My name is Catherine, I am 37 years old and a stay at home mom to three beautiful children ages 10, 6 and 4.  I found BariatricPal while searching for wls apps when I first started to think about having the VSG.  I decided at the beginning of the year (2016) that it was time for me to give weight loss surgery a try.  Our deductible and out of pocket were met so the surgery should be covered at 100% (as long as I have it before 4/1/16).

I have been over weight a good portion of my life or at least struggled with weight for a long time.  I started weight watchers with a friend when I was in middle school and became a life time member of weight watchers at the age of 16.  Food was always a big focus in our home growing up because I have a sister who has Prader WIlli Syndrome, A genetic disorder that causes obesity, due to incorrect communication pathways between the stomach and brain.  Up and Down in weight over the years.  I have lost 50-80 pound before getting pregnant with each of my children and now after child#3 I just can't seem to lose the weight, its going in the wrong direction.

I had my first appointment with the surgeon on January 25th and due to the tight window with insurance covering at 100% I did all my requirements relatively quickly.  The longest part was waiting for the insurance approval.  After several daily calls and finally finding someone who cared I got the paperwork approved and all the letters of proof I needed for the doctors office.  Ironically my insurance doesn't require prior authorization for the procedure but the office wouldn't schedule it without it in writing that it is a covered benefit.  So by the hair on my chin I got the procedure scheduled the 31st of March.  I have my preop appointment two weeks from today on March 21st and will begin my liquid preop diet on March 24th.....just before easter and my youngest daughter's 4th birthday.
I am hoping this tool will help me get closer to an ideal weight.  I want to feel good about myself and look forward to doing things with family from running in the yard to going to amusement parks and the beach.  I don't want to be embarrassed anymore, I have a lot to offer the world but am too afraid to put myself out there because of my self image of my weight.  I want to feel good in clothes.  I want to feel sexy again!  I want to be a better person so I can be a better provider for my husband and children, I want to be healthy so I can enjoy life!
I am typically a very outgoing person.  I like to try new things and go on adventures.  I love to travel and want to take advantage of what life has to office.  I have felt myself wanting these things less and less as I feel so uncomfortable with my weight.  When you have over 100 pounds of excess weight it seems like a constant uphill battle.....I'm ready to have the surgery and feel like I can climb the mountain!
