  1. So I'm only 8 weeks out but already I know that I needed to put my scale away. I started weighing every 1-3 days. When the weight just fell off I was indifferent about it. But around 3 weeks when I hit the dreaded stall, I nearly screamed when I didn't lose anything for 3 days. Lol. There's tons of research out there that says weighing daily will not give you accurate numbers. I know this. Yet if I don't lose, I will weigh every day until I do. Lol. Watching that scale causes me stress. Stress impedes weight loss. So I put the scale away. The average recommendation is to weigh once every two weeks. I'm at one week right now. But I hope to push it to two weeks & eventually get to where I weigh monthly. I'm working my program, working out every day. I get in my Protein & Water & keep my numbers on track. So no matter what the scale says, I know I'm getting healthier & stronger. I also started measuring myself. Lost 4 inches in my waist even though the scale barely moved the last few weeks. Workout clothes are falling off of me. It's so much more than what the scale tells us. ◡̈ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Had RNY Gastric Bypass last Monday (6 days ago). Everything went great! Went home the following day. Following instructions to the T. But yesterday my pain started increasing especially on my left side. I really hoped I would feel improvement by now but it's actually worse. Dr hasn't been available all weekend of course but went to urgent care last night (which was pointless as the Dr had no clue anything about WLS patients). The nurse told me to go due to the puss that developed under the glue on the incision site but they said its not infected. Anyway, the pain on my left side is constant and kind of feels like when you drink too much then exercise and get those cramps. But when I walk it's even worse. And there's a burning sensation on my lower abdomen (nowhere near incision site). Just wondering if anyone else experienced this? Is it normal? Also having regular diarrhea (sorry tmi) and Dr said it was normal a few days ago but most people are constipated. I sure hope this gets easier soon. I can't even put my socks & shoes on by myself. Lol. I'm hopeful but just so shocked at how bad things still are. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    "Just 62 pounds?"

Your surgeon needs to work on his people skills. But most do. First of all, there's no such thing as what you're supposed to lose by a certain time. Everyone is different. At my 6 week appt they told me that some people lose the majority of their weight in the first 6 months & some take 2 years. But remember, the closer you get to goal weight, the slower the weight loss is. Second: look at what you're doing & see if it needs tweaking. Are you getting your Protein & Water in? Staying under your cal goal? Exercising enough? Are you keeping carbs under 50g? Some programs (including mine) say it's ok to eat whole grain bread & other complex carbs but I stay away from those things completely as they have no nutritional value for us when we are limited to so few calories. (I only get 600 cals per day. There's no way I'm wasting 100 of those on a piece of bread). If you're doing what you're supposed to then you're not a failure. Just keep doing it. 4. Ladies with the pain on the right, what surgery did you have? Is there a big incision on the right? Most of the work they did was on the left. Which is why the biggest incision is there. The pain was mostly from the nerve endings. The back pain is mostly causes from when we over compensate for the pain in the front. We tend to bend forward when in pain so it puts stress on our backs. But I also had back problems pre op. Mostly my back is doing better b/c I'm working out so much. CDiff- no one told me anything about this. I kept telling my surgeon I had diarrhea and he kept saying its normal. But everyone else was constipated. Finally he asked how many times. I was having it like 6-8 times daily so he ran tests. Found CDiff. I thought it was gone after the first round of antibiotics but I started having diarrhea frequently again. So 1.5 weeks ago they ran more tests & I still had CDiff. I'm on vancomycin and that stuff kicked cdiff's butt! I could tell within 4 days as I got my energy back & no diarrhea. In fact, my Iron was low so they put me on iron which makes you constipated so I now have to take Colace & Dulcolax every night. If you have diarrhea more than 3x per day you need to tell them. Post op 3x daily can be normal but if more than that push to get tested. Oh and of course weight loss has slowed since it cleared up. Lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. I'm glad to say that the pain completely subsided at exactly 1 month out from surgery! I had a strange dream about something coming out of my largest incision. Then I woke up & have been pain free (at least in that location-my back is still killing me) ever since. It's kind of crazy how it completely stopped. I can bend over, tie both shoes, lay down & even cross my legs to put on socks with no pain. Hope you all get there soon too. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I'm 3.5 weeks post op and my life has been completely focused on food since surgery. The first two weeks were the worst b/c I had to drink my little 1oz cups every 15 minutes. But now, we still must make sure we get in all of our Protein & Water, not go over 600 calories, keep the carbs low, make sure you eat/drink your protein on time or you'll get hangry. I'm constantly planning what my meals will be for the next day, and for the next phase. I sure hope I'm able to turn the focus off of food sometime soon. It's all consuming. Anyone feel the same? 8. Yep-our program (through Kaiser) says the first 3 months to stay at 400-600 cals. I'm just over 4 weeks and hitting just about 600 daily (today I was at 645). I'm getting my 60-80g Protein (usually closer to 80) in and I was worried about moving up to this phase (soft food-1/2 c meals) and keeping the cals the same. But I'm actually pretty satisfied now that I'm eating solid foods. I work out or walk 6 days a week (but the gym is very mild workout) and get exhausted & sometimes need an extra protein snack so I eat it. My friend had surgery a month before me (she's under the same plan) and had her 2nd follow up & they told her she should still be eating 400-600 cals (she moved up to 600-800 at 6 weeks) but she is just sticking to her 600-800. Idk what I will do. I try to stick to the plan as much as possible but I also listen to my body. Some people eat 1,000 cals at this point: I can't even fathom that much right now. But I would like an extra 100. ◡̈ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Yes, this is what I mean. It's not that I'm trying to obsess over it, I have to. Making sure I get all my protein in at under 600 cals. Then also being aware how long I will be away from home & making sure I'm prepared by bringing my food or Protein Drink (and water) and not allowing myself to get too hungry (low blood sugar, etc). I log my meals the day before so I know I'll get everything in. I don't mind logging, I've done that for years. It's just the constant worry about food. And also I still get that obsessing feeling sometimes if I think about my next meal (like oh yum I can't wait to eat it) but I think that is lessening now that I'm on soft food stage & not as hungry. 10. I'm 29 days out and still have the pain. I can't bend over all the way, have trouble putting on my left shoe, and laying down in bed can still be tricky. I'm going to ask my Dr is pain this bad should happen this far out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. That's a bummer. I don't want to have to keep obsessing over food. I want to live my life. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  14. Last Wed my pain finally started to subside. Today I'm 3 weeks out, 30 lbs down since, and went to the gym for the first time. Boy am I hungry. But other than the hunger, I'm doing well now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. That is exactly what is hurting on me as well. The burning happens worse when I walk. He said its normal. But I don't think this much pain at 16 days out is ok. I'm going to look for compression wear but even pants hurt when I wear them. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. So I saw my surgeon and I have CDiff, a bad bacterial infection. Started antibiotics Friday & still not 100% better but finally seeing less frequency in diarrhea. I asked him if I could do compression wear & he said no b/c it delays healing but so many other Dr's give them out after surgery or recommend them. I'm so tired of this pain that I think I'm going to try one. If I walk early on in the day I'm ok, but sometimes I'm in tears after a walk (like today). The pain is holding me back. 17. You should def go to Dr if it's getting hard. That's one of the signs they told me to watch for as a sign of infection (mine is not hard & surgeon said it looks fine). I see my surgeon Friday. I'm more concerned about the diarrhea and today I felt off balance when I got up so I finally took anti diarrhea meds. So far so good. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  19. Oh good. I'll ask him Friday at my check up. So is it like Spanx or no? I use heating pad at night. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. Did your surgeon ok the compression garments. Being only one week out I'm afraid to do that but that's exactly what I feel like would help b/c when I walk the pain feels better if I hold my arm on my left side. Or even a pillow. Which is what they told me to do when getting up. Roll up a towel and hold it on my tummy with o e arm while I use the other to get up. I use the bariatric pillow the hospital gave us. My pain is actually subsiding today but it is still worse on that side then anywhere else. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I wondered if this might be the case, especially for me (which I hoped not) b/c especially in the am I seemed bothered by my premiere Protein Drink (lactose) so I started changing things to see if it helped. Mixed my Protein powder into cream of wheat, etc. but this morning I woke up with diarrhea again an all I ate for dinner was tomato Soup, SF Jello, tea. It seems the morning is when I have diarrhea. But I will keep the lactose in mind. Maybe drink no lactose today & see if it improves things. My Surgeon contacted me today & said the incision is fine & has me put Neosporin & clean bandage on daily. He also said some of the meds I'm on cause diarrhea & took me off one to see if that helps. I feel much better hearing from him. I'm also feeling much better today overall. Kind of had a breakthrough last night with the pain. I'm hoping it only gets better from here. Here's to getting better every day! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. No drain for me. And the pain subsides when I lay down. I just don't understand. I thought it's supposed to help to walk but I went to Walmart today with my husband & I wish I had my pillow to hold against my left side b/c it was awful. It's almost like I need some compression there. You're only 3 days out Labcop so I would think it's normal. But 5-6 days out like this? I was hoping to be off pain meds by now but I might need a refill. Let's see what my surgeon says tomorrow. I feel bad for my friend. She had the sleeve the same day as me & has had it worse than me. 3 nights in hospital for nausea. Today she sort of blacked out when she stood up. So I feel like I e got it easy compared to her. 23. I'm excited to have gastric bypass on May 2. When he originally gave me that date it felt so dang far away. Now I'm 6 days from it & the stomach nerves are buzzing & I start worrying about the actual surgery (never even had a hospital stay, let alone surgery). But this is the start of my new life-the one I've dreamed about for 30 years. I'm ready, but I'm scared. I'm sure this is normal, but I would love some encouragement & helpful hints from you wonderful & wise surgery vets. TIA. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. Thanks. There are two emails awaiting my surgeon when he gets in tomorrow (including a photo of the incision) and I plan on calling the nurse line first thing when they open in the am. I'm hoping nothing is wrong. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
