Dr. Garth Davis - post WLS meal plan/nutrition?
Minimel replied to ForLfKlovr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would also love to know what his meal plan is like after reading about him. I have to wonder if anyone he treats would be on this forum since it's so different from what our surgeons are telling us. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Yes. I'm 5 months out today but I had problems with diarrhea once I started eating food. Still do occasionally (not dumping and haven't seen a pattern). I get hungry at meal times too but am easily satisfied with 2/3 -1 cup of food so it's easy to stay on track. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Eating more at night?
Minimel replied to magoosmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've always been an evening grazer so I save 40% of my calories for then. It seems to be working. Friday will be my 5 month surgiversary and I'm down 52 pounds. Slow and steady wins the race. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Just FYI for us older sleevers: HIIT is not great for anyone over 50. Our hearts don't do well. Be sure to ask your dr before starting it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Feeling frustrated-Not going to meet the goal
Minimel replied to FabFemale's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Whoa! Nobody should eat 600 calories a day if they can help it. Your metabolism will be seriously screwed up if you maintain that. My program calls for 1200 a day as soon as you can get that much in. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Best advice on wearing a bra after surgery
Minimel replied to LJDavenport's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wear playtex 18 hour bras - 42 g presurgery and now 40 g after 4 months. There's no wire so they're pretty comfortable all the time. (I can never go out in public without them) For added padding around my incisions I also wore my spanks for the first month or so under my bra line. I buy the bras online since a g cup is pretty hard to find. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Now that I'm 4 months out (and 47 pounds down) I find eating out is easy and cheaper. My daughter and I just order one meal between us and I don't have to pay $4 for a diet soda anymore. We usually still have leftovers too. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

My surgeon made me wait 8 weeks for coffee or tea because they hurt healing. There's studies that agree. That said, exactly 8 weeks in I was back to my daily dose. No problems since then. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I use Fiber gummies every day and generic colace when I get backed up. But I always know if I don't get all my Water in. I'm 4 months out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I really should have done before pics so I could do after ones but I've been so camera shy for so long, I couldn't make myself do it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So Lipstick Lady, were you as small as her? And that is a great idea, btw. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

The things no one tells you about post op life...
Minimel replied to lexiemustang's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I noticed that at just 42 pds down from 271 to 229. But it's more like they actually look at me when speaking in passing than they did before. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone starting weight at 200 lbs? Help :)
Minimel replied to asolanom's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was where you are now 20 years ago and ended up at 271 (290 at my heaviest) with high blood pressure and cholesterol and blood sugar. If I had realized where I was going to end up, I'd've done this then. I was sleeved on 2/29 and am down 42 pds. I'm losing 2 pds a week (NOT keeping my carbs under 50 grams) on just under 1,000 calories a day. Blood pressure is normal and not on any meds. I'm completely satisfied with what I eat and 8 pds a month is perfectly fine with me. My advice is to go for it now before you end up where you really don't want to be. How many days off from work post-op?
Minimel replied to leliwhoaoh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine said 1 week but I started back from home part time after 3 days. (All my work is done online). Went back to the office at 1 week and stayed 9 hours. Mistake. Missed the next day. Was fine for full time at 2 weeks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Weight is not going down
Minimel replied to imala74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 2/29 and am down 40 pds, too. My new breakfast is 32 grams of Special K Protein Cereal with 1/2 cup Fairlife high protein milk and fresh berries. Just can't do eggs or meat first thing in the morning! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Try almond milk with your Protein powder. That's what I used when I was drinking them and it tasted better than milk. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

NY Times article on Weight Loss, Metabolism and Hunger Hormones
Minimel replied to Barry W's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon maintains that the surgery actually resets our metabolic set point so that our bodies don't try to regain what we've lost. I think I read that in a Mayo paper somewhere too. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Although he also said they have no idea why or how it works. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I'm 8 weeks out and tried a quarter of a cinnamon roll yesterday morning and felt like I was going to throw up. But it passed and there were no other effects. Just try it and be careful. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
