    Blogging about my journey

I decided to go semi-public and actually blog about my decision and journey. Writing it down is the best way for me to process my thoughts and emotions, and I just couldn't not do it. Though it doesn't auto post to FB or Twitter or anything like that, so it's internet public, but not real life public. http://becomingmandikaye.com/

    Blogging about my journey

I'm going to do both - but probably far fewer videos than posts!

  6. Poll time! Do you prefer Torani or DaVinci SF Syrups?

I didn't like the Torani so I haven't attempted another SF syrup.

    Calling all June '16 sleevers!

The World According to Eggface also has TONS of Protein shake recipes that sound super yummy and way better than just Protein powder mixed with Water. https://www.pinterest.com/eggface/protein-shakes-and-smoothies/

    Calling all June '16 sleevers!

My favorite ready to drink shake (so far) is Premier Protein in chocolate. It's also delicious if mixed with a bit of cold brew coffee concentrate. I'm making my way through some Syntrax nectar samples, and so far I've discovered that mixing vanilla with fuzzy navel in milk with a few ice cubes blended in is pretty amazing. (Conversely, Unjury's strawberry Sorbet is disgusting) I also don't mind the Isopure Zero Carb drink in Grape or Alpine Punch

What Kind of Scale do you Have? Do you like it?

I use the Withings scale - I got it mostly because it connects to my wifi and updates both Fitbit and MFP with my progress. It also shows BMI and the weather for the day (which is super helpful for me since sometimes I have no idea it's raining outside until I open the door to leave for work).

    Social Isolation

It's important to note that there is a big difference between being an introvert and being socially isolated. I am an introvert. What that means is I need to recharge in solitude, not live in solitude. Healthy introverts still have friends and are social. They don't live in isolation or seclusion. I think that's the kind "social isolation" being discussed here. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    Social Isolation

I believe it. As someone who has struggled with severe depression and living a hermit-ish life... I absolutely believe it.
  13. TIL: Mixing Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel with Vanilla Bean Torte with milk and ice is an absolutely delicious protein shake.

  14. Grr. I read a recipe the other day using vanilla and fuzzy navel Syntrax Nectar (to taste like an orange julius) and now I can't find it! Grrr.

      Daisee68

I don't know that recipe exactly but I make a similar one which is 1 package of Orange Crush powder (find it by the Crystal Light). Mixed with 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder, 1 to 2 oz of banana, 2 oz fairlife milk, 4 to 6 oz of water and 4 or 5 ice cubes. Hope that helps!

Google Syntrax Nectar. They'll have the recipe. Good luck. Sounds Yummy!

Trust me, I've been googling up a storm! I haven't found the exact one, but several that are similar. I'll play with it until I find what I like!

    Lots of Questions!

I am also on a state health plan through BCBS (NC), and it does cover it. The best thing to do in every case is call and ask.

Wow! Congratulations, and a huge good luck! You can totally do this.
  17. Why do people get so upset and indignant if a sleever calls it a pouch? We all know what they mean...

    1. MissMac

      MissMac

It is probably like how we call all tissues "Kleenex". The pouch and the sleeve result from different surgical procedures, but it's all bariatric surgery. The sleeve is more like a tube. Oh well, it is another one of those debates that won't stop the world from turning.

      WLSResources/ClothingExch

Maybe, as a friend's Irish aunt would have said, "They have little to do." On the other hand, we all don't necessarily know. To me, "pouch" is from the lapband lexicon.

  18. Has anyone else had trouble finding Vitamins with the exact specifications your surgeon tells you to take? I'm supposed to take a chewable or liquid Multivitamin that has 400mcg Folic Acid, 15mg Zinc, and 18mg Iron. And then I'm supposed to take a double dose. All of the chewables I'm finding have already doubled up on the Folic Acid, but the Zinc and Iron are too low! Should I just supplement the iron?

    Trouble finding vitamins?

Oh dear... I tried a sample of Celebrate Vitamins multivitamin (in Pineapple Strawberry) and it was AWFUL. Do all chewable vitamins taste that bad?

    UNC or Duke for surgery?

I didn't know about it until just now! I think I might be able to come.

    New date of May 25th!

Oh lord, if they come back and tell me my date was "tentative" I'm going to hurt someone!

    UNC or Duke for surgery?

Well here's the scary part. I'm not approved yet. They won't submit it to insurance until after I have the endoscopy (required by the doctor, not my insurance). I pushed them for a surgery date because I really wanted my surgery in June (it's easier to take time off work then, rather than later in the summer). Here's my timeline so far: April 28 - surgery consultation May 2 - NUT and psych consultations (and that's the end of my insurance requirements). May 3 - called to find out what the timeline would be since I completed insurance reqs, they scheduled my endoscopy for June 6 (Dr. Yoo only performs these one Monday per month). May 6 - called back because I hadn't heard anything about a surgery date - that's when they told me they wouldn't schedule it until after the endoscopy. May 10 - they called to ask why I was pushing for a June date, concerned it was an issue with my insurance changing. I assured them it wasn't, it was just my preference and I had discussed it with Dr. Yoo (even though he didn't remember it) May 16 - They called and gave me my pre-op and surgery dates. Upcoming: June 6 - endoscopy ***this is where I get twitchy - they told my my insurance has a 48 hour turnaround, so I'm trusting them*** June 9 - Pre-op June 15 - surgery

The chewables from Celebrate Vitamins have it.
