    The start of the process

I'm so eager to get the surgery that it's starting to be depressing 6 months is a long time to wait to have surgery Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App I feel the same way but I decided to use the time to learn everything I can and also to work on emotional eating issues. My NUT and Psych think 6 months is too long too so they're going to look at cutting a month or two (based on records from my PCP). Good luck at your appointment! Ask questions and write things down.

    I'm freaking out now

Surgery has risks but so does being morbidly obese. It's normal to be nervous but don't make yourself sick worrying.

    Soup with no starch?

I'm not sure. I don't have a pre-op diet. I can't imagine the amount that got thru the strainer would be a problem.

    Soup with no starch?

    You could strain them. ???
  5. What was your highest weight? I just can't imagine going through major surgery if my highest weight was 167lbs. But - I guess if I did I wouldn't have gotten to 289lbs.
  6. I want the snappy butternut right now! Lol
  7. Good to know! Thanks!
  8. Lol...I needed that laugh!
  9. You did not mess up your sleeve. Cottage cheese goes through rapidly. However - eat the suggested portion size and stop. It takes time for your brain to get the message you are full. You don't want to eat until your full. Concentrate on getting in your fluids and protein. Track your food.

    Silly questions

    You're right. Sorry.
  11. I don't think you'd be able to go to Orlando 2-3 days after discharge. It's not smart to fly after major surgery - blood clots are a concern but so is dehydration.

    Silly questions

The staples dissolve. Post-op you will most likely be given pain meds and possibly a blood thinner (but I think they test your bleeding rate first).
  13. I have had this same thought going through my head all day. Surgery should be last resort for morbidly obese or obese with comorbities. I can't imagine going through WLS when only having 50lbs or less to lose. Someone going through surgery next week is starting at my GOAL weight.

    Weakness...

It's probably up because you're dehydrated.

    Hubby not being supportive

@@mmy How much weight do you have to lose and do you have comorbities? The reason I ask is - your husband needs to understand that obesity is putting your life at risk too.

    Weakness...

Try sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello, broth...they should help getting more fluids. 20lbs is amazing in 6 days! Congrats!

    Weakness...

Hydrate - that's most important! Also - are you on any blood pressure meds? If so - they may need to be changed.

    Hubby not being supportive

I'm sure he is just scared. WLS is very stressful for all involved and can be very difficult on a relationship. Calmly talk to him about his true fears and see if you can get on the same page.

    Can I eat watermelon?

I think the important thing being overlooked here is her surgeon okay'd it.

    Can I eat watermelon?

Watermelon has less sugar than other melons. 1/2 cup has less than 5 net carbs. It's loaded with nutrients. If you're going to have a craving - it's not a bad one to have.

    Can I eat watermelon?

Watermelon is good for hydration and has alot of nutritional values. Enjoy!
  23. Try unflavored Pedialyte. They have pickle juice freeze pops if you like pickles. They are used for this purpose. Good luck!

    Very frustrated

I would imagine that if the hospital has a contract with Medicaid (which I'm sure they do) that they can't decide that they don't accept it for WLS if covered. That seems illegal to me! I would call your insurance plan and see what they have to say. They can't participate in a plan - and pick and choose what services they allow for patients with that plan. Hang in there!
