    Back on pre op diet

You may want to postpone until you have your head in the game. It's concerning you can't stick with preop diet even after surgery was cancelled. Not following your postop diet is dangerous! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App
  2. @@leliwhoaoh I don't think there will be an issue! Many of us have only 24 hours of liquids - others have a week. I think 12 days will be fine! If you want reassurance- talk to your surgeon but I honestly think you won't have any problems at all! Congrats on the fast approval! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App
  3. My insurance didn't require the 6 month supervised diet because my BMI was over 50 too! You might not have to wait as long as you think @@Jane1979
  4. Many surgeons in the US won't perform surgery unless BMI over 35.

    Coffeeeee

The biggest issue with this will be going thru caffeine withdrawal post-op when you are already dealing with enough. I'd rather go thru withdrawal now.

How do people lose 40 lbs in a month?!

This is where the % of weight lost is more appropriate than the actual pounds. Think of it that way and you'll realize you're doing just as well as your friend.

    Coffeeeee

@@madisunshine1 It is recommended to avoid caffeine "FOREVER" (that's a hell of a long time) on my plan. Their reasons are relative to caffeine interfering with the absorption of Calcium and some other vitamins/minerals. Although they clearly said - it's up to us - we're adults and can make our own decisions. This is all from my Nutritionist though - which they can be a lot more rigid (sticks up their asses). I will be double checking with my surgeon to see what he has to say about it.
  9. @@Jane1979 Most of it is because of insurance bureaucracy - they want to delay as much as possible hoping you're give up and they won't have to shell out money for surgery! (I know that sounds cynical but I truly believe that's their intent). With that said - some preparation is necessary and helpful to prepare you for surgery. I think the nutrition counseling and psych eval (if done properly) and any recommended therapy is a good thing - this is a huge change and you need to be sure you understand that (so you won't be one of the people 2 days post op regretting it because you can't have a steak for dinner). Your insurance may not require 6 months of supervised weight loss - so it may go quicker for you. Many people have a faster track. If you are flexible with scheduling appointments and lab work ,etc. - it will go faster. Hang in there!!!
  10. @@kimberb In this case - it's important to track to make sure you're getting ENOUGH (usually) rather than too many points!

    Exercise Plans

@@Abrandnewlife Anything but walking or a stationary bike will not be recommended until 4-6 weeks (at the least) from most surgeons. They are concerned about dehydration but mostly about hernias.
  12. @@Supermomof2 Always check with your surgeon about any pain you are unsure about. What might be normal to someone might be a complication for another. I know that I've read others complain of pain in this area - or the left - depending on where your surgeon removed your stomach from. To get more fluids - try different temps - some you may tolerate and be able to drink more than the other. Constantly sip - tea (hot or cold, flavored - decaf), crystal light, Powerade zero, Vitamin Water zero, broth, infused water, Protein shakes (if allowed count as liquids). Eat sugar free popsicles, shaved iced, crushed ice with sugar-free non-caloric liquid (like a slushie or snow cone). Hang in there!!!

Did you ever have second thoughts?

@ A lot of people have had doubts right before surgery - some have even backed out (a few who regretted backing out). I think it's normal to be anxious of the "unknown". Follow your guidelines and you will have a better chance of a successful surgery and recovery!!! Good luck!!!
  14. @@Waler Why are you reluctant to do it? Do you need surgery - or are you happy with things the way they are?? Is it free because it's in a back alley somewhere?? lol If it's a reputable plastic surgeon - I would say go for it (I'm pretty sure I would).
  15. @@adurrette89 Well he sounds like an asshole to me!!!
  16. Your Dr suggested you should lose 88 bs in 3 months?? I don't think that's a realistic expectation to put on someone.

    5days post op

@@ellsmayy I encourage you to find something you tolerate or you will be hospitalized and get fluids through an IV. There's plenty of fluids you can try - tea, crystal light, broth, Powerade Zero, Vitamin Water Zero, infused water, sugar free popsicles, ice chips, crushed ice with Crystal light, Isopure protein drinks, Atkins Lift... Find something you can drink and if you can't - call your surgeon or go to ER.

    Cheated :(

^^^^ Exactly! It's not about the "diet" - it's about risking complications this early out! And having a cheat day once a week is asking for trouble - "cheating" on diets has gotten me where I am - morbidly obese! This is a lifestyle change not a diet.
  19. It wouldn't be okay if it was me! Is she still in the hospital?

    Clothes purge!

    A GOOD problem though!!!
  21. @@Dinks97420 You made the right decision!!! Best of luck with your surgery and recovery!!!
  22. @@crut77 It all depends on your surgeon (and sometimes your insurance plan). Sometimes it even varies by patient (not always related just to BMI). I didn't have to lose weight prior to surgery (although I did have to do nutrition counseling). I also don't have to do a pre-op liquid diet (except 24 hours before surgery). It's important to ask these questions of your surgeon so you are not surprised to learn you needed to lose weight and didn't.
  23. I haven't had to do a stress test or pulmonary clearance - I hope they don't spring that on me at my pre-op appointment! I was hoping for a surgery date on that day - not more testing being ordered!

    Surgery Cover Stories?

@@vixsummer I would go with hiatal hernia. You'll just have to say that you are eating better (high protein/low carb) and exercising to explain the weight loss - which won't be a lie!
