    Alcohol 2 days preop

My Bariatric Program is highly recommended and reputable - the best in the State! They don't require a preoperative diet and I'm confident in their skills and knowledge to follow their instructions rather than that of other surgeons' guidelines as prescribed for someone else (on a forum). I will be doing my clear liquids the day before surgery and not any sooner. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

    Crackers

I don't think anyone was shaming you! I don't know what they mean by non grain crackers but I think wheat thins would be too hard/crunchy. You'd probably need something that gets mushy in your mouth. I'd call and get clarification. I would be hard pressed to be able to stop at 2-3 crackers so I will avoid them even if allowed on my plan. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

    Not losing weight

Hi we should be buddies had my procedure May 26th also, my highest weight was 268 my surgery weight was 250 and I am only at 232 so I have lost only 18 pounds since surgery. I too feel it should be coming off much faster and don't know why everyone else seems to be losing a pound or more a day and I am less than a half a pound a day. I feel I am taking in very few calories and for a whole week I didn't lose anything was feeling quite discouraged myself. I'm sure it's got to come off considering I'm only consuming a fraction of what I used to and my energy level is starting to increase. Was wondering if being post-menopausal has anything to do with me losing weight slower??? But that's a whole nother topic :-) Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App How much Protein are you getting? How about fluids? Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

    Can you have juices?

Try infused water instead. When you juice fruit - you aren't getting the Fiber from the fruit so you end up with a lot of sugars and no benefit of the fiber. fruit juice raises blood sugars quickly as well. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App
  7. I was you...18 years ago! I now add hypertension, sleep apnea, prediabetes, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, arthritis, degenerative disc disease, and a few other obesity related issues to my "problem list". My life could have been much different had I had surgery at 30 years old. I may have been lucky enough to be a mother (something that won't happen now). Do a lot of research, go to an informational session at a Bariatric Center and start changing your eating habits. Most importantly - get therapy for the emotional eating! I saw a psychologist through my Bariatric Program about mine and feel it helped (I'm still pre-surgery). Good luck!

    One Pound Weight Loss :-(

I lost very little during this time too. Take this time to learn how to eat. Get therapy to deal with emotional eating. My NUT and Psych told me not to worry about portion sizes all that much (pre-op). Hell - if I could limit portion size now - I wouldn't need surgery. I eat healthy - high protein/low carb. Prepare as much as possible.

    Product: Kodiak Cakes

"@@Oak Park Lorena" I would be willing to bet that most people who are successful (and maintaining at goal) eat a lower carb diet. In the initial weight loss phase - it's important to focus on protein. Of course you can choose to eat whatever you want but I look to the successful vets for advice.

    Question about Fruit

I would not be concerned with the carbs from fruit. My plan looks at "added sugars" and not naturally occurring sugars. Fruit is recommended on my plan. They suggest having protein with it though. You need to increase your fluids as much as possible.

    My work here is done

Good suggestion. I remember a thread in which vets complained about newbies being "so overly sensitive". Some vets seem to be quite sensitive and easily offended, too, as I have noticed during the last weeks. Sensitive? Nope. Gun shy? Tired of getting called names or accused of being bullies? Yes. Fed up with people coddling others in ways that could be seriously detrimental to their health and their weight loss? Absolutely. Of course, I am only speaking for me. And I'll add it's not only the Vets who are sick of the people crying "bully" or only wanting to be coddled - I'm pre-op and it's pissing me off. I'm not sensitive - I'm annoyed! It's more than just a weight loss/success concern that we have when someone goes so far off plan - it's a health concern - you can cause significant and life threatening complications! Would you coddle an alcoholic who had a drink 5 days post-op a liver transplant because they were "thirsty"???!!!! I am pre-op and have already cut back on my time on this forum. If the vets don't feel comfortable speaking up - why the hell would I even bother to stick around at all.
  15. Not all carbs are created equal. I would not worry about carb content in beans. Be careful of non fat or fat free items - they often have added sugars. Chicken, tuna, fish, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, ricotta cheese, ground beef or turkey (if on your plan), homemade soups (no rice or pasta), refried beans, soft cheese, hummus. Experiment with different foods. Enjoy!

    October Surgery

To prepare - cut out any sodas, sweet tea, etc. Eat protein and produce. Avoid pasta, rice, bread. Use smaller plates. Eat slowly - away from distractions like TV. Mindfully eat - chew well and pay attention. The best thing you can do to prepare is get some therapy/help for emotional eating. You may not realize how much food plays a role in your life.

    Not losing weight

Skip the potatoes for now and when having produce - eat with protein (protein first). You started as a lower weight than many of us so your loss may not be as fast but as I said above - you definitely need more protein.

    Not losing weight

You are not getting enough Protein (at only 40 gms). Try increasing your protein and be sure to get enough no-calorie fluids.

    Post op complications

@@GinaCampbell I am sorry you're having such a difficult time! Do they have any rehab facilities there that maybe you could get some medical care for a few weeks? I think it's time for your Drs to do something more drastic to help you (even if it's a feeding tube temporarily)! Keeping you in my prayers!

    My work here is done

@@Kindle As a newbie/pre-op - it's disappointing that you will not be around to offer your words of wisdom and advice! It's truly a shame that it has come to this - but I don't blame you at all! I didn't read the entire bacon thread but can only imagine the comments and crying "bully"! I don't know what people are thinking eating that early post-op- hungry or not! One day someone is going to cause a serious complication by eating off-plan. Thank you for your help - I always appreciated it and hope you come back at some point.

    Approved

It sounds like all is a go from the insurance standpoint. Just waiting for the surgeon to let office know what pre-op testing I will need. Looks like we are on schedule for a September surgery date. I'm still anxious about it all coming together! ????

    How long?

What diet stage are you on? How much Protein are you getting? What about fluids? What do you eat/drink on a typical day? Are you walking? Surgery is traumatic on your body. You are pumped with fluids, gas and your swollen. All this can effect your weight.
