Pre-Op diet & start of cold

@@maredarlin Take Airborne. The issue with having honey is - it will probably take you out of ketosis. Ketosis is the goal of the pre-op diet. I would look into sugar free throat drops instead. Feel better!!!

    PCP anti wls

@@PNWsleever My surgeon asked for a letter of support from my PCP but I don't think they needed it. I would change PCPs immediately. To suggest meds or insulin is poor care and I wouldn't want him overseeing my health!

    Canceled surgery

She could have changed her mind. They may have discovered something in pre-op testing that prevented her from having surgery (ie. pregnancy). Maybe she didn't follow pre-op instructions (CPAP compliance, diet, etc). Don't stress about it - just do what you need to.

    Need a little pep talk

@@Jane1979 I originally went to surgeon with the intention of getting LapBand. After he told me that they are removing more than putting in and that 50-60% of lapband patients require a secondary surgery from complications - I quickly changed my mind and will be sleeved instead. Some have had success with the Lapband but they seem to be the minority.

@@tiffanyt I am pre-op but it seems that you need to meet or exceed your protein goals every day - especially if you're working out. Congrats on your incredible success!

Yikes - that's very few calories.
  7. @@TransformeVSG Can they give you anything to help you have a bowel movement? Are they making you stay in the hospital until you pass gas?

  10. @@asamii Are you drinking enough fluids and staying hydrated? Dehydration can impact kidneys and cause pain that moves towards the back like that. If it's not dehydration - try a heating pad.

    WEIGHT GAIN

@@Gaby86 @@katieroybal One thing my therapist had me to (which helped) was write a list of all of the things I want to do after weight loss - and keep it where I can review if I ever need any motivation to stick with the diet. I had a difficult time losing weight during this time too - and I kept saying "why bother...I'm never going to lose weight". She had me write a list of all the answers to "why bother"... Best of luck to you both!!! I'm still waiting for my surgery date and was done with my therapy and nutrition appointments and received insurance approval at the end of June.

    WEIGHT GAIN

@@Gaby86 Based on your comment - I'm assuming you're having difficulty eating healthy during this pre-op phase (and this wasn't just Water retention). It's very difficult and a huge change for us. I found therapy with the psychologist in my bariatric program very helpful in dealing with cravings and emotional/mindless eating. I would encourage anyone to get therapy pre-op and post-op - as this is more mental than physical. Plan out your meals - make sure you have healthy alternatives available at all times. Bring food to work so you don't get tempted to eat unhealthy (or end up grabbing fast food). Eat from small plates - using small utensils. Eat slowly (put utensil down between bites), don't eat in front of the TV. Try having 5-6 small meals every 3 hours (while awake) - concentrating on Protein and produce. No Pasta, bread, pizza, rice, candy, Cookies, etc. Once you eat them - you'll crave more and sabotage yourself. Cut out soda or sweetened drinks, fruit juice, etc. Drink water or non-caloric drinks. You can do this - and you'll be in a much better position to be successful post-op! A weight gain during this time can effect insurance approval. Hopefully that's not the case with you. Stay strong!!!

    Worried.

@@Theresa.86 You can't stretch your sleeve. It's great you are managing to eat (approved foods) without problems - that's what we all hope for! Fluids and purees pass through your sleeve quickly - they don't sit in your stomach. Sounds like you are doing great!

    Pre-op 2 Week Liquid Diet

This is a really important and a key to being successful both pre-op and post-op. I try to make something on a Sunday to bring to work for lunches. This week I made chicken (actually in the crock pot so I didn't have to turn on oven in this heat) and had chicken breast with frozen broccoli side one day and chicken salad two other days. Today I didn't have much to bring so I just grabbed a can of black Beans - (sometimes I'll grab a can of tuna and a tomato) - which will stop me from running out at lunch to grab something fast (and carb loaded). I was taking yogurt for Breakfast but my body has had enough - can't gag it down right now - so I have been bringing a premier Protein shake instead.

    Getting sleeved tomorrow

@@TWW200 They usually can't determine this until they attempt the surgery and realize that the liver is too fatty to safely operate.
  19. @@Dinks97420 It sounds as though the 22nd would be better for everyone. You will be exhausted from surgery and still be concentrating on getting enough fluids/protein. Even if there are no complications - I don't think you'll be ready to go back 5 days later.

This isn't about calories. Be sure to meet your Protein and Water goals. You are still swollen and probably dealing with fluids from surgery. The scale means very little at this early stage.

    Getting sleeved tomorrow

Oh no! Sorry to hear that.
  24. I would be disappointed if I were him as well. Do you have children that you will need his help with? If not - maybe he can still go away. You'll probably be in the hospital until Saturday. I would almost rather my SO not be around those first few days. He tends to hover when I don't feel good and I'd rather be by myself. Your husband may have been caught off guard and will come around to being ok with plans changing.

    Day 5 without food...

I would not bother speaking to the RN again - go to the ER as @@OutsideMatchInside stated. This is a serious issue and you need medical care. Keep us posted.
