  1. Can you have protein shakes still? My post-op plan says to eat 5-6 times a day (3 hours in between). If you have about 160 calories each meal that should get you enough calories. I have not been thru surgery yet though so this is only my educated advice and not experience. :-)

I lifted my two year old

Just take it easy - get rest and if the pain worsens or there's anything else of concern, check in with your surgeon. For the next few weeks - let her have the tantrum! ????

I don't think you will have any problems getting approved. Best of luck!
  5. I started seeing a therapist at the beginning stage. That has helped me to stay focused. I often thought "why bother" but realized how much better off I'd be post-op if I worked on making changes now. Now that I'm just waiting for pre-op testing - it's more difficult to stay focused but I go back to the tools provided by therapy. I don't stick to the diet 100% but at least I am now making a conscious decision as to what I eat (where before I ate mindlessly).
  6. Let me start off by saying I am pre-op but haven't had to do a pre-op diet yet. I have had broth before though! I like the packets of broth you add Water to. I think they're in a green box. You can try some canned Soup like beef consume or strained onion soup (just drink broth) or you can make your own broth (or just add spices to box broth). Hang in there! It's wonderful your family is adopting a healthier lifestyle too - that will make it so much easier!
  7. @@provenzee I know it will be difficult to end this relationship - but it's necessary! You will never meet up to his "standards" - and that's because he will always have higher standards - he needs you to have no self-esteem and be "controllable". He won't change - he's abusive and it will only get worse. Kick his ass to the curb and you will be so much better off!!! Congrats on your weight loss success!!! You're beautiful and deserve so much better!!!
  8. I'm sure this was directed towards me... I don't think you have to go through something yourself to offer advice/guidance. You can have knowledge without having to experience. I don't have to have WLS to know that eating chinese food 3 weeks post-op is not a good idea and what could happen to that person. I don't have to be post-op to suggest that someone eat protein first and get enough fluids (and not eat crackers if they're not losing weight). Are we only allowed to comment on a thread when we've had surgery and "lived" through what the person is experiencing? Just because some have gone through surgery - their advice is not always appropriate and some have been downright dangerous! I don't think it's necessary to have gone through WLS surgery to know that you need to rest and not over-do it after surgery (I have had multiple surgeries before) - and no, not everyone "listens to their body". Sorry to "irk" you or anyone else - feel free to hit that block button! I will continue to offer my knowledge and educated advice/guidance regardless of not having surgery yet. I believe I've offered good advice - regardless of not actually experiencing post-op life yet. Again - if it pisses you off - please block me!
  9. @ Assuming weight loss would improve this condition, I don't see why they wouldn't consider it a co-morbidity. Fingers crossed!
  10. @ I would think this would qualify as a sleep disorder. What is the "treatment" recommended?

    Pre-Op Oops

Just get back on track and don't have anything off-plan again. The pre-op diet is important to shrink your liver - making for a safer surgery. It's also a good time to learn how to deal with cravings and emotional eating - as you can't go off plan post-op or you will risk significant complications. Be sure to have your food options handy and prepare for days at work, etc. If you feel like you want to cheat - go for a walk, find a distraction, read a book, color, etc. Stay strong!!!

    Feeling Lost

@@Mel G Take a deep breath! You have to get back on track immediately - eating regular food this early out is extremely dangerous and could cause complications. I know you didn't post to get "scolded" (and that's not my intent) but it's really important that you stick with the plan - more for your health than anything else. Rice especially could cause significant complications with your healing (stapled) stomach. Your emotions will be running high - especially at this stage - your hormones are out of whack. You can't let your emotions win! I strongly encourage you to get some therapy for emotional eating ASAP. You're putting yourself at risk!!! Please get some help!!! Take care of yourself! ~Kristen

    Personal Regrets

@@lezz39 Your hormones are all out of whack from the surgery and weight loss! This will pass - try to stay strong and positive! Get your Protein, Water and Vitamins - get some walking in and you'll feel better!!!
  17. @@byako It's great that you are getting answers to some important questions. I also have PCOS - and wish I had made the decision to have surgery at your age. I too thought I could do it on my own - and I did lose several times - only to gain back even more. I eventually developed hypertension (in my 30's), pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, sleep apnea, depression, joint problems, degenerative disc disease, and other obesity-related problems. It was only a year ago I was still saying I could do it on my own. I couldn't! Sadly, statistics show that only 5% of morbidly obese people who lose weight on their own keep it off. I decided my best chance at living was to have surgery. I pictured myself riding around in a hoveround by my 50th birthday at the rate I was going! :-( PCOS makes it even more difficult to lose weight. If you wish to have children in the future - you increase your odds significantly after WLS (resolves PCOS symptoms). I waited to do something about my weight and won't be having children (which sometimes makes me sad). In terms of what you have to give up - there's not much and you most likely won't miss those things you do need to give up (or at least limit). The only thing I was told I should "never have" was Pasta, rice and bread. I actually think that's over-conservative and I could have them at some point - but even if I can't - I can live with that. Even losing weight on your own - you'll have to give things up - or you won't be successful! Eventually, with the Sleeve, you can eat most all foods - just limited amounts. The pay-off is worth some sacrifice! Good luck in your journey - no matter what you decide! ~Kristen I forgot to add the importance of dealing with emotional eating (regardless of whether you get WLS or not) - I started to see the psychologist at my Bariatric Center to address these issues and found that it helped tremendously (in more aspects than just emotional eating).

    19lbs 1month out

@@Janiegirl1 19 lbs in a month is a great loss! (It calls for dancing in the streets!) Focus on getting all of your Protein and Water, take your Vitamins and up your exercise a little bit (once you're cleared) and you will lose weight. Losing 40lbs a month is unrealistic - so dial down your expectations a bit or you will only be disappointed. The less you eat doesn't mean the more you'll lose - just the opposite actually! Congrats on your weight so far - keep it up!

  20. If one listens to their body, they won't over -do it. Once you have your surgery you will understand. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App @@KristenLe you haven't had your surgery yet? I never would have known- you are doling out advice with the authority of a seasoned vet in every thread I post ! 21. Hi KristenLe - have you had the surgery yet? I would love to find a group in my area. Great suggestion! I'll see if I can search one up!Not yet - waiting for pre-op testing (cleared by Psych and nutrition). I'm hoping for a Sept date. I hope you find a support group - I can't imagine doing this all without help.

    Weight Loss

Try other fluids - broth, tea, sugar free popsicles, infused water. As long as you are eating foods on your plan and getting enough protein- I wouldn't worry about calories.
  23. Call your surgeon. It may just be an irritation from coughing but don't take the chance.
  24. I recommend this book. Also - I saw a psychologist at my Bariatric Center to work in emotional eating (pre-op). They have support groups too. Ask your surgeon about it. https://www.amazon.com/Emotional-First-Aid-Kit-Practical-ebook/dp/B0054RXXS0?ie=UTF8&btkr=1&redirect=true&ref_=dp-kindle-redirect
  25. @@TracyBar Are there any support groups in your area? I think it would be good to hear from others that have been through it. I would speak to someone more objective than the facilitator or her family. Complications are not common but they can happen. If you are fairly healthy to start - and follow your surgeon's guidelines - I wouldn't be overly concerned about complications. This decision of having WLS is so important and you need to be 100% sure (and not only doing this to look better). Good luck on your decision.
