  1. I'm 13 months post op, and just found out that I am pregnant with my 2nd child, my daughter is 3, and so its been a while a little while since I went through this. But my first pregnancy I gained like 60 lbs. Alot of it was due to me stopping work when I was 4 months. And my husband was so scared of me doing anything so I pretty much ate and sat about near the rest of my pregnancy term. I know what I have to do this time as far as being more active. I'm just scared of getting a bunch of weight again and the surgery going to waste. Can anyone who has been through this similar situation as far as pregnancy this early post operation, giving me any pointers on gaining the minimal amount of weight with still being healthy. I cannot get that big again.

Side note: I also have only lost 60 lbs since surgery (I know, not that much huh??)...(68 lbs including preop diet)

  2. Yes! I'm 15 weeks post op and I'm still very fatiguedy. I expected to have a lot of energy and I just run out of fuel. I'm better than I was after a month and after 2 months but I'm so frustrated. I'm deficient in Iron and Vitamin D. My surgeon doubled my Iron and started me on 2000 international units of Vitamin D. No change after a week. My Nutritionist told me to stay at 60g of Protein (I'm 5'2") and to increase my carbs but she didn't give me a range on carbs. A man in my monthly support group meetings said he didn't get energy until his 6 month anniversary. Both my surgeon and my Primary tell me to be patient (post op MAJOR surgery) so I'll be patient. It's extremely frustrating. A friend told me she experienced fatigue while on the Atkins diet (high Protein, very low carb). Maybe some of us need more carbs?

I'm waiting on my lab results but this is me to the T, I will be 5 months post op on August 7, and I'm still fatigued. At one point I felt like I was doing good, but it's like I reverted back to having no energy whatsoever, after a while.

  3. I've got the nexplanon (implant) and I love it! Before surgery I was on the pill but worried about after surgery and being able to swallow pills and absorption so I got the nexplanon inserted about two months prior to surgery. My first period after surgery dragged on for weeks! It was nuts. The first week of my period I had bad cramping but after that it was just an annoyance to have to deal with.

Hey @@alishams86, I too have the nexplanon implant (this year in November will be my 3 year mark), but I was wondering if you have been noticing significant weight loss with it? I'm losing weight but not as fast as I thought being a bypass patient (and compared to others). I also felt like the implant had alot to do with my weight gain prior to surgery and after having my first child, but I have kept it because I like it's convenience and I just said I would work at trying to eat better and being more active. With that being said, have you noticed any weight changes or are you losing weight at a slower pace, or is it just me?

  4. I really really like Balanced Essentials (by Heaven Sent Naturals at Vitamin World) and my second choice is Alive liquid. They both taste amazing...almost like juice and they are packed with so many vital nutrients, way more than you get in ANY chewable. I tried several chewables and unless they cost a fortune, they are gross and don't have but like 22 Vitamins in them anyway! Balanced Essentials has something like 35 Vitamins and 60 nutrients (trick your body in to thinking you live and eat from a garden all day long). It makes a heck of a difference, I wouldn't lie to you. You won't need any other supplement using this...not even Biotin for your hair. This has made my hair really strong and thick, the only thing Biotin did was keep my hair from falling out. Whatever is in this bottle makes my hair, skin and finger nails look better than they have in years.

Hey I know this is an old post, but chose balanced essentials based on the help of the consultant at Vitamin world along with your post...but i was wondering do you take the recommended dose of balanced essentials or double due to the amounts we bariatric patients need?

  5. I'm feeling down and depressed. Mainly due due to the changes and because I'm seeing other bypass' and even sleever's progress, and seeing how they have lost 30, 40 lbs 2 months post op. And I'm over her at just 23 lbs down (since day of surgery) at two months post op, and it seems I have hit a stall on top of that. What is wrong with me? What do I need to incorporate more that I'm not doing.

  6. So I am 54 days post op, and I have been having these sharp pains on and off all day. I'm thinking it's related to the late night parfair I grabbed on the way back from a 3 hour trip from my in-laws over memorial day weekend. It was late and I had a dumping (vomiting) episode earlier on Monday from (trying out) 2 bites of steak and it not digesting well, and eating other food on top of the non digested steak bits. So since this morning with the sharp pains I kept running to the bathroom thinking I had to BM (sorry to be gross), so I went once, then a few hours later went again, with diarrhea (sorry again), and it was a little bloody. Now I'm like did I ef up something, or is this not unusual? I believe it might be parfait related, bc since then my stomach began cramping up. I didn't eat but a few bites of it due to the cramps and just to have something on my stomach from vomiting all of my food up earlier. Am I going to be ok, or am I being a hypochondriac. I'm still cramping btw and it's been almost 24 hours since the parfait.

  7. I experienced the same thing, I took my Bariatric Advantage Vitamins the next day from coming home, which was like 2 in half days post op and I also dumped (without throwing up)really bad. After that I just held off taking my Vitamins for a couple of weeks. I guess my body wasn't ready to take in the sugar, and I figured it was like eating too soon even tho they are rather small in comparison to a meal. I talked to my surgeon about it and he said he wouldn't expect me to take them so soon. I wished he would've told me that at the hospital.

  8. I had cramping followed by diarrhea after RNY surgery. I became lactose intolerant. Anytime I consumed milk or anything else that contained lactose (some Protein drinks contain lactose), I had an immediate problem. This condition went away after a couple months.

Yea I considered that being that I am lactose intolerant to milk, but like I said it's even with Water alot of times. Do I just let it ride out or maybe get some lactose intolerant supplement? Or are there any ready made Protein shakes made with soy?

  9. Watch for sugar content in the shakes. Kellogg shakes have 18gms of sugar with only 10gms Protein. Way too high in sugar. You have to read labels. I bought some Protein Water that wasn't too bad - no fat or sugar. 9gms protein so you'd need to drink more.

Oh wow didn't know they had that much sugar. I never looked into them I just seen them on the shelve at Walmart. I think I will try the protein Water if I can find that at walmart today. Thanks

  10. Ugh I feel the same way! The premiere Protein shakes are gross to me now. Like I had my last one day before yesterday the taste of it just got really eggy/milky like. I hate it too because I bought a bunch...what other Protein Shakes can i try. I was thinking pure Protein or Kellogg shakes even tho I would have to drink more to get in the right amount of protein. Idk. I just don't want another Premier Protein. It was good for the preop and a little bit of post of but now I need something else. Sorry to seem like I'm complaining, I am just a little frustrated because I want food. Lol

  11. So I am 6 days post op and have mainly just been drinking regular premiere Protein Shakes here and then when I can consume them. But today I decided to put a handful of frozen fruit (bananas, strawberries, pineapples) in my magic bullet along with 4 cubes of ice and the Premier Protein shake (already made). I'm about nearly done with, all of it made about a 16 oz cup. So my question is should I be able to consume all of this 6 days post in one sitting (30 minutes)? Also was it ok that I decided to add fruit this early on in a 2 week liquid diet?

I also forgot to mention that I had over a 1/4 left in the magic bullet that I didn't drink and I'm full.

  12. Hello! Good morning. I truly feel like the RNY is the right surgery for me. I've done so much research and am confident in my decision. My center is pushing the Sleeve, though. One of the reasons is because of my age. I am 29. I will be nearly 30 when I have the surgery. I know there are many others my age that have had the bypass. My doctor has said that I'm healthy enough for bypass, but that he recommends all of his younger patients to have the less invasive surgery. Did anyone go against their surgeon's recommendation to have bypass?

I was one who chose adversely to the sleeve which my surgeon recommended at our initial consultation. He did so due to my age as well and based off of him not knowing a few details about me. But I did research and also have a mother who had the bypass over 15 years ago and was and has still been successful with it. I chose it bc I love sweets and feel the need to have them often. I also didn't really eat alot before I just ate the wrong things bc that's kinda how I was brought up, eating more of the yummy ribs, baked mac'n'cheese, cubed steak and things rather than healthy. The RNY has one of the best features for that which is the dumping syndrome. So I have not choice now but to ear right or I will get extremely sick. I believe the sleeve can have that effect too but no other like the RNY. I forgot to mention after my surgeon suggested the sleeve, I had blood work done and they determined I was .5 away from being diabetic (my A1C was 6.0) and only the RNY cures diabetes.
