@@daizymom why so long?? Insurance requirements? Glad you have an April orientation--at least you know you're starting the process. Guess I shouldn't complain about waiting if your process is going to take 6 mo to a year!

Just returned from my psych consult--very odd Dr, but it's over & one more step on my journey is done!! Surgery consult is April 5th..and of course I'm like a little kid waiting for Christmas!!
At the consult he said "well, you're a little overweight, but not obese. I've seen a lot worse!" WTH? And those MMPI questions were interesting.
12 days until I meet the surgeon, nutritionist, etc....12 days until the bulk of my questions get answered...12 days until this journey really begins!!

@@pegrae that would definitely be fun!! With (hopefully) having this surgery I won't be trekking to Montana this year...but would love to next year

@@mollykaye I can only imagine how devastated you must be--I'm at the beginning of this process and can barely stand the wait for appointments...so I can't imagine how heart broken you must feel to have your surgery postponed.
But it's only a speedbump on your road to a healthier you!! Good Luck in your journey

I was one week into my two week pre-surgery fast and my doctor cancelled my surgery indefinitely. He "claimed" that he had some issue with another bariatric surgeon that he had to work out before he could do any more surgeries. I was devastated. When I got home, I Googled him and saw his mug shot on line. Turns out he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and THAT is what he was dealing with. I had to find another surgeon and go through the whole process again. Three months later I finally had the surgery done by a really good doctor. Glad I dodged the bullet of having a crazy man do my surgery.
Wow! That's an incredible story! Glad it all worked out for you in the end

@@pegrae Where in Montana do you live??
I worked in GNP for 3 summers, then one winter in Whitefish--love, love, love Montana! I was just talking to friends this weekend that I want to plan a trip to Glacier

I have lots of questions for my surgeon so I can decide which one to have. I had my gallbladder out 5 yrs ago & have some "issues" with the first meal of the day from that, so we'll see what he says.
I was trying to write out a little "give up" plan (remove something every week)--but since I'm not seeing my surgeon until April 5th & I'm assuming they will weigh/measure me at that appointment & I have to have a 50 BMI before they submit it all to my insurance, I figured I would start giving stuff up that week. Of course I could start the gym now, better get on that!

My surgery consult is April 5th--I'm so excited I can't stand it!! lol
I saw my PCP on Mar 10th for my referral letter & had him order all of my blood work (the surgeon's packet listed all of it)--the blood work showed low Vitamin D, so I've already started taking that.
My Psych eval is Mar 24 & the surgeon requires attendance at 2 monthly support group meetings before surgery, so I attended one this week. My insurance does not require the 6 mo supervised diet at my BMI (well... I had to "bulk" up & scrunch down for my PCP appointment so my BMI was over 50 to meet that, but it's on record now) so I'm hoping once I meet with the surgeon it can be submitted to the insurance company pretty quickly--but of course everyone does!!
I have a target date of June for my surgery due to work, so I'm really hoping this all works out!!
Good Luck to all of us at our April Appointments!!

Congratulations!!!!

I've already had my bloodwork done and I have my psych eval on Mar 24, then my surgery consult on April 5th--my insurance does not require the 6 mo diet for my BMI, so I'm very hopeful this process can move quickly once I meet with the surgeon. The surgeon requires attending 2 monthly support group meetings before surgery and I already went to one, so that's an easy requirement to fill. For work purposes my target is to have surgery in June...fingers crossed!!
I'm curious why you chose the sleeve? I'm waiting to speak to the surgeon obviously to make a final decision, but am leaning towards RNY. Only 10 days off work is amazing!! I'm very concerned my boss will freak about the recovery time--I work at a desk, so that's a plus for returning quickly.

Lol-I grew up in The Thumb...Saginaw was "the city" to me as a kid!!
I see from your name you had sleeve surgery on March 3rd--how are you doing???

I called my insurance company & double checked all of their requirements....with a BMI of 50, they don't require a diet. (4 years ago, I did a VLCD diet for 6 months because they required it--can't do that program again)
So I'm hoping the surgeon's requirements aren't too crazy. I really would like to have the surgery in June....fingers crossed.

Ahhh, I wondered if you were in the US after I posted. I've heard the waits are bad. On the plus side, I have to pay $6600 out of pocket for what my insurance doesn't cover. Where in Ontario are you? ? I'm in Northern Michigan.
