  1. The rapid hormone release from weight loss could also be giving a false positive result. I wouldn't bank too much on it until you get an exam and ultrasound done.

Weight loss cannot cause a spike in hCG. This particular hormone is only present during pregnancy and is what gives a positive result on a pregnancy test. Seeing that the OP said her levels were at 400, she's seen a practitioner and confirmed the pregnancy with a blood test.

  2. Basically all of my friends are fit or a normal weight, and I am the fat one. We live at the beach, so basically all summer, I'm the one in a long dress and a wrap trying not to show my arms.... like I could hide the fact that I'm fat... like no one will know what's under here. Lol.

A bunch of them went on a snowboarding trip this winter, and I didn't even get an invite. I know they didn't do it maliciously. They knew I couldn't snowboard or fit in a snowsuit or borrow anyone's gear, so they just didn't ask. I don't want to not be asked anymore.

And yes, I'm really looking forward to not being the fat one in the family, too. My grandmother was a ballet dancer until she aged out, but always has been slender and lean. She cannot help but make "helpful" comments all the time. I am really excited for those to be over.

  3. Talk to your surgeon about drugs administered during your surgery and see if any are harmful to a fetus. If you decide to remain pregnant, get with your nutritionist right away to alter your diet and caloric intake to support a healthy pregnancy. If you are not sure you want to continue with the pregnancy, you have about 5-6 weeks to make that decision.

Good luck, and if you want private support or someone to talk to, feel free to PM me!

  4. Cooking is the biggest challenge for me. I'm a single mom with 2 middle schoolers, so not being able to just use a Pizza Crust from the store is a pain sometimes. Making dough (almond flour) is messier and takes longer- but it does taste better, so there's that. I'm moving away from substituting carb - heavy items with carb - free items and trying to just plan meals that don't center around carbs at all.
The restrictions of the diet itself are fine for me. After a few days, I didn't crave sugars or breads. The fact that Keto focuses so much on fats is great, because that rich mouthfeel replaces the sweets and carbs.

  5. I love Halo Top! The salted caramel, red velvet, and mint chip are my favorites. My kids love it too, it's hard to keep it on hand once they find out it's in the house. Just watch the portion and enjoy it, it's a great treat. And I don't see why you couldn't have it 6 weeks out, it's a soft food.

I told anyone and everyone about the surgery and every aspect of my journey since the beginning of my six month pre-op diet program on March 21, 2016. It keeps me accountable, and I am lousy at keeping secrets anyway. And, at this point, I have lost 180 pounds. It's pretty damn obvious that I have had some medical intervention to use as a tool to help me in my journey.

Telling people educates them. I will never regret being open about everything.

I feel torn. On one hand, how will people know that surgery isn't the easy fix they think it is unless they are privvy to people in that situation and going through that journey? (ME) The only way to change that perception is to be an example. But right off the bat, I just want to recover and do the work and get my head right. I don't want to also have the additional job of educating the masses and defending my decision and learning how to deal with the sting of jerks who don't get it.

Maybe one day I'll be a good surgical ambassador. But that day is not today.

  7. No clue how ketosis is possible with the sugar in all that fruit, but call and ask the office just to double check to make sure it's correct information. I could still have fruit like strawberries or blueberries once a day on Keto but it was 1/4 cup - 1/2 cup. I can only eat 15-20 carbs to stay in keto but my sister can eat 35 so I do know it's different for different people.

Right, that was my point too. They recommend 4-5 smoothies per day but warn not to use milk because the carbs in milk will throw me out of ketosis. I'm just puzzled.

Also they said my "natural stores of protein" are enough. I've never heard that before. :-/

  8. Does your doctor require a pre-op liquid diet?

If so, how long are you to be on it?

    What foods are recommended?

What foods are allowed and not allowed?

Is the goal ketosis (liver shrinking)?

I'm trying to get an idea of what everyone else is being directed to do, because my clinic is sending contradictory information. I'm trying to see if what I'm being told is in line with others. It seems a little kooky to me.

    Thanks y'all.

  9. I've told my best friend. That's it. I am scared to fail. If I do, I don't want anyone knowing about it.

We all know this road isn't going to be easy, but the perception is that I'm taking the easy way out. Cheating my way out of obesity. One day I may feel an obligation to stand up for having chosen this path, but right now, I just want to get through it.

  10. I have always wanted to do yoga, but when I have, I was pretty limited by my size. I'm very excited to make this my first post-op workout routine. I'd start gently, but how soon after surgery did everyone start exercising beyond just walking?

  11. Erp, I already have a dress I'd like to wear. I bought it at a thrift store in Brooklyn 3 years ago when I was about a 14 and hoping to fit into a size 12. Obviously I never made it in that direction. After I decided to have surgery, I set it aside to use as my goal. One day I will be posting a picture of myself in it. :)
