    PCOS hair and period issues

@@Sarah 82 Have you not had a period since your operation? I would touch base with your PCP or Gynecologist - they will probably want to run some lab work to see where your hormone levels are. The hair loss is normal from what I've read - but I haven't heard anything about hair growth being a problem but since it's all hormone related - it makes sense. Good luck! Let me know how you make out!

    Regret at times

@@Breepad09 They sell Protein Water that you could try (not as much protein as a shake but it's something). I also found chicken stock with 9gm protein in a serving. I haven't tried it yet to see if it tastes any different from regular broth. Can you put unflavored protein mix into plain water??

    STRUGGLING

@@Kelly84 This was most likely a fear reaction of your husband and not how he truly feels. He is upset and worried and instead of saying that - or communicating - he's lashing out. Talk to him - make sure he understands the surgery and how important his support is to you! Prayers for your upcoming surgery!!

    Health insurance

They all vary...even among the Carrier (i.e. BCBS) there are several different plans. Some don't cover WLS at all.

    What type of diet

Be sure to tell the Nutritionist what you normally eat - not what you think you should be eating. Depending on your history and habits - they may recommend something different than what we've been told. Take notes! There's a lot of info to remember! This is your opportunity to ask questions too.
  6. @@kranky813 Prayers that the breast lumps aren't anything serious! Good luck with your surgery!

    Bypass 6 month wait..

I am using it to try and change my eating habits. This includes not only what I eat and how much but when I eat (emotionally). I'm learning everything I can about living after surgery and successfully losing and keeping weight off. I'm going to see a psychologist for some tips and counseling around emotional eating. I don't really eat or drink anything that I may potentially have to stop after surgery (soda, sweets) but if I did I'd use this time to kick the habit as much as possible. I'm disappointed I have to wait but I'm turning it into a positive.

    Date moved -rant/pout

I know it's disappointing but be thankful that you have a good medical team looking out for your best interests. The complications could have been deadly. Stay strong and feel better soon!

    Scared

You absolutely need to change your behaviors but WLS can provide you with a tool to help. I waited until I was 47 to realize I couldn't do it on my own. I have gained probably 75- 100lbs since I was 23. Find a good Bariatric Program that incorporates Nutrition, Psych and an experienced surgeon. We all would benefit from counseling as well. I'm scheduling an appointment with the Psychologist for emotional eating before I have surgery. I'm not an expert by any means but I can only say - I wish I started this journey when I was younger. I could have avoided all of the health problems that are associated with being obese. Good luck with whatever you decide. A weight loss program would be beneficial even if you decide not to go the surgery route. Just go to an informational seminar to learn more. Please keep us posted.

    I've gained 3 lbs!

My guess would be that you have 2+lbs of pooping to do. Concentrate on water intake, protein and pooping! Good luck!

need to learn to slow dow

My NUT said you need about 20 mins for your brain to register you are full. She recommended not eating in front of TV or computer, chew slowly and be conscious of how the food tastes, take a break between bites (put spoon/fork down). Eat the recommended amount and wait to see if you get full. Use small bowls and plates and utensils.
  12. What support/help I had at home post-op was one of the questions asked in my psych evaluation. Maybe if you have a few friends just stopping in to see if you need anything would be good.

    Prayers Kyle! Good luck.
  14. It's natural to have doubts and cold feet! Think about all of the success stories shared on this site and stay strong! Everything will go great! I have 5 months more to wait.
  15. In my State and with my employer...FMLA is the leave of absence (protecting your job while you are out). Short Term Disability is a way to get paid for time off (as long as you pay into it or have short term disability policy). You can take sick or vacation as well (actually you have to use any accrued time where I work).
  16. Your PCP probably needs to request a referral through the insurance. Call Member Services for your plan and get exact details of what's needed. BTW - your Surgeon's office should have been more specific and more helpful!

    What to eat?

Just read this article on my local news about beans aiding in weight loss... http://turnto10.com/features/health-landing-page/health-check-lose-weight-by-eating-beans

Does anyone feel weak or sick?

I found chicken stock that has 9gm protein per serving. Not as much as a shake but it might be something you can tolerate better (if you can have broth at this stage).

    Frustrated

I would not take any changes and get checked at the ER - especially if you think you are dehydrated. Dehydration is nothing to mess with. Take care...

    CPAP post-op

I would resume using your CPAP. Make sure to get enough protein and water! Hope you feel better.

    Extremely tired 3 weeks post-op

Are you back using your CPAP? I would definitely start again!
