  1. So I had my meeting with my patient advocate and she faxed request to my drs and she hasn't heard anything from them this was like a week or two ago. Once she gets those papers she can get them to my insurance and I can schedule my surgery once I'm approved I'm so anxious . I'm going to my first bariatric class tomorrow and only one more after that . I feel like I'm so close ! I Dont know if should call mY drs or just be patient

  2. I went to the evaluation the first week of January and they called a few days later to tell me what I needed to do. I got all the paperwork and psychological evaluation and insurance approved in two days. So in short about 2 and half months from start to finish.

That's not bad at all I'm waiting for all my paperwork to come in so the patient advocate can turn it in and I hopefully get approved ! I'm attending the first class on the 5th . she said we are aiming for may but it could be June I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. But how are you feeling ? How much are you down ? Are you in a lot of pain ? Have you noticed a change in anything

  3. Really, there is absolutely no way to know for sure. It is dependent on your metabolism, how well you stick to your requirements, your Vitamins, your Water intake, your exercise and just plain chance.

You'll also have a chance of thinning hair (due to the first month or two that you're not getting in enough protein). That complication kicks in about the time you're looking to get married, and will last for several months. Some folks don't experience much Hair loss, but it can happen and it can get very bad (but it is temporary!!).

Is the date already set? Cause if it was me, I'd either move it much further out (minimum of 6 months after sleeve since that's when you should be feeling much better and able to eat solids and should have a good idea of your weight loss progression to know what size approximately), or do it before getting sleeved if you don't mind being your current size for your wedding.

It would suck to get married with a dress that didn't fit due to losing too much or not enough, and hair that is thin and limp. :(

Yeah the date is set and its okay about the hair thing I'm getting a weave so I'm not worried about that ????????????????

  4. Well you have to see a nutritionist then you have to see a psychologist and get his approval and that was pretty much it for me. My insurance didn't require me to do a 6 month diet prior to surgery or anything like that. I think it just all depends on your insurance. It's mostly a waiting period. Waiting for those appointments.

  5. How did your appointment go Chae?

Hi Tiney. I was surprised about the LGBT forum as well. It seems pretty dead, but at least it's here. I have only told two of my friends and am single, so I don't have much support either. I just started this process, so I don't have any idea when or if my surgery will be scheduled. I'm currently stressed about coming up with my deductible and OOP expense that they require I pay upfront. It's much more upfront than I had hoped.

I haven't had any problem so far with the medical establishment with regard to being a lesbian, but I've spent over a decade having problems being obese in the LGBT community. I've had many harsh judgements and comments made to me by perfect strangers as well as by people I know concerning my size while socializing in LGBT venues. I've also found that despite the fact that I am well-educated, creative, and generally a thoughtful person, that other lesbian women judge me to the point of exclusion. I've been told directly to my face by a woman who absolutely loved my personality that she could never date me because of my size alone. She continued to tell me about how much of an amazing connection she felt to me for a few years, but never once considered rethinking her stance. While I have certainly dated and had relationships, I find it very difficult to get my foot in the door so to speak because of weight judgements. The last time that I went out to a gay bar, someone wrote "fat b***h" on my car window in black marker. If I had done anything remotely rude, I could understand, but I am very aware of my surroundings and ensure that I am polite and don't negatively affect those around me. I have manners. Honestly, I've been more hurt and mistreated based on weight than I ever have been based on sexual orientation. Those are only a couple examples of many.

I'm sure you are very excited about your surgery date coming up soon. I haven't been on this app long at all, but there is a massive amount of good info here. I would love to hear how your surgery goes. Keep us posted.

  7. Hi, I'm also a lesbian at the beginning of this process. I had my first appointment on the 9th. I've set up all of the appointments I need to be approved, but my insurance barely pays anything toward the procedure or hospitalization, so I'm not certain this is going to happen due to the cost prohibitive issues.

I'd like to lose 135 pounds from where I stand now. I've actually had blood clots and have to see a hematologist in addition to the usual docs before surgery. I'm significantly older than you are, but my DVT and PE happened at 28 and were post-pregnancy complications. Just discuss your concerns with your doctor and I'm sure she/he will put your mind at ease.

I hope your appointment goes well!

So blood clots are something that can be treated if caught?

Did you receive a surgery date ?

  8. Hi ???? I'm at the last stage I'm now just waiting on my surgery date I attended the the pre op class last month. Depending on what insurance you have it could go by fast. Unfortunately for me it's been about a 6 month journey I guess compared to other stories I've hear it's not that bad but in the process you become so impatient. I guess now my biggest fear is the anesthesia.
