  1. @@seeyalaterNOT I've asked that too. I've "heard" that it's a flat rate. That it includes surgery, hospital stay, doctor's in hospital visits. I too want to make sure exactly what that includes. I am hoping to have my gallbladder removed while I'm under, and if I do, how much extra is that? Will Aetna pay for that part? These are still some of my questions.

  2. Hi @chasinglife. I'm looking at a surgery date of end of May or June 2nd. I start my 1st of 2 classes on Wed. Most of my pre-op tests are next week. Getting so anxious to get this party started.

I had to go to an education class, see the dietitian, have an upper gi, do the 6 month supervised diet and have a psych evaluation. I've done everything except for the psych evaluation and finally the 6 month. I'm so excited, but nervous at the same

@chasinglife I have met with my Nutritionist, had my Psych evaluation, and met with my Bariatrician. Next Wed. I have my sleep study, metabolism test, electrocardiogram, lab work, and on Thurs. my upper GI which I am doing unsedated!! Then have my PT on May 5th and my last class on May 10th.

  3. @@seeyalaterNOT I'm also self pay at mayo Clinic. I have insurance, but my Aetna plan doesn't cover anything toward Weightloss surgery. If you get insurance, you would need to meet the insurance plans requirements before your surgery and that may differ than Mayo's requirements. I'm thankful that my insurance has paid for my consult visits but having to pay $19,000 is going to hurt but the best money I've ever spent!

  4. So all of the medical pamphlets and articles I've read, including the Baritastic App, say that the average weight loss for someone receiving the gastric sleeve is 60% of your EXCESS weight. I have 125lbs I want to lose to get to my goal weight. On here just about every story I read on those who have had it are losing all their excess weight. Am I looking through rose colored glasses or is it VERY certain if I follow all instructions, exercise and eat according to plan, that I can lose 125lbs? Your thoughts?

  5. @Ruth1less, yes I am local. I live in the intracoastal west area. In the Girvin/Wonderwood area. My PCP is Dr. Hedges in Cannady.

It sounds like you will be a couple of months ahead of me. I was hoping since I'm self pay, I can speed this process along. But, it's my understanding that the classes are required regardless of insurance. I have heard great things about Dr. Bowers and I am very interested in the new Director of Bariatrics Dr. Elli. I've been reading up on him and I would be very comfortable with him doing the surgery. Plus, I could get scheduled faster with him since he is new. What does the Bariatrician discuss with you that is different than the surgeon consult?

  6. Hi @@jane13 how long ago was your surgery?

@@Ruth1ess so excited for your approval! My insurance plan doesn't cover anything regarding weight loss, just crazy. So, I am self pay. I have met with Karen my coordinator, ️ her and have my appointment with Dr. Lynch on 4/6 and Dr. Ames, Psych on 4/7. Then meet with nutritionist on 4/11. I'm hoping to have my surgery in June. Did you already take the two session classes? How were they?

I am so glad to meet you both! Very excited to know there are others in my area on the journey. I would love to stay in touch with you both @@jane13 and @@Ruth1ess.

  7. Thanks everyone for sharing! I have been very blessed with no other medical issues or meds. However, I just had my lab work done and my cholesterol and triglycerides were too high that my PCP is considering putting me on Cholesterol lowering meds. I told her I'm in the process for the WLS and hoping I can hold off. I've lost 30 lbs twice while on Metformin once 7 years ago, got pregnant, stopped Metformin and gained all weight back and then I lost 30lbs on my own 2 1/2 yrs ago watching my carbs (less than 20 grams a day) and no sugar. And staying on my metformin very strictly. But, I started having other issues, like repeated bladder infections, constant diarrhea, (TMI) but results of 4 extended release Metformins a day! I found myself stopping the Metformin when I knew I was going to be on a trip or away from a bathroom during the day and slowly started adding the carbs back into my diet. Now, I'm at the exact weight I was when I gave birth, accept this time no baby excuse.

Looking forward to starting a new journey with my sleeve and not looking back!
