  1. Treat your new stomach like a baby... I used the medicine cups 30 cc to start off with... their is no way you will get 64 oz and 60-80 grams Protein in that 1st week post op... I was lucky to get 20 oz that first day... you have to build up to it... gas strips , nexium and walking were my BFF... I didn't worry about Protein Shakes until day 3... just watch the dehydration...the for reading.

  2. Try your sugar free popsicles, make flavored crushed ice with fav Crystal lite... slushie from Hawaii punch flavors sugar free...

Weight loss so far average 7 lbs a week since this is your 5th week... this is not an overnight process.... also down the road the weight loss will slow down to a trickle... and at times you will experience stalls...but this tool is the best gift I have given myself... I'm 5 mos post op, I loss about and average 1-2 lbs a week... 52 lb loss so far... good luck with your journey...

  3. I'm 9 days post op today. 20 pounds down in all (which is including my pre op diet). But I'm having I really hard time keeping my Protein down. I'm getting my 64 oz of fluids in without a problem but the Protein makes me sick. I MAY get in 30 grams a day. I've tried Matrix, premiere protein and a few others. Is any one else having this problem? I am worried to death over not getting enough in.

    Thanks!!

Please DON'T worry to death about the protein requirement... I'm 5 mos post op... your sleeve is still healing at day 21-30... I know all the NUT can scare you that you will die if you don't get 60-80 grams daily... , I'm here to testify you won't drop dead cause your 20-30grams short...you have to work up to it daily.... it's good your getting in your fluids no problem, dehydration is the biggest concern... don't stress each day you will get more and more protein... I started using fuzzy naval protein w crystal lite, or cherry cherry protein w Hawaiian punch sugar free... that 46 Proteins right there... good luck on your journey

  5. Yeah the Water intake is so hard.... I can on good day get 6 cups of water... Protein has been 50-60, I need to get those Protein shakes back in my life with syntrex nectar& lactose free milk instant 31 grams ... those shakes were my "get out of jail card" for meeting Protein goals 75-80 grams... and Protein Bars are not safe either... high carbs, high fats and made with whey concentrate not whey isolate...

Before vsg I was constantly thinking of food....now I don't seem to think of it that much but I need to be able to eat healthy... go from one extreme to another...

Also soft would be my guess.

  7. I'm 5 weeks out. I eat raw red peppers, yellow peppers and cukes with hummus. Not big on the salad yet. I avoid all bread, Pasta, rice, and sweets thus far. I do eat popcorn sometimes. chicken, fish, 1 egg omelet (at work). salad, like someone else said, is hard to digest and doesn't have Protein. It's always best to talk to your team. I had asked about popcorn on this site and got various remarks. Some don't eat until 6 months out. Some think it takes that long to heal inside but on my month check up, they told me I am healed and already have scar tissue forming around the incision on the inside. I told her what I was told about popcorn getting stuck in my staples and she chuckled and assured me that wouldn't happen. That's the only "bad carb" I eat and I don't eat it daily. My month check up I had dropped 29 pounds and she said I was doing great and cleared me to eat and do what I want but to make sure I try new things (food) carefully. It's amazing how many different opinions there are out there. My surgeon has been around a while and he specializes in WLS, he has a great rep so I don't question their advice.

Good things come to good people.

Your sleeve must have been reinforced with steel.... popcorn??? Amazing

  8. I measure mine out so I know I'm drinking enough fluids. Once I drink 20oZ I move to my next 20... Seeing 64oz at one time can feel overwhelming when your can't take much in at a time.

  11. My surgery WAS a secret. Made the mistake of telling a few co workers. I left work yesterday for surgery on Monday and found out one of them told the whole office! Out of respect one of them called me to let me know. She preceded to tell me how most of them felt I wasn't fat. And they didn't understand why I'm having it??? I'm 5'3, 230 lbs...clearly over weight. Just trying to stay positive for Monday. This pre-op diet is horrible. I slipped and had a piece of turkey yesterday. I was soooo hungry and not to mention upset. Monday can't come fast enough!

  12. Hi everyone! I just joined this forum. I am awaiting my new patient appointment so I can have the sleeve surgery done. Is this liquid diet you're talking about called Optifast?

This 2 week liquid diet (right before surgery) is very specific to your surgeons recommendations for liver shrinkage... it's mostly composed of drinking Protein shakes( a brand selected by your bariactric team) along with provider/NUT specific foods that are extremely low fat, no/low carbs, no/low sugars... it's sends your body into ketosis... this is to assist in liver shrinkage so the lap trocars/scopes can maneuver easy w/out damage to surrounding internal strutures...

It's hard the 1st couple days, but gets less difficult each day... heck I survived it...lol ( i should get a t-shirt made with "I survived my 2 week pre-op diet w/out killing anyone..." lol

  13. I'm only on day one . Did anyone have headaches or feel more tired at nighttime ( earlier than they usually would at night . I feel like this two week diet is going to be so hard .

I felt like i was homicidal day 2-3... but too tired to do anything... having weird dreams or an epiphany, then by day 6 it was the calm after the storm... I survived 2 bday parties, 1 baby shower and a wedding reception during that 2 wk span... after I woke from surgery i ask M.D. "did my liver shrink?" He said said No, not significantly...

  14. So after telling me that she received my FMLA info from Personnel she leaned down and whispered "what are you having surgery for?" I paused then said, "Im sorry I don't want to give that info" Even when I initially told her that I was having surgery, I specifically asked her to not give that info out.

I felt SO weird saying that because I did want to tell her but I couldn't.. WHY? because she is friends with another girl in our office Im having issues with. I avoid drama with this girl at all cost, so even though I feel I have a good relationship with my sup, I watch the things that I tell her about my personal life. Why do I feel so bad though!!!

No one else my office knows except a close friend whom I trust a little more.

I should also mention that she is 6-7 yrs younger than me and we both have 2 boys so we talk a lot but this is one thing that I am not being open about.

I concur w/ you... besides if you have a Union at your job they would tell her that she is not allow to ask you...don't feel bad.
