    Different stages

You should have this info before surgery. @@bellabeans Do you have a pre-op appointment?

    I'm stuck and frustrated

Maybe it's just me but I am not getting WLS to have to go and do another fad diet like Shakeology. This is not sustainable.

9 days post op and starving

Are you on an acid reducer (PPI)? What may feel like hunger could be acid or even head hunger. What can you have at this stage with the Band? Are you able to drink Protein shakes?

    Pre op liquid diet

No chicken (if you're on liquids only). Sugar free popsicles, Powerade Zero, sugar free jello... Good luck! Decaffeinated tea (different flavors - hot or iced).

    Pre op liquid diet?

@@AudreyDarling Many surgeon's plans are different - some vary by patient. Mine is only 1 day clear liquids. We are the lucky ones I think!

    Still Sick

@@melvin5ft2 She'll definitely be deficient in everything - she hasn't been able to keep anything down since surgery. :-( I think it's time to go to the ER and not leave until you get help.

    Food idea

@@mommylove2014 The weight loss classes with a PCP aren't going to give you instructions on living and eating post surgery. Please ask to speak to a nutritionist when you are in the hospital and go over any questions. My Nutritionist will be at the hospital post-op.

    Food

And to add to @@LPNAshley - it's dangerous to let others think since she did it and "it went down ok" that they can do it too. This isn't cheating on a diet - it's risking your health by not following a medical professional's instructions post major surgery.

    Conflicted

@@cbonet I think therapy pre-op is so important. Obesity is a disease - there's no reason to beat yourself up. It's important to get emotionally ready for WLS. It's often more emotionally challenging than physically challenging. You won't have food to deal with your emotions and certainly don't want to turn to alcohol or prescription drugs as some family. Also - this is your journey - take care of yourself! We all have similar issues with food.

    Food

She was given advice. It didn't matter.
  14. Take a taste Sent from my SM-N910V using BariatricPal mobile app Taking a taste is not always a good idea. If you aren't "allowed" a certain food or drink - you're not allowed any - even a taste. For example - I'm not allowed nuts for 8 weeks. A taste could cause significant complications - possibly life threatening. If you are "addicted" to ice cream and just "take a taste" it could trigger a binge. Stay strong and find a distraction or alternative for a craving.

    Blood clot concerns

@@buckeyegirl76 I would not stop Aspirin unless you were instructed to. Talk to your surgeon about your concerns. I'm on oral contraceptives (have high BP, fam hx of stroke, etc) and I'm waiting until my surgeon appt to find out what to do about my current meds.

    Check! One, two!

@@NOVAMOM348 It depends on your insurance requirements and your surgeon's requirements. I've been prepping since March 30th and don't expect surgery until late September (if I'm lucky). Others it seems to be very quick. Does your insurance have a requirement of a weight management beforehand?
  17. KristenLe

    Wondering why?

It's about training, experience, beliefs, success, etc. Our Program has "standards" they give to all patients. Some of the nutritionist are more "strict" in their beliefs than others but the "plan" we are given is approved by the Program Directors. Same as not all surgeon's believe the pre-op diet is necessary and there are so many versions. It's all about how they were trained/educated, research and what they have had success with. Some are more strict. They have to go by "Standards of Care" which are usually approved by a Medical Director (and go by studies or latest suggestions by the ASMBS.) It's to cover their asses basically.

Pre/Post Surgical Plans Are Not Required

We are not mocking them. We are concerned and when we voice those concerns - we are accused of being mean and bullying.

I hope they give you a post op diet to follow. Ask about a nutritionist visit - it's worth it to know what you should do. Good luck.

    3 days post op troubles

I would skip the egg this early out. Drink more protein shakes. Also - you may need an acid reducer (PPI). Try broth, sugar free popsicles to get more fluids.
