  1. I just need a place to vent for a minute. When I met with the surgeon, he told me that a surgery date in June should be no problem. He also said that since the endoscopy he requires isn't an insurance requirement, they would go ahead and submit and approve as soon as I finished the requirements and then would worry about the endoscopy. I finished all my reqs on Monday. I called on Tuesday just to verify the next steps (I wasn't sure if they would automatically schedule or if I needed to call). They went ahead and scheduled my endoscopy that day and told me that the nurse would verify I cleared all reqs and then call and schedule me for surgery. *waits* I called back today just to find out where I was in the process since I hadn't heard anything - and they were holding my paperwork until after the endoscopy (which is on June 6th!). Somewhere some wires got crossed. She said she'd confirm with the surgeon that we could schedule prior to the endoscopy (she said he sometimes tells people that but it isn't standard) and then she'd get the nurse to check my paperwork and clear me. I know I shouldn't be quite so frustrated - it's only been a week - but my expectations were high after talking to them. Every day that passes is a day that means I may not be able to be scheduled in June, and because of work that's the best time for me to take the time off. Okay, /rant.

    Frustrated - Mini Rant

I actually called her back and apologized for being rude. It wasn't *her* fault at all, and I took a bit of my frustration out on her.

    Instagram

Mine is becomingmandikaye I haven't posted anything yet... I wasn't thinking when I registered and clicked the "register with facebook" button so it would go faster. And it told every single one of my FB friends that I joined IG! Whoops. I hadn't planned to broadcast the surgery...

It's amazing the difference 6 months can make!

Love your hair! I'm actually planning to do something similar after my surgery. I want a drastic haircut when I go back to work so folks will be looking at that and thinking that's why I look different!
  5. Last night I tried to dye my teal hair brown... but the shade was just a smidge too light. My hair is puke green today.

      Miss Mac

I feel ya. I have been dying my hair reddish-blonde for twenty years, trying to keep ahead of natural red going old lady white. Last time, I tried a darker shade of red since the white is not taking color anymore. Well, it was tooooo red, so I went with a blonde color closer to the shade of my eyebrows. Some went blonde, some stayed white, and large streaks went PINK. Oddly though, I don't hate it.

    Dreaming... about clothes

    @@teshadb Love it!!
  7. This forum has been invaluable to me in my research. I joined somewhat on the fence about what to do, and am now very firmly happy with my decision to move forward with the sleeve. I also devoured every youtube video and blog post I could find from folks who have experienced WLS. I hope that you end up happy with whatever decision you make!

  9. Struggling with this whole eating slowly thing.

18 months out and I still struggle with that. The funny thing is I was always the slowest eater in any group so go figure!

    Pre- Pre-op diet

My NUT suggested I start eating between 1200 and 1500 calories per day, which is a pretty big change from what I've been doing lately. Today is Day 1, and I'm having a hard time tonight. Some of it is pure physical hunger, most of it is head hunger - literally! Do you ever get a hunger headache and know it's from "hunger" because it feels different than a normal headache? It's like a food withdrawal headache. I'm definitely struggling with that kind of hunger tonight, and it's taking everything I have not to go eat all of the carbs in the house (wait - is carb withdrawal a thing?). *sigh* I can do this. I can do this. I can do this.

    Anyone tried Quark?

I finally tried it - two flavors. It's better than yogurt (which I hate), but still not great. The sweetener they use (Erythritol) has a very distinct "diet" flavor, if that makes sense. Though adding fresh strawberries to the strawberry flavor helped a lot! I also threw the red velvet one in the freezer to see if eating it frozen will help.
  13. Mine's scheduled for June 6th, and I'm nervous about it too! People keep telling me I'm weird for being more nervous about the endoscopy than the surgery... but I've never had one before, while I've had surgery! I'm choosing to believe that everyone is right, and I won't even know what's happening until it's over.

    Dreaming... about clothes

I'm about add about 100 dresses to mine... I love love love dresses, but I feel like I'm too fat to wear them (my shape makes me look very pregnant). I can't wait until my tummy is smaller and I can wear them! I may never wear pants again!

    NSV! [emoji2]

    That's amazing! Congratulations
  17. I'm going to apologize in advance for the ramblingness of this post! I've got so much going on in my head right now, so I figured I'd just throw it all out there at once... 1) Is it normal that the NUT who clears you for surgery isn't the one you'll do all of your pre- and post-op appointments with? I won't see the woman I met with yesterday until 3 months after surgery. 2) Why are distractions while eating bad? She was VERY against me eating while watching TV, but she never told me why. I live alone and have never (nor have any plans to) set my dining room table for one and sat there eating alone. 3) Have any of you had a NUT recommend Boost over Premier Protein? There are so many more calories in Boost that I want to run far far from it. But she was very concerned that I wouldn't get enough calories after surgery (she even suggested I don't drink the Zero Carb Isopure drinks because they don't have enough calories... even though they have the same as Premier Protein). 4) Is it normal for me to feel like I don't have anything concrete to go on at this stage? I've only been to the consultations, and suggestions about diet were given to me, but I have no specific plan to follow and no goal to meet. Will those come later after final approval and a date is set? I think that's all... for now.

Musings & Questions - mostly nutrition related

That's a good question... I'm not sure where I put her card, but she definitely called herself a dietician. I wasn't super impressed with her, but the one I'll do all of the "classes" with was raved about by my surgeon and his other folks. So I'm hoping I have a better experience with her!

    Pre- Pre-op diet

Here's what I've had today (the evening snack is planned for later): http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/diary/mandikaye Both options she gave me (1200 and 1500 calories) had 2 Protein shake "meal replacements" in them, which is why I'm doing those. I'm used to eating fast food 2+ meals per day, so I think my body is just angry at me for the change.

    Introduction Post

Welcome! I'm also hoping to have a surgery date in June. I finished my pre-op reqs yesterday (NUT and psych), so now I'm just waiting for approval and a date. Maybe we'll be surgery buddies!

    Isopure zero carb flavours

The only flavor I've gotten so far is Grape Frost, and it's not bad. I was pleasantly surprised by it, but now I'm very excited to try some of the other flavors. It's not super sweet. There is a brief after taste, but it leaves you quickly (I didn't need to drink anything after it for the after taste to go away).
  25. Cleared by NUT and psych! Now the waiting for insurance approval begins...
