    Any 7/14's- post op?

One of the best things I had early post-op to help me sleep was this stretchy wrap that I would put around my abdomen and Velcro it tight. It supported my stomach and allowed me to sleep on my sides. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. I was sleeved on 6-30, lost 17 pounds in the first week, then gained 1.5 lbs, thought I was going crazy! Weighed myself at 3 weeks and lost 2.5 lbs. Listen to the sleeve vets, stay off the scale. I figure my body is revolting from what I've done and am doing to it and it's putting on the brakes to figure things out. 4. I'm 18 days post-op and I'm looking for any reasons as to why I have gained 1.5 pounds in the last five days. I dropped 17 pounds within the first week and then from week one to week two, just a few pounds. Is this a stall? Is my body in starvation mode? I'll be moving on to the puree stage in a couple of days, but honestly feel like I could start anytime as I've had no trouble taking in any fluids (I'm drinking about 70-80 oz. of Water a day) and only taking in about 500 or so calories a day. It's frustrating, to say the least. So what say you? Am I worrying over nothing? Thanks in advance Troy
  5. You don't mention Protein. 500 calories seems low but the most important number is your protein. What is your protein target? Are you getting at least that much every day. A stall about three weeks after surgery is very common. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall Hey Inner Suffer Girl- My NUT said for the first two weeks post-op to just focus on hydration and not even worry about protein or calories. She said the first two weeks I should be getting around 20g of protein and 200-300 calories and by the time I see here for my 1 month follow up I should be up to 45g of protein and 500 calories. But I'm an overachiever. Today, for example, I got 60g of protein in and around 580 calories. I'd say I'm around 45-60g of protein each day. Thanks for the info! Troy

    First NSV

I'm only 2 weeks post-op but my first NSV was pulling out a dress shirt from wayyyy back in my closet (it actually had dust on it, that's how long it's been since I wore it last) and I buttoned it up and it fit. I'm a teacher and one of my many goals is to wear buttoned shirts and ties to school. I never have before because they were uncomfortable and I just didn't like how I looked in them. I've got a month and a half to make it happen! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Tired

So having low energy is a common thing with this surgery? I'm 11 days out and just haven't experienced a boost in energy yet. I keep telling myself that I haven't really had much for calories (still on full fluids) and I also haven't had a ton of protein. I want to really get back to exercising but man, I'm not sure right now.
  9. I'm POD 7 and I'm down 17 lbs, had a few obstacles, but overall it's been a good experience. I was even surrounded by people on the 4th gorging in food and I didn't kill anyone! Here's my limited knowledge so far that I'll pass on: 1. Get a Velcro abdominal wrap to help support the gut. Game changer! Allowed me to sleep on either side with no pain. 2. Get Gas X Strips, not only do they taste good, they help. 3. Get off the narcotic pain med they send you home with as soon as you're able. I got Tylenol liquid gel caps, poked a hole in it and squeezed out the med in something tasty to drink. 2. Get clear Soups, like real clear soups with all the noodles and meat and veggies. Strain it and use that for your broth. Stay away from plain broth...nasty. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Another item that was a game changer in recovery was this Velcro body wrap thing I used that I would wrap around my abdomen. It supported my sore abdomen and allowed me to sleep on my sides...it was huge! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I'm POD 7, but the 6th day was the roughest. I drank about 2/3 of a Protein shake and my stomach rebelled and wrecked me for the day. I did get a bottle of Atkins protein Water (20g protein) and got that down, but again, it was rough. I had lots of gas issues. But today, way better. My NUT said not to worry too much about getting 60g of protein, just get some and work it in gradually. I've had a few BMs, nothing much. Have you tried Gas X strips? They help with gas. I did have my one week follow up with my surgeon and I'm down 17 lbs so that was really nice to see. Just want to get the protein train going in high gear, but I'm not going to rush it. Stuggling with clear liquid phase

I'm 5 days post op and going through many of the same things as you Alexandra. Little hunger pains-nothing too bad and they don't last. I'm able to get in over 80 oz. of liquids too, which is good. But very low energy. Thankfully this is my last day of Clear Liquids and I'll soon get to put some Protein in my body as I graduate to the full liquid stage. How long are you on clears? Best of luck to you! 14. I'm also 4 days post op and watching everyone around me just chowing down while I sip my broth. But hey, that's ok, it's my cross to bear so I'm toughing it out. I just keep telling myself that with each tummy pain that it's just more fat my body is getting rid of! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Urinating Pain (males)

Hey Andy, Sorry to hear about your urination issues being thrown on top of everything else. I just got sleeved June 30 and I haven't had any issues going to the bathroom, except I haven't had a bowel movement...anyone have an idea when that takes place? I can certainly empathize with the gas issues - that was rough buts its mellowed out for me. Gotta say I'm a bit jealous, I'm still on broth for a few more days - so looking forward to getting through the diet stages. Good luck with things! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Pain after surgery

I'm POD 1 and my gas pain was bad right after surgery and it's gotten a little better, pain from the incision sites is tolerable. Walking and sitting up has helped. Still waiting to pass gas...hope that happens soon. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeved Tomorrow!

Prayers heading your way...I'm also getting sleeved tomorrow. I too can't believe how fast this day has come. I'm going in 30 pounds lighter and 70 pounds away from my goal. But the great unknown of life post-surgery has got me feeling quite anxious. Best of luck to you!

    Why get sleeved?

Great reaffirming post...I go in for my sleeve surgery tomorrow (June 30) and I'm feeling very nervous, anxious, excited - the works! I know it will be worth it and that I'm taking the steps to change my life, but it's the great unknown that scares me a little.

    Freaking out

I am also set to be sleeved on June 30th and many of the same "what ifs" have gone through my head. But I just keep telling myself that I'm not going to have 85 percent of my stomach removed and not make this work. Will there be obstacles and setbacks? Absolutely. But there's a solution and an answer to anything I'll face. You (and I) have to believe in the process we've been through to get us ready for this surgery.
  20. Here's the Protein powder my wife and I have been using. It's an egg white based powder with 36g of protein and 1 carb. Sweetened with stevia. Tastes great and mixes well. Sent from my iPhone

    Scared

I'm also pre-op and am looking at mid-June for surgery. One question I asked myself in deciding if this surgery was for me or not was, could I lose 80-90 pounds in my own and permanently keep the weight off? I answered no because I've been trying to do just that for about 20 years and have failed. The other issue for me was BMI and life expectancy. People with a BMI of over 40 can expect to live 10 years less...that scares the hell out me a whole lot more than whatever short term complications or pain I may experience from having this surgery. I'd like to be around for my grand kids some day. I think it would be beneficial for you to sit down and write out a pros/cons list for having the surgery and I'm almost positive the pros list will win out. Good luck! What are your go to "snacks"?

I second the P3, I love that as a snack. Also agree with FrankiesGirl, rice cakes are not too good. Stay away from carbs, they're just flat out bad. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  23. My program calls for me to follow a strict Atkins style diet and no more than 20g of carbs. I've already been following a low carb diet for the past couple of months so I don't anticipate any issues. I'll follow it to the T so I can ensure myself with the best chance of success. 24. No worries - I have seen many a therapist. I do think some people here have an all or nothing position, where as others say that it doesn't have to be that way to be successful per my comments to Alex Brecher (in response to his comments). The thing is - the doctors/nutritionists may tell me that I am not ready to have the surgery, so we shall see. It may not even be a choice that I make. They can not allow me to have the surgery if they feel that I am not ready. I personally think you, me, and anyone considering WLS needs to be comfortable with the idea that we'll have to make some sacrifices with food & beverages. Not quite an all or nothing outlook but you may have to give up soda. You may have to say goodbye to certain foods. I'm quite at peace with this train of thought because I know that living longer for my wife and kids is far, far more important than indulging in some food. 25. Something else I want to touch on about food, is that IMHO having this surgery doesn't mean I can never have pizza again. In fact, I absolutely freaking love pizza! It's my numero-uno food! But instead of eating highly processed garbage pizza like Pizza Hut or Dominos, I make my pizza crust out of cauliflower or zucchini. There are some great, healthy low-carb pizza crust recipes out there that certainly satisfy my pizza cravings. And I also know I'll probably only be able to have just a slice...and I'm good with that. I'm a huge believer in eating real food, eating organic, buying food from our farmers market, and most importantly, reading nutrition labels and ingredients. Whenever I get to the point of being able to eat solid foods again post-op, I feel very confident that based on the work I'm putting in now pre-op to learn to eat healthier and cleaner, that I will have long range success. If that means giving up some of the bad foods from my crap eating habit days, so be it, I'm willing to do it because it was those foods and my habits that got me to where I am today.
