This is what I made last night - with lots of garlic (didn't put cheese on it but YUM). I ate so much that I think my pee will smell for days! :-)

95 pounds down and counting...

@@Christy5913 Congrats!!! Your transformation is encouraging to me as a newbie!!! You look beautiful!!! -
@@BreannaW Many of us don't even have the pre-op "liver shrinking diet" so don't worry - 12 days should be sufficient. Just be sure to stick to the plan and only eat/drink what you are allowed.

There's a forum related to surgery in Mexico. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/486-mexico-self-pay-weight-loss-surgery/

You need to get in enough fluids and protein. My plan suggests supplementing with shakes during this phase - as it is nearly impossible to get in enough protein without them. Gherlin is reduced with the sleeve - not completely gone. It would seem you are truly hungry and need to drink and eat according to your plan.
-
Are you taking a PPI? Sometimes that could be more stomach acid than actual hunger.

How much should I be able to eat
KristenLe replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
or a whole banana -
@@Disneygirl70 It's always best to call your surgeon to discuss anything like this. What may have been normal pains for someone else may be complications for you. Don't take any chances - especially with chest pain (that can be one of the signs of a blood clot). It may just be gas pains but I'd hate for you to find out too late that wasn't the case. Your surgeon (or the RN) will review symptoms and advise you as to what to do.

How much should I be able to eat
KristenLe replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The average banana is over 4 ozs (peeled) - which at 2 weeks out my plan suggests 1-2 ozs of pureed foods at a meal. How much are you supposed to have? Mushed/pureed foods will quickly go through your sleeve and that's why it's so important to measure and stick to your guidelines. At 2 weeks - your nerves in your stomach are still not healed - so you won't necessarily know if you are full. I don't think the issue is your "pouch being too big" as much as it is you ate too much. Your sleeve isn't always going to stop you from overeating - we have to stop ourselves (stick to the suggested amounts and measure). I believe in another post you called out someone for being rude indicating this was a "support group" - yet your replies to people trying to offer you guidance and answers were extremely rude. If you don't want honest responses - don't ask questions. We've lost too many experienced, successful folks on this forum because of these types of posts and that's not good for any of us. -
Trying to not be jealous
KristenLe replied to Raynbolite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Raynbolite If you are going to compare yourself to others - especially a man - you're going to be very disappointed! As @@suzzzzz said - he had Bypass too - which is a faster loss at first. Unrealistic expectations will sabotage you in the long run. Keep going on your journey - you'll get there. -
Thought I was waiting for approval - Dr wants to switch to bypass =(
KristenLe replied to bostonmama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@bostonmama I'm wondering if this will happen to me as well - my GI study showed mild reflux. I have an appointment next week with the surgeon. Although - I've already been approved for the Sleeve so not sure how that would work. Anyway - if the surgeon recommends bypass - that's what I'm going to do. I also didn't want the malabsorption issues - but I'd rather not get Sleeve and have reflux so bad I need a revision. You need to take Vitamins with the Sleeve and the Bypass - so that shouldn't be an issue/concern. Before you panic - talk to your surgeon and see what they say. Good luck! -
@@determined1LD Is it for a week before surgery or 24 hours before surgery? Definitely clarify with your surgeon - it would seem unlikely to do milk of magnesia for a week - you'll never get off the toilet!

Please HELP with some advice!
KristenLe replied to Mindy Gullion's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Mindy Gullion That may not be enough fluids - try increasing your non-caloric liquids (decaf tea, Powerade zero, Vitamin Water zero, crystal light, infused water, broth, etc.). That may do the trick to move things along. Remember - 11 pounds is still a loss and as long as you're going in the right direction you're doing well. There's no race to the finish line. Keep us posted as to how you do! -
@@wesher71 I had a psych eval with a psychiatrist who is part of my Bariatric Program. During the eval - I asked for additional help with emotional eating issues (I thought I had a 6 month wait so figured I'd take advantage of it and get all the tools I could). I had bi-weekly sessions for 3 months with a psychologist and really feel like I got a lot out of those. I would recommend them to everyone going through this process.

Anyone starting to think this isn't the "right" answer/tool?
KristenLe replied to Kelleylu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@vegbeth Surgery will help you to eat less without being hungry (satisfied with smaller portions - and the "hunger hormone" is reduced drastically with the Sleeve for sometime). However - surgery is only a tool - we still need to do the work and change our eating habits. Many can lose - maintaining that loss is very difficult. In fact, only 5% of people who lose on their own are able to keep that weight off. That's not great odds. Continue to do research before you decide as it is a very personal decision only you can make. Therapy may not be a bad idea either. Good luck! -
Anyone starting to think this isn't the "right" answer/tool?
KristenLe replied to Kelleylu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Babbs said it so well! There's many surgical procedures that help eliminate or treat diseases - why is this any different. I don't think there's anything barbaric about WLS. It's not only about not overeating for many of us too - I couldn't lose 150lbs of excess weight by only eating less. I've tried many times and any weight lost has been found - with some extra passengers on board! -
Have the surgeon's office call BCBS.

Looks like I will be paying for this myself
KristenLe replied to harmony5001's topic in Insurance & Financing
Do you have a 401k or 403b that you could take out a loan on that may not impact taxes at all? I would look into a low interest loan before paying capital gains tax on stock. Sorry you have to pay yourself! -
@@Jesm1029 I don't think it's the cheese. If you're exercising alot - try increasing protein and be sure you are getting plenty of fluids. Change up your exercise every now and then too.

I had 3 visits and lost 3 lbs. My 2nd month I lost 0. That wasn't a problem for me (in terms of my Program) - but others have weight loss requirements and if there's any gain they have to start over.
