    Psychological Evaluation

Nothing to be embarrassed about...I think it's important that you are in the "right place" emotionally before getting the surgery. You will be far more successful! This is why the psych evaluation is important and part of the quality WLS programs. I have mine Tuesday...hoping I "pass" but if I don't - I will know I need work on my mind before I get any on my body! Hoping that you can have the surgery in Sept and do well! Tuna Time! Share Your Protein Recipes Here!

I just saved this from a WW site...haven't tried it yet but looks good! I'm just starting my WLS journey...does anyone see any concerns with this recipe after surgery? http://77recipes.com/tuna-and-white-bean-salad/?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=Postcron.com Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
  3. Try taking something for pain and for gas. If you can, walk around and see if it improves. Call your Surgeon to tell them and get their input - they should be available 24/7. Hope you feel better soon! Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

To Tell Or Not to Tell

Only my sister and boyfriend know so far! Once I get closer, I'll tell my parents and nieces. I have a good 6 months before I can be scheduled and it will be stressful enough without scrutiny and questions... Especially from my Mom. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

  7. Feeling better (less aches and pains), more energy, more social (stop obsessing about if I'll fit into the booth when we go out to eat, or if I'm going to pull a Shallow Hal and break a stool or chair, how I need to sit in aisle seat at a concert and attempt to make myself smaller so I don't annoy the people around me,) being able to have a picture taken of me that doesn't make me cringe or cry and pray no one sees it!, having a shirt for more than a day before I spill something down the front of me, going to my PCP and getting a clean bill of health instead of another referral to a specialist because something else is wrong with me, a better sex life, more energy, wearing a worn out pair of levis in regular size and looking damn good, etc, etc. I just pray I'll get there... 8. I originally went thinking I would only do the band - then I heard that 50-60% of banders need secondary surgeries at some point due to complications and the weight loss is the lowest of the 3 options. My surgeon recommended the sleeve after reading my history and our discussion. I don't tend to eat sweets often so I don't need to have the added deterrent of dumping syndrome to my weight loss attempt. I also don't graze so the restriction only surgery is a good choice. The surgeon, nutritionist and psych along with the patient decide the best option in my practice. I just started my journey. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
  9. Last year, instead of going to the WLS seminar I thought "I don't want anything that drastic..I can do this without surgery"! Well I was as wrong - I'm heavier and heading towards 300lbs. I have hypertension, hypothyroidism, PCOS, Mild sleep apnea, interstitial cystitis, joint pain, degenerative disc disease, aches and pains all the time (back, hip, ankles). I can not do this myself and I don't want to be dead or riding around in a hoveround (?sp) when I'm 50 (48 now!). I figure at the rate I'm going I'll be diabetic before long! In addition to my health issues - I can't stand the sight of myself. My weight is impacting my social life. WLS isn't for everyone and it certainly isn't an easy decision but it's a decision I wish I made 10 or more years ago! :-) Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

    Anesthesia Questions.

There are several side effects of anesthesia but nothing to worry about. They will initially give you something by IV that will calm you. You won't remember much once you're "under" but waking up you will be groggy, your throat will be sore, and you may be cold (shivering) but the Recovery Room RNs will do everything to make you comfortable. They will ask you alot of questions pre-op so don't hesitate to ask the Anesthesiologist any questions. I have had a few surgeries and one I wasn't able to have general anesthesia so had a spinal and I much prefer to be "under"! Try not to worry - but be sure to ask any question you have of the surgeon or operative team. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

    PreOp Diet

I was very excited to hear that mine doesn't require one either unless you're over 400lbs. Hopefully they don't change that by the time my surgery date comes around. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

    Sleep study ?

They didn't titrate me during 1st study (said she would if had apnea) and I ended up having mild sleep apnea. I had to go back for titration. I'm somewhat cynical that I actually need a CPAP but I have one now. I do find I sleep deeper the last few weeks so that's been a plus. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

    Burning sensation in my feet

If blood work is okay...I would go to a Podiatrist or Foot Specialist. You may need a cortisone shot. They should also xray to see if you have a heel spur. Sneakers did not help me. After the cortisone shots (needed more than 1) - I did well when wearing a high flip flop with a 1 1/2 inch wedge or a nurses clog like shoe when necessary (if I couldn't get away with flip flops). Also I find Merrell hikers work well instead of a normal sneaker. I also got a brace/boot to wear at night to keep my foot at a certain angle. I hope something works for you - it sure is miserable! How to Change your Mind....

Congrats on a fantastic weight loss! 5 months is a short time to lose that much weight and your brain needs to catch up to your body. There must be others experiencing this problem but I would also encourage you to talk to a behavior health counselor. Take pictures and keep a journal of your progress! You should be incredibly proud of yourself and your new life! Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
  23. This is one of my bigger fears as well. My Mom has alopecia and has been bald all my life. Any hair loss is going to scare the crap out of me. I am just in the beginning stage of my journey but I'm going to be doing alot of research on this topic. Things I've read so far - wash infrequently, don't put back in elastic or clip, and avoid extensions or anything that will put stress on it. Please let me know if anyone has been able to avoid this and how! TY Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
