctor did not recommend WLS because I was too young.

I realized that a healthy diet and exercise are going to be a part of my forever. However, it would be a dream come true if I can have VSG to finally be able to feel comfortable in my body.

I have UHC and I live in Florida. Bariatric surgery is covered and I am required to do the following:

    40 BMI or greater

    A psych evaluation

6 months of a supervised diet by a physician

    notification from my dr.

I am having lab work done this week and I am looking forward to getting started.

Can anyone share what the psych evaluation is like and what the 6 months of the supervised diet is like? Thanks in advance.

    Gigi.
