Weight loss before surgery
There is no standard. This is a question you need to ask your surgeon. Some don't require any weight loss....other's do. some insurances require a loss and others don't......so you really need to ask your surgeon's office. Good luck to you!!

What am I about to do to myself?
Yes I know exactly what you mean! Just stay focused and keep your eye on the prize!! Good luck to you!

What am I about to do to myself?
Hang in there! What you're feeling now is normal and I think most of us have been where you are.....I can tell you for me, this has been the best decision I've ever made! I haven't had any issues and feel completely normal I just eat less....My surgery was on May 16th.

Fluids
Yes I counted all Fluid towards my fluid intake....water, Protein shakes, broth, Jello....etc. You can always ask your NUT. Some of them say to not combine them, but some of them do....Mine was one that said it was fine to include Protein Shakes, but sometimes you just need to do what you think is right.

@@casenior Good for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Is your BMI over 35 with the new comorbidies?

Everyone's losing weight faster than me
I stick to high Protein for the most part: eggs, tuna, salmon, Greek yogurt, and some veggies. On a not so good say I might add some rice or Pasta. I also have a drink from time to time. How bad do u think that affects weight loss? Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App I'm not sure because like I said everyone is different, but for me if I added any starches like the rice and pasta you mentioned my weight loss would stop completely.....and I don't drink so I can't really say other than the drink is just empty calories. You know yourself better than anyone so do what works best for you. Good luck.

Everyone's losing weight faster than me
@@asweet_sleeve When you say your eating habits are "ok" what exactly do you mean? What are you eating? What does a typical day look like for you? I've always heard that weight loss is 90% diet and about 10% exercise.....So first make sure your diet is where it needs to be. Everyone is different but what works for me is staying very low carb. I keep my carbs below 20 grams a day. I have also heard that folks with revision surgery lose slower.....but I do think we have control over our own weight loss and can certainly help things along. Good luck to you.

Question after reading book rec. by Dr.
It was true for me. It was inserted while I was asleep and removed the next morning no pain or problems with it. My surgery was 5/16/16.

Did UHC Appeals work for you?
@@casenior Ok that may be tough to get approved. Perhaps using all the documentation you had for getting the lap band approved will help. In addition, you may want to check to see if your surgeon can do a "peer to peer" review. That's where your surgeon can argue your case with a physician/medical director on staff with the insurance company. Lots of times those go well, but your physician would have to request it. I hope it works out for you. Keep me informed on how it goes. Good luck!!

Did UHC Appeals work for you?
I wasn't denied but I work in insurance. You need to focus on why they denied you and ensure you provide the information that shows you meet all the requirements.....You should have gotten a letter that states the specific reason/s. So whatever the reason they denied you work on getting together the documentation that shows they shouldn't have. Good luck!

BCBS requirements
I retired from BCBS of Floridia back in September and it not only varies by state it varies by the individual plans....your best bet is to call customer service number on your card and ask them about the coverage criteria for bariatric surgery. Also ask them to mail you a copy.

My journey
So you and I have the same starting weight. My surgery was 5/16/16, so I'm a little less than a month behind you. I also had a hernia repair. Thankfully I didn't have the problems you did. Mine has been really easy....no nausea no issues with food and great weight loss. Good luck to you!

So excited!
It is very exciting when you feel like things are finally moving. Good luck to you!

Did they provide you with an "expected" weight loss
Well actually my surgeon asked me how much I wanted to lose.....I told him and he agreed I should be able to.

Opposite of a stall! yay me!
I am having a great week! The weight is just falling off! Since Sunday I've already lost 5.6 pounds this week and there's still 4 days to go. I had been averaging about a pound and half a week. Here's what I did. I've been eating low carb since my surgery on May 16th......but I decided to get serious and make sure to get into ketosis.....I bought test strips and everything....when I first tested I was in ketosis but not by much so I just buckled down and made sure to get it to the highest level.....and wow what a difference!!! Yay!!!

Concern about surgery
I had my surgery on May 16th.....try not to worry about the pain. Although everyone is different, once I came home I never needed to take any pain meds......Just go into it with a positive attitude. The day of surgery was a little tough, but that was mainly caused by the anesthesia and getting good and awake....Once I was awake it got much better

Slow Weight Loss
What are you eating? Are you avoiding breads and starches? For me what works is staying very low carb.

"She's blushing!"
OK... Dr sent me a new vid to watch talking about open bypass and he has a hiatal hernia, 2 incisional, and 1 umbilical hernia plus a mesh to remove... he had said possibly laprascopic but I think he's decided on open lol... still have 2 more weeks before I find out... Hope Your Day is Great, *Amber* The Starving Mom starvingmom.wordpress.com “I'm not telling you it's going to be easy - I'm telling you it's going to be worth it.” - Art Williams ekkk I would hate the idea of open.....but I'm sure he has a reason for it needing to be done that way. good luck to you.

Abdominal binders. Are they worth it?
Yes the one I used was actually the one my daughter got right after her C-Section. It worked wonderfully! Did it help at all with skin? Hope Your Day is Great, *Amber* The Starving Mom starvingmom.wordpress.com “I'm not telling you it's going to be easy - I'm telling you it's going to be worth it.” - Art Williams I don't know what you mean by helping with skin???....I only wore it for support and pain relief....about two weeks.

@@The Starving Mom Yes they did the hiatal hernia repair at the same time they did the sleeve and both were laprascopic

after soft foods now what?
Here's an example of my day Breakfast = Dannon lite and fit Greek yogurt lunch = half to 3 quarter cup of homemade chili (made with ground turkey, kidney Beans, and bell pepper, and tomato puree and seasoning of course)....that's this week..........some times I have an Atkins frozen dinner, but can only eat a little more than half. Dinner = 3 ounces of Grilled or baked meat (chicken, fish, pork chop) with non starchy veggie. I can usually only take a bite or two of the veggie If I'm hungry after dinner or need more Protein I may have another yogurt... As far as Water I drink water all day....on average about 80 ounces. I don't drink any Protein shakes.

Alcohol
For the most part I don't usually comment on these "alcohol" post, because quite frankly I just don't get it. I've never been a drinker but maybe once in a great while.....and I really mean a "great while".....I haven't had a drink in well over 2 years....haha I'm not against drinking it just doesn't take drinking in order for me to enjoy myself.....I have no problem turning down alcohol when I'm out with friends or at a party....once I get to my goal weight I'll go back to the way I used to be....once in a "great while" I may have a mixed drink....but while I'm in the weight loss phase it is not even a consideration! I have a hard time understanding people who have gone to the extreme of having most of their stomach surgically removed in order to lose weight and within a very short period of time begin drinking completely empty calories....I just can't wrap my head around that. I'm sure folks think "of course she doesn't understand. She's not a drinker.".....But I relate this to me like this; prior to surgery I loved loved Cookies and ice cream! But after letting the surgeon remove most of my stomach because I was so desperate to lose weight I would not even take a small bite of a cookie or ice cream while I'm in the weight loss phase!...but I guess that's just me. I'm also a believer in do whatever you feel is best for you....so if that includes drinking alcohol, more power to you. Good luck I wish you all the best.

Anybody struggling?
Stress is a terrible thing.....but it's also time for you to work to get a handle on your eating issues. Reach out to your bariatric team....your NUT or a counselor.....someone. You know what you're doing wrong.....now do what it takes to get it under control. Good luck!
