Annoying as the gurgling is, be reassured that the plumbing is working.

You can join my bath tub party :)

  2. Waited too long to eat, so now I'm STARVING. But of course, it'll only take 2 bites to fill me up.

  3. So I've decided to review a lot of the foods I'm trying as I adjust to this bariatric lifestyle - here's my roundup of a few protein bars I've tried: http://becomingmandikaye.com/2016/08/02/protein-bar-round-up-1-review/

  4. I just finished binge watching BSG and now I feel sad and empty. *sigh* That show did a number on me.

Battlestar Galactica. It ended sad, and I prefer happy endings.

I'll have to put it in my queue! are you a Star Trek fan also? Did you see Beyond ?

@finding_onederland - I am! But I haven't seen Beyond yet. It's on my list though. I'm trying to decide if I should watch DS9 or Enterprise next.

  5. I am 4 pounds from the lowest weight I can remember being in over a decade! 23 more pounds til onederland!

  6. Today was such a good day, food-wise. Yay!

  7. Here's my TMI status for the day: Why does my body wait until I get to work (well after weighing in) to poop now? *sigh*

I always imagine that cupcakes in the kitchen are tainted with something. :)

  9. Bah humbug. I made chili for dinner and ate just a smidge too much.

Too much spice or just too much volume? Hurt when you "hit the wall", doesn't it? Sorry, friend.

    3. becomingmandikaye

      becomingmandikaye

Just volume. It was a pretty miserable half hour or so until it all managed to go down! I will say that I haven't had any issues with spicy food (yet). Which is good, because I do like some spice (but nothing too crazy).

    4. MrsSugarbabe

      MrsSugarbabe

Bah humbug is right! There are still times when I eat 1 or 2 bites too many and regret it. Problem is, once you've eaten it, you can't take it back. That very uncomfortable feeling for awhile afterwards is just that - very uncomfortable. I've been fortunate, too, that spicy food hasn't been a problem nor have my tastes changes post-surgery.

  10. Not to jump on that bacon trainwreck... but that new Al Fresco chicken bacon is REALLY GOOD.

That's my expectation of most, if not all, of the substitutes, additives and inhumane supplement-type products.

    2. becomingmandikaye

      becomingmandikaye

My body is accustomed to processed foods, so substitutes and additives don't generally bother me at all. It's just very strange. I have always had an iron stomach, and I've retched more in the last month than I have in the last decade! Thank goodness it never became actual vomiting though.

  12. Who would've thunk that a teeny 2oz hamburger patty would be nearly too much food for me!

    1. Daisee68

      Daisee68

Isn't that amazing? At 1 year post-op, I still have difficulty with too much beef. It is tougher to digest it seems.

    2. KindaFamiliar

      KindaFamiliar

I'm nearly 18 months post-op and have only just added red meat back into my diet to any degree...

And yes, a small patty (3.5 ounces) and a few sweet potato chips fills me...

I do love my continued restriction!!!

    3. becomingmandikaye

      becomingmandikaye

I am definitely a red meat kind of girl. I can't have steak until September, and that just makes me sad! I hate seafood, but I'm adding a lot of it to my diet - I'm trying to get as much protein as possible from my food instead of having to do powder, shakes, or other protein drinks. I haven't yet had a day where all of my protein came from my food - but I'll get there!

  13. What's your favorite protein coffee recipe?

    1. WLSResources/ClothingExch

      WLSResources/ClothingExch

What's "protein coffee", please? Is it a forever thing or just for a time post-surgery?

    2. becomingmandikaye

      becomingmandikaye

It can be both. A lot of folks drink coffee for breakfast, so they add protein to it to make sure they hit their macros for the day. Some people mix a vanilla premier protein shake with a large black coffee, for example.

    3. WLSResources/ClothingExch

      WLSResources/ClothingExch

Thanks for the clarification. If I revise to sleeve, I either want to know that I won't have to live with fake protein forever or at least have time to get used to the idea as a trade-off. The idea thus far is too dismal for me. I expect I'd feel other than human.

  14. Why is "see a therapist" the answer to everything for some people? I mean, there's nothing wrong with seeing a therapist, but it's not the end all be all to life.

IDK, it usually does not work for me. It CAN help to speak your problems out loud, instead of ruminating in your head around and around on a hamster wheel! It breaks the patterns. I did get help when I consulted with Kim Saeed of the Let the Reach FB site. She is not a counselor, per se, but her website and advice for those in/getting out of narcissistic relationships is the bomb, And our one hour conversation helped me tremendously. I go on about her, because it is the only time I can remember a counseling session being worth it. I am with WLR Resources, maybe those people who make that advice maybe have never HAD counseling! But, yeah..it can help the rumination wheel in your head..can :)

  15. Hallelujah! I just got cleared to switch to regular vitamins instead of chewables!

How'd it feel to be in the water? Sometimes I think I should have been born with gills because I feel so "at home" in the water. Wait! Does that make me a "sea witch"??. Hmmm--something new to ponder... It sounded like you had a wonderful day. I'm think'n you have plenty more com'n your way, my friend. :)

    2. becomingmandikaye

      becomingmandikaye

It was so lovely. I fell asleep for awhile on a float! I was a bit concerned about my incisions because not all of the scabs have fallen off, but the doc said 3 weeks and it's been almost 4. Incisions are fine. :) I'm not quite at home in the water as it sounds like you are, but I certainly don't mind spending afternoons floating around, listening to music, and reading a good book!

aaaawwww jeeeezzzz. :) Sometimes encouragement is easy--like with you. Sometimes--with some folks it's not so easy, but support is always available. One just has to "wanna". :)

Well, I haven't complained about my stall yet. ;)

    4. Valentina

      Valentina

I hate that "embrace the stall" stuff. I always feel like hitting the member that tells me that over the head with my scales! :) Is there anything more frustrating than a stall? Don't think so. I TRY to think of it as my body trying to catch up with my nutrition. It always does, but jeez----like the momma tomato whose little one was lagging?? She whacked him over the head and say, "There! Now you ketchup"! :) I know--really bad. :):)

  18. I'm not sure I can stand another day taking these chewable Flintstones vitamins...

You don't have to use a bariatric specific vitamin. I use an Adult Multi-Vitamin from Puritan's Pride that are chewable and the taste is not horrible (strawberry/banana). The vitamin has everything required after bariatric surgery, but is just an Adult Multi. I just had blood work done and all my levels are fine.

You can't take iron and zinc together though, they work against each other. so a multivitamin with both isn't a good formula. zinc inhibits the absorption of iron. you have to take them at least 2 hours apart. I take my iron as a totally different supplement at the end of the day. Your doctor didn't give you a schedule to take your vitamins and explain why you can't take certain vitamins together? Like you can't take calcium with iron either.

    4. becomingmandikaye

      becomingmandikaye

My doctor's directions specifically told me to find a multi-vitamin that had certain levels of folic acid, iron, and zinc in it. And that I couldn't take iron and calcium together.

I checked out your blog. Our stats are very similar so you will be a nice benchmark for me (I don't have a surgery date yet)! I hope your dreaded stall does not last long!

    2. becomingmandikaye

      becomingmandikaye

Thanks! I hope so too. I'm itching to get below 218 because that's the lowest number I've seen in YEARS! It'll come - I just have to be patient. :) I hope you get your surgery date soon!

  20. Gotta love it when the hospital has to refund you $ because they made you pay too much for a procedure. Of course... that refund went towards the hospital stay, but so what?
