    Worried

If you can't reach surgeon and you're concerned - go to the ER.

    Puréed stage...what's the priority?

Protein and water are priority. Try getting more than 64oz of liquids. Did your Nutritionist give you a diet plan? Some are different in the # of times to eat.

    GB or Sleeve

@@CharlotteKat I'm aware of the weight loss statistics of both. I was asking what evidence you had that bypass should be my 1st choice. What you don't know about me is that I'm not overweight from eating sweets or fatty foods and don't need dumping as a deterrent. My surgeon isn't concerned that I "can't handle Bypass" - he feels that I don't need Bypass and it would actually not be the 1st choice in my situation.

  5. You may be experiencing head hunger rather than true hunger. Also - sometimes stomach acid may make you feel "hungry". Take Zantac or whatever was prescribed by your Surgeon. You lost 10lbs in 4 days - don't consider your original weight. That's great success so far! Drink plenty of non caloric liquids - that will help alot! Stay strong!

    GB or Sleeve

That's interesting - my surgeon recommended Gastric Sleeve for me - with a BMI of 54. After our consultation - he indicated that there really was no need for me to have the mal-absorption that the Bypass would provide. He's very confident that I can lose as much weight with the Sleeve and maintain - IF I change my lifestyle - which I'd have to do with either surgery to be successful. What evidence do you have that indicates bypass should be my first choice?

  10. @@NewMeBefore40 I'm more afraid of not losing weight after the sleeve than of the complications. Why do they think the sleeve will be the answer to your weight loss issues?

    Tell me your tips!

@@Rboyd713 I agree with @@Bufflehead about the pre-op diet. Your surgeon doesn't feel this is necessary - and I wouldn't put myself through it if I didn't have to. It will put you under greater stress (mentally) and having only liquids pre-op is very different than post-op. If there are certain things you eat/drink that you will have to give up post-op - you may want to cut back or eliminate them pre-op (carbonated drinks, coffee (some are allowed caffeine - others aren't))
  12. @@NewMeBefore40 Do you track your food intake? Maybe you should meet with a Nutritionist to see if there's some changes you can make without surgery. If you haven't already, I would also make sure you have a complete physical and blood work to see if there's something else going on that's preventing you from losing weight and contributing to your headache and dizziness. I'm pre-surgery (sleeve) but I wouldn't rush into a sleeve if you aren't able to eat much now (or have hunger). Good luck! Keep us posted! Kristen

Milk: the Reason I Look Like a Heifer?

Just passing along some advice that someone gave me yesterday when I disagreed with a post. Only in this case it wasn't applicable. :-)
  14. I drink a lot of Water / non-caloric drinks pre-surgery. Yes - I pee a lot - but more when I'm at work and sitting at my desk all day. I rarely wake up during the night to go (sometimes I have to go but I'm too lazy to get out of bed). Anyway - at work, I feel like it's a good time to get up and move around - get some circulation going rather than sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours straight. I can go a long time without peeing too - depends on the situation or setting. I've probably had 60 ozs of water today (it's 2:30 pm). My water intake will be in the form of Bloody Mary's tonight (still pre-surgery so no need for anyone to lecture me).

    Pre-op Egd concerns

@@Twoods196 They do biopsies for many reasons - it's basically the term they use for when they examine the tissue they collected. We tend to associate biopsy with cancer - that's not always the case. Hope the results come back clear - and all is well.

To Sleeve or not to sleeve.....

@ I felt this way - and always said "it's too drastic - I'll do it on my own" - but here I am almost 48 years old, 289lbs with hypertension, sleep Apnea, hypothyroid, degenerative disc disease and more. I could tell myself I can do it on my own right until I'm having to ride around in a hoveround. I have lost before - but then always found it again. It's obviously your decision and you know what's best for you - but consider that only 5% of morbidly obese people who lose lots of weight on their own are able to maintain and keep it off. I need WLS as a tool to help me lose weight but also to maintain. Good luck with your decision!
  17. Me!! I'm going through the steps for gastric sleeve (still pre-surgery - hoping for a September surgery).
  18. @@Acceber12 You may want to have them measure your height. Others are finding that they are actually an inch shorter than they always thought. That would bump your BMI up a little bit. Although - if you're already over 40 (even slightly) - you shouldn't have any problems getting approved (as long as you've been above 40 for a while (I think 2 years was my plan's requirement.

    Pregnant after sleeve

You will need to discuss this with your OBGYN. I don't think it is physically impossible to have a vaginal delivery - but from what I've read - they often recommend a c-section for safety reasons. There's also a Forum for Pregnancy after Sleeve that you may find more information in - or get more responses. Good luck!
  21. Congrats! Remember - just because you are done with the 6 months of visits doesn't mean you have to schedule the surgery right away. Talk to the scheduled and see what will work - as long as you won't need to repeat anything. Good luck and Congrats on your new position!!!

Milk: the Reason I Look Like a Heifer?

@@PayItForward The topic was something I wanted info about. What I didn't want was propaganda about Forks Over Knives or being told that milk would kill us and contained pus. The same propaganda that's been repeated on several threads in the last 24 hours and having nothing to do with WLS - in fact attempting to talk someone out of it!
