I'm finally seeing a difference in my body! I'm 3 months post-op as of today and I'm down 74 lbs. I'm staring to feel "normal" again and I'm loving it. I took a picture this weekend and was finally able to see some of my progress. We have to Celebrate all along the way!

I been YoYo dieting for so many years. Back in 2009 I was 270lbs. Our company have a family party every year in October. I remember taking that picture and hiding it cause I felt so ashamed at how big I was. I remember I signed up at the gym ymca and went straight for one year. I lost 80 lbs and unfortunately letting my self get back to 253 lbs.
This year when we went to the party another picture was taken and I got my old picture out. I now have it here at my desk at work to remind myself I don't EVER want to be at that weight again. This time I don't see this journey as a diet is all about changing my eating habits and remind myself everyday to see food as fuel.

Lorri716 you are doing awesome!! Did you had any complications? I was one of the very lucky ones!! Only normal gas pain at the beginning, no nauseas, I could eat all lean meats with no complications.

Belgium Guy, twinkles are gross, so you'r not missing anything, my nutritionist also said I could eat whole grain bread and Pasta, I just need to keep under 140 grams in carbs a day. I've lost 100 pounds and kept it off successfully for a year. Ignore the rudeness.

I didn't bread or rice until I was at goal and I don't eat it often. Rice feels weird and I feel too full after bread. Pasta I haven't really gone there.

I always have to laugh when I see newbies say "I eat XX and I'm still losing weight!"
You can eat Twinkies and wash them down with milkshakes the first 6 months to a year and still lose weight.....

I am three two months and a half out, I have lost 50 pounds and was never warned against rice, bread or Pasta... Well I was told to reduce it and eat brown rice and Pasta, and whole grain bread (I hate white bread anyway).
Twice a month I have pasta with salmon, or some rice with vegetables, even sushis (not a lot though). I have the occasional grilled slice of whole grain bread with hummus or cheese (French, Dutch and Belgian cheeses are quite good).
It's weird all the differences I see between my country and the USA. I was never asked to drink Protein shakes, or to stop coffee and tea, and still my weight loss is rather good, around 3 to 4 pounds a week for a month and a half, and I have not yet experienced a stall.

My sentiments and experiences exactly! I have an Occasional scooped out bagel with Turkey bacon as a Breakfast and lunch. Rice is like concrete, and pasta has been only twice since my surgery. I am working on a healthy relationship with food, rather than becoming a calorie count fanatic, just my choice.

You've gotten some pretty good replies here so I will just tell you if I eat rice, bread, and Pasta...No! No! and No!
I am just about six months out and I was thoroughly warned about them. I have no plans to reintroduce them either.

I'm 1 year post-op RNY and for me I've just said "NO"! I haven't had even one bite of bread, Pasta, rice, crackers, chips, etc. I feel it's just garbage and would lead me to a regain. That's just NOT gonna happen!!!

Even at maintenance carbs are a slippery slope for me. When I add them to my diet, I crave them more. We are all adults. Be willing to except your outcome of food choices.

You CAN have whatever you want. The better question is SHOULD you have it. I personally did not have anything like that (high carb, no nutritive value) until I was well below goal.

I've had Pasta, rice, and Bagels sporadically since having the VSG, but they aren't items I buy at the grocery store. I've mainly had them at dinner parties, in small quantities. I had half a bagel with Peanut Butter about three months out while staying in a hotel for a conference for the simplicity of it, and saw no impact on my weight loss. I'd never buy bagels to keep in the house, though. I don't think carb-heavy foods have to be avoided like the plague, but I definitely wouldn't incorporate them into your everyday or even your weekly diet. If you do have them, have some Protein as well.

    Damn right !!!!!!
    Will do.
But, know that I don't break out the grill..............it breaks out me........
No kidding......I freaking love the aroma of wood smoke and charcoal......need that that in my life. Tonight, I laughed at my neighbor and her gas grilling attempts.....laughed......not loud enough for her to hear me, though.......as she was a kindred spirit this afternoon.....grilling on her deck. I waved. She waved back. All was well in my universe. No judgment passed......unless she thought ill of me for burning fossil fuels for my own pleasures.
Both are done with some regularity 'round here.
