There's a forum for 50's folks - but it's not that active. You may be able to find some answers to your questions BUT - you are NOT too old!!! http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/804-fifties/

    Before and After Pics

@@Kimmey16. Look at the posts regarding embracing the stall - it's common at 3 weeks post-op. Don't worry about what the scale says - if you're getting your protein and water in then you'll lose.

    Only want water...

Are you diabetic or on any other medications (blood presdure)? If so - you may need to have them adjusted. What about other liquids like broth, protein water, mix protein powder with clear liquids so at least your getting enough protein if unable to drink shakes.

    Pre-op diet! Why?

It depends on your Surgeon and your size. My surgeon only requires a pre-op diet for 400+ lbs. Just count your blessings like I am! :-)

    Snoring

I don't know. I've never had a sleep study. I'm not sure if they'll require one during my pre-op (I'm just starting the process). I know that in the past when I got down about 50lbs from where I am now, my husband told me I basically stopped snoring. But then I regained and it's worse than ever. You will most likely need a sleep study before surgery. I would ask about it now and get a referral from your PCP so you don't have a delay (sometimes it can take a while to schedule and get report back). I would guess that you have sleep apnea.
  6. You look incredible - and just looking at the before and after may give you the kick in the pants you need to stop eating all of the sweets and start exercising. You may not need to lose more weight but you don't want to get into the bad habits that got you near 300lbs. Clearly you know what you need to do! And I agree - counseling wouldn't hurt! Good luck! I hope to be as successful as you!

    Denied by BCBS TN

Can you get records from any previous Drs? Look at the letter samples and info on the obesity action coalition and then call the person at the surgeons office that deals with this type of issue. I have no way of proving previous attempts either but I had to discuss them with the Nutritionist and Psychiatrist in my Bariatric Program. I have a very high BMI though so maybe that's the difference.

    BCBS- TN

That is crazy!!! Why bother having insurance at that amount?!

    Denied by BCBS TN

How much do you have to lose? I would consider appealing the denial. Look at the Obesity Action Coalition website for suggested appeal letters. Maybe your PCP would consider doing a peer to peer with the insurance or writing a letter on your behalf informing them of your history with obesity.

    Pureed Foods

I haven't gotten to that stage but I think you can eat hummus plain or maybe dip in a cooked carrot (soft)?

    Pureed Foods

I read somewhere that baby food isn't the best option but now I can't find article to read why. Anyway - try cottage cheese, hummus, soup (no chunks), canned tuna, chicken or salmon, beans.
  12. I'm not going to give them all up. I plan on going out to eat and just order healthy options from the menu. Most every restaurant has nutritional information available to make sure you select the best option and take 1/2 home or give to someone with me. It make take some time to be able to handle the temptations but I'm already starting to change what I order a few months before surgery.

    Weight gain

It's great you haven't gained...you'll lose that prednisone bloat once you come off them. Feel better soon!
  14. Good to hear. Keep going - it takes alot to deal with depression and anxiety alone never mind add WLS to that. Take care of yourself @@KittyCathy22
  15. @@dunnadunna I would look into a different brand of shakes for the remainder of your pre-op diet. Atkins tends to have more fat than others (i.e. premier protein). I don't think this will harm anything with your liver - there are just better options out there especially when you have 6 a day. Also - watch your sodium intake. If you are having alot of broth - that's high in sodium and will make you feel bloated / retain Water. Can you put a little lemon your water? If so - that would help with feeling puffy and bloated. Hang in there - your almost there and are doing great!

    Gloves come off?

@@Tommy Joe Maybe after your WLS - your friend will be inspired to do the same for herself! Sounds to me - she's probably scared - of both the surgery and the changes it brings (and that you have to make to be successful). Encourage your husband to come up with some healthier recipes - you can still enjoy food together! Best of luck on your journey - whatever you decide to do!

    Pulling sensation

@@kyle.odom. try take something like pepcid or whatever they recommend for acid reduction. Sounds like that may be what's going on.
  18. Have you done Birchbox? It's like makeup & skin, hair care of the month club. My sister got it for me for Christmas. For 6 months ... Every month I get about 6 fun new samples in the mail. You fill out a questionnaire and they aim to send products you might like. If you like something then you can buy a full sized product. It's fun. This month I got a great facial mask, hair product, eye shadow, and a full Bert's bees tinted lip balm.
  19. @@reallyrosy. Have you tried any holistic approaches that were successful? What really gets me is negative posts against people who are trying to help and give suggestions to someone who asked. I have learned alot from people who have been successful and share their thoughts and suggestions.

    Pre newbie questions

    No...I'm hoping for September.
  21. I bet you'll see a big drop soon. Don't worry! Sounds like you're doing everything properly!

    Letters

Obviously don't copy what others wrote but seeing a sample is always helpful to get my mind on the right track.

    Regrets?

@@Kellyfitz4 you are not a failure or helpless! This was exactly why my surgeon recommended 4 weeks (at least). He said that it is very difficult both emotionally and for the post-op diet to go back to work sooner. You'll feel better soon and can get back to work into your new position - feeling stronger and healthier! Congrats on your promotion!
