Shaydi.Laine got a reaction from mshaw in Is your surgery a secret?
You don't have to lie about it. The surgery is not HOW you are losing weight. You are losing through diet and exercise. You are eating smaller portions, making healthy choices, and moving more. That is HOW you are losing weight. And that is an absolutely true, acceptable, and appropriate answer. The surgery is just a tool to help you do that, and it's nobody's business. Honestly I'm doing a lot more of the work than the surgery is. I could totally screw this up all on my own and the surgery couldn't stop me.
I told no one except for my mother who had the lap band, my sister who is a nutritionist and tried to talk me out of it (biatch), and eventually my aunt and only because I needed her to pick me up from the hospital and spend a couple days with me. Even the friend who dropped me off at the hospital at 6am thought she was taking me for an upper GI series Then at 5 weeks in, I told one old friend who came to visit for a weekend. I thought he would call me crazy but to my shock he said he was very proud of me. And that's it. Outside of that tiny handful of people, I'm staying in the closet about this and am totally cool with that. I don't feel the need to share this bit of my life with all my friends and acquaintances, and I certainly wouldn't feel bad about not telling coworkers or strangers.
Not comfortable talking about your private medical situations with the world? Then don't. It's not their business.

I would skip it entirely. Grab a yogurt or at least stick with carb smart ice cream. Give it a few minutes to melt a little then whip it up to soft serve consistency yourself. Getting past the cravings is a huge part of the battle. Don't give in!

Your stats say you were 5.2 and 266 pounds. I was 5.3 and 264 pounds. I was a high BMI person according to the doctors I consulted, it's strange that you weren't considered the same.
I see your goal is 125. You lost 136 pounds in 9 weeks? I can definitely see your concern. That's outrageous!

I can tell you what not to buy! Do not buy too much of anything!! I wish I had only bought one can of Protein powder. I got two. Now 3 months later, the second one is still sitting in the cabinet. I am unlikely to ever use it. The second box of sugar free popsicles is still taking up space in the freezer. I have half a case of Isopure clear drinks that are taking up a giant chunk of space in the fridge. I will likely toss all of that stuff and it was expensive. So the best advice I can give you is to keep it minimal and not overbuy anything. You will be out and about in a matter of days (I was shopping at the mall two days after getting out of the hospital) and can get anything you may find you need then.
I recently posted my 5 day post op activity. You can see it here:

Who says that's your ideal weight? If you're going by the bmi chart, forget that silly thing. It's bunk. With a bmi of 27, and considering wls, I think you may have bigger problems to address.... You do not need wls, but you may want to look into therapy.

My goal weight puts me at a BMI of 26.4. I have been there before. I looked fantastic and was the picture of health.
The only surgeon who would operate on someone your size would be the back door shady type just out to take anyone's money and damn the consequences. I wouldn't trust any surgeon who would say yes to you. I really think you should seek some mental/emotional help for whatever issue it is you are really having.
If you are dead set on having WLS, come back when you are 80-100 pounds overweight.

I got a mixed 12 pack of Isopure from netrition, com for about $46 I think. Be warned however, they will not suit all tastes. I personally find them disgusting. The Protein aftertaste is gag-worthy IMO.
Anyone who wants to stop by my house can have my remaining 6 bottles for free! LOL

I have a hunch the Protein Drinks won't freeze well. I used Protein Shakes for the first two weeks, then I wa so over those. I managed to finish one can of Unjury powder in that time. I have one full can left that I will likely never use. I also have half a dozen Isopure clear drinks still hanging around the fridge waiting for me to throw them out. That stuff is all pricey trash now and I'm glad I didn't go even more overboard stocking up on Protein supplements. I know its easy to get overzealous pre surgery, but I would definitely warn people against stockpiling protein junk.. Once I hit puree stage, it was easy for me to get enough protein through actual food.< /p>

I'm not much of a drinker to begin with, but I'll admit that I had a sip of wine at 5 weeks out because it was my birthday. It kinda burned a little going down but otherwise did nothing. It was one sip of wine, no need to slam me.
I had my first real drinks at 3 months out. I had 3 glasses of wine over the course of an evening. Guess what.. no difference at all in how I was affected. Nice little buzz but I wasn't falling down drunk, blacking out, or acting stupid. I haven't tried hard booze yet, but I can say from experience that wine affects me exactly the same way it did pre-surgery. If I want to get stupid drunk on wine, I'll have to drink a considerable amount of it. Fortunately I have no desire to get stupid drunk (or pile in all those extra calories.)
As for weight loss, drinking is bound to have an adverse effect. Calories aside, the body will burn alcohol before anything else, so while you are burning alcohol, you aren't burning through those evil carbs or, in the absence of carbs, attacking the fat.
All that said, I WILL be drinking 4th of July weekend and I might maybe possibly even choose to get drunk. If I gain weight over the weekend, it will be my own fault and I will pay for it and fix it. Even we sleevie peeps gotta live a little once in a while.
Again, I'm not much of a drinker in any case, but I would say that anyone who has a great liking for alcohol should just avoid it entirely.

I went with the ever popular pizza. A whole small roni, shroom, hamburger and onion with xcheese. Then I had 1.5 slices of just pizza toppings at 9 weeks post op and it was just as tasty and plenty satisfying.

Soft foods.. cottage cheese, mashed potatos, pureed refried Beans with melted cheese on top (my favorite in that phase), soft fish like haddock, any melted cheeses - have a ball, tofu is delish with a tasty sauce, egg drop Soup (sans mushrooms), eggs any style, tuna salad and egg salad (no veggies in either of those).. pureed roast beef hash with gravy.. bit tricky and ugly looking but tastes awesome That should be enough to get you through soft foods!
I would save hot dogs for when you are cleared for all foods. Or ground meat stage at the very least.

Please do not consider weight loss surgery at your BMI. BMI scale is not realistic. Your weight is probably at most of our GOAL weights. You could end up losing far too much weight and risk serious complications from a major surgery. It's not worth it at your weight.

My teeny, tiny little doodle was all uncovered and stuff...
Open to not only the howling winds (perhaps a slight overstatement), but also to the mockery of others (not an overstatement - it really is mockable)...
As a fat man with a meagre member, this was the most confronting thing I'd ever had to deal with...
Of course, that all paled into insignificance when I was approx 2 hours post waking up...
    What happened then?
    Well, I'll tell you...
I was laying on the gurney, wondering where/who/what/why the f*ck I was, when the lovely nurse says "Oh Mr Familiar... You're awake."
I replied with a barely conscious "Flmsrgthdbn.."
"Mr Familiar.. I'm just going to get a couple of wardsmen to give me a hand. I've a couple of things to do before we get you into the recovery chair."
    "Smfgrudcjk.."
When I opened my eyes again, two of the biggest units I've ever seen were standing over me. I immediately assumed I'd been thrown out of a nightclub and beaten, but apparently they were simply there to roll me onto my side.
I'd come to my senses (relatively) by then, so I said, "On my side? Like this?" - and I rolled onto my side.
Gigantor and Behemoth seemed impressed with my strength and agility, despite my state, so they left me to my own devices.
At this point, the nurse was somewhere behind me, preparing all sorts of things which I knew nothing about...
    Then came the instructions...
"Mr Familiar, I want you to breathe in as deep as you can, then hold it for five seconds."
    Pffft... Easy!!
"Mr Familiar, now I want you to stretch your legs out as far as you can."
This was a little trickier, as I was laying on my side, bare arsed with my tiny todger poking out from under my fat bellii (the plural of belly - don't Google it, I made it up).
Nevertheless, I stretched to the best of my ability and managed to not fall off the gurney.
"Thank you Mr Familiar. Now if you'll just draw your knees up to your chest as far as you can."
    "Huh?
You know where I've just come from, right?
You know I've just been gutted?"
Ok, that's what I thought, not what I said...
Being eager to please, and still somewhat off my chops, I did as the nurse required...
"Very good Mr Familiar. Just hold it there...."
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is where sh*t got all kinds of f*cked up...
All of a sudden, without warning, without a heads-up, with even a 'get to know me' drink, Nurse nice had turned into Nurse Nasty and was jamming SOMETHING in my doot..
So here lies me - all naked, groggy and vulnerable, being anally probed by Nurse Nasty, without so much as a hint of foreplay!!
Of course, my immediate bodily reaction is to shut up shop, which means I'm now laying on my side naked, with a medical swab poking out of my tightly clenched buttocks, with Nurse Nasty tugging on said swab, trying to remove it.
I'm not really sure what happened next - I was too busy wondering if this was normal or if the nurse just liked/disliked me especially...
Anyway, the point of my story is - don't worry about being all exposed and stuff on the table. You sleep thru that stuff.
just be careful should you encounter Nurse Nasty and her henchmen - and her penchant for a surprise
    dooting!!
