  1. Don't feel too bad. I had very little restriction until my second fill. Just be careful not to do this again if you can avoid it because you could cause stretching of your pouch. Most of the food must have passed through the band or you NEVER would have been able to eat that much. I'm sure you are OK, but don't wait too long to go back for another fill. Just call the doc and tell them you don't feel any restriction. Good luck!
  2. I too suffered from the shoulder pain and my doctor confirmed that it was "referred" pain from an irritated nerve in my diaphragm. Just like when your right shoulder hurts from gallbladder pain. Mine did go away but has returned since my last fill. I have to be very careful not to overeat. Ibuprofen has helped me quite a bit. Also, sleeping on your left side minimizes the pain. If I sleep on my right I feel like I'm just about to die the next morning. Good luck!

    weight loss

I was banded 3/5/08 and have lost 25. I have had 2 fills and now have 5cc's in a 10cc band. I feel some restriction. My doctor does recommend eating 5-6x a day if I am hungry. I usually have 5 meals and average 1100 calories a day. I only eat if my tummy is growling hungry. The band has made it much easier to get past cravings. My first fill was at 8 weeks out and my 2nd at 12. Good luck!
  4. I too am losing slowly. I was banded 3/5/08. I lost quickly the first month and am now barely crawling. My calorie intake averages 1100 a day and I walk at least 30 mins 4x a week. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm not eating enough. I've never had a problem losing fast, just kept gaining it back. Now that I have my permanent "stop sign" I trust I won't have this problem again as long as I maintain a healthy lifestyle. Keep your chin up. You'll get your groove back. Talk to your doctor and see what he/she suggests. :-)

    Just want to share

Congrats on the weight loss. I was banded 3/5 and too have lost 22 lbs. Unfortunately, I went today for my first fill and because I'm averaging almost 3 lbs a week loss he wouldn't give me a fill. I was looking forward to staying full a little longer. Oh well, my time will come I suppose.
  6. Hi Cazz, I was banded 3/5/08. I didn't have any problems with dizziness but have NO problems drinking as much as I want. Since you haven't been eating much you could have low blood sugar or an electorlyte imbalance. It wouldn't hurt to have some gatorade or other type of sports drink. I'm glad to hear you called the nurse. I think everyone that has gotten the lap band has had a few moments of regret early on. I know I spent a few days wondering what the hell I was thinking. I feel great now though and I know you will too. Good luck and keep us posted! :-)

    Is it just a coincidence?

Hey JJ, I would think it's just coincidence. The perfect time of year for germs and your body being a little more vulnerable to infection while healing. It seems it's been a bad year for everyone in my area for colds and such. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!!! :-)
  8. If you go to Trying To Conceive Ticker, follow the steps to set it up then right click on the image, copy, and paste into your signature. That's how I did it although there may be other ways.
  9. Congrats on your fill! It's nice to hear you feel some restriction. I have my fill in 2 weeks and can't wait. You know it's bad when the Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmer starts looking decent.

Do I dare have a drink

My instructions from my doctor specifically say drinking is OK, just to be careful about empty calories and don't over do it. :-)

    Hello Missouri

Congrats on you and your wife's success and great attitudes towards this journey! I just started mine and am doing well. It's nice to see the positive along with the negatives! :-)
  12. Mine were super itchy too. I took Benadryl liquid (oral). It made a huge difference and I didn't have to rub anything on my incisions. Good luck!

Do I dare have a drink

I had a couple of drinks about 3 weeks post op. I stuck with Cranberry Juice and Vodka and had no problems. :-)
  14. Has anyone gotten to see the new series on cable called "I can make you thin"? It has the same mind set that you shouldn't diet, eat what you want, just stop when you're full. Very hard to get in that groove after all the years of self punishment, LOL. I love LiseSeattles remark about smashing a chocolate bar. Too funny!
  15. Where is your protein???? :-)

    Concerned

I was banded on 3/5 and have had no problems. My doctor even has a fairly aggressive eating plan compared to what I've read from others and I got to go to thickened liquids on day 3 after surgery and mushie foods after 1 week. I'm still on a 'if you can smash it, you can eat it' diet which is just fine. I get plenty of fish, cooked veggies, beans, etc. I've lost 16 lbs so far! I get hungry about every 3 hours but as long as I have a small protein type of snack I am good to go. Laughing Cow cheese is a great, rich tasting snack.

    how long in the hospital?

I had surgery at 7:30 and went home around 6 that night. I was glad too b/c I was so much more sore the next day that the ride home would have been worse. Please go with how you are feeling though!
  18. Hey all, I was banded 3/5 and still have this pain. I talked with other banders and did some research. It is possibly referred pain from the diaphragm. The nerves that supply the diaphragm also supply the shoulders. Just like when your gall bladder is bad, your right shoulder will hurt. Search for left shoulder pain on here and you will find a medical explanation of this from other banders. Mine is getting better. Try not to lay on your right side when you sleep. Good luck!
  19. I think you're fine. I was banded 3/5 and had my post-op today. My doctor said "if you can smash it with a fork, you can eat it". That includes baked chicken! I am sure you didn't hurt anything. It would be better to have a small bite of some real food to tide you over than to binge on liquids because you are starving. :-)
  20. Hi! I was banded 3/5 and used my pain meds for a good 5 days. I also had an unexpected hernia repair also though, but as for the no pain meds and walking the malls after 2-3 days, there is no way I could have done that! The most important is that you feel better each day! If not, you may want to check with your dr. You are all so lucky with the glue. I HAVE STAPLES! 48 total. Get them out tomorrow. :-)
  21. Hey all. I am 1 week out today and my doctor has a pretty good diet progression. Liquids for the first 2 days post-opt, then thickened liquids (yogurt, pudding, cream soups) for days 3-5, then "cheat foods" until the post-op appt (mashed potatoes, oatmeal, applesauce, condensed soups). I get to go to my post-op tomorrow then move to mushy foods. Thank goodness because I feel very little, if no, restriction, and I'm just about starving. Not just craving, but stomache growling hungry. If I get too hungry I get gassy and that just hurts so I try to stay on top of it with half-way healthy foods. I can't wait for my first fill!!!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Thanks for the info Amanda. I started sleeping on my left side and it's been much better!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hey all! I was banded March 5th. They found a hernia in there and fixed that too. I'm way more sore than I thought I would be but feeling better each day. I am having a strange pain though. I feel like I get a gas bubble stuck and can't burp and at its worst I get a horrible sharp, shooting pain into my left shoulder. Anyone experience this? I'm wondering if they pinched a nerve repairing my hernia.

    I'm BANDED!

Congrats!!! I get banded tomorrow morning! My consult was 1/4/08, Insurance approved 2/13/08. My work has a great plan. Good luck on your healing!
