Klaselayd got a reaction from Krista143 in Gastric Bypass Surgery Ruined My Life
This was very disheartening to read. Your message sounds very distressed and your statements are concerning for issues of safety. I urge you to seek professional help. Perhaps on an inpatient basis. I'm not going to tell you "it will get better." Instead I'll tell you a portion of my own RNY story. I had surgery on 01/11/2016. I've suffered the same flank (back) pain for 3 weeks. Constipation has been a problem, I haven't been able to keep food or Water down for the past 1.5 weeks. I've had good days, and not so good days. More good than bad. It was a little rough at first trying to get my body to adjust to the long list of things that it won't tolerate, but I realized going in that this is a decision I made, no one else. This surgery has changed my life and it is teaching me patience. I'm back to work and feeling better. I'm down 40 pounds. Some days I do feel weak and drained, but I realize that could partly be because I sometimes forget to take my Vitamins. Today I'm keeping fluids down and soft foods. I can't eat what everyone else eats and its a little awkward sometimes, but again, I had the surgery to help change my relationship with food, and that's precisely what the surgery has done. I do not know you, nor can I pretend to have a grasp on all the things you are feeling right now, but from what I read, I believe you have experienced a great loss. A loss for which you were unprepared. For example, the loss of the old relationship you had with your fiancée, you two use to eat out a lot together, that was your social circle and something you had in common, now its gone and he has become a caregiver. You're also morning the loss of the comfort food brings, the loss of control you have over your body rejecting food, the discomfort of surgery, mental health issues, etc. I feel for you! This is some serious stuff! Please, please, please reach out to a professional counselor. Know that now is not the time to make a major decision about anything, especially another major surgery. Get things sorted out emotionally ask for help and keep reaching out to people on this forum who have been through this same surgery. Its not all a bed of roses, but the path can lead you to a better life if YOU let it! Prayers and well wishes my RNY buddy! ????

I suffered chronic Constipation that was painful. I mix miralax in my morning V8 fusion energy juice every morning. I dont like coffee so this is my morning drink. Surgeon is perfectly fine with it. Just beware some days you'll have looser than normal stool. But I'd rather be "going" than not.

Thanks BonnieJo! I'm going to start taking the Colace every night and try to do Miralax daily. I get so bloated and uncomfortable from the Constipation that it causes pain. I use to use Magnesium Citrate, but that's carbonated so I can't use it anymore, but it really works too. Thanks so much for the advice!

I've been embarrased to ask for help but since you started the subject, I"m gonna just jump right in! At 3 months out I am taking either Colace (a stool softener) or Senekot (a stimulant, i.e. irritant to the bowels) every night. I alternate so that I don't get dependent on either.
But I would love some other options. Have tried Miralax but since I can only drink an ounce at a time, I couldn't get in enough to do any good. Several of you mentioned Milk of Magnesia - any drawbacks to that? How much do you have to take for it to do its job?

I take 2 Probiotics with my yogurt in the morning. Also 2 stool softeners at night , which I also did before surgery because like you its always been an issue BUT now everynight I also take 2 tbsp. milk of magnesia and I go everyday - I love it!!!
I was advised to do this off this site .... and through research on computer also.
See what you need to make you be comfortable - but I so recommend you try these meds and be comfortable again
I am not sure you will need as much BUT I was so miserable ...and I am so happy now
    Good Luck!!!

I am with you @Klaselsyd! In fact I am in the fetal position as we speak because the cramps and shooting pains from the Constipation are so bad. This happens once a week when I take ducolax to try and get things moving. My doc just prescribed me a daily medication to take for the time being. We'll see how that goes! Good luck to you!

This happened to me my 3rd week post op, then the following week I dropped 7lbs. I think some weeks are better than others. Don't get discouraged. A loss of 2lbs is better than a gain of 2lbs. A steady an consistent loss is is equally as healthy.

If you are responding to me, I appreciate your knowledge, but that was not the case for me. I know how much I can eat and my pouch was not over stuffed after 2-3 bites and I also know how to chew.

@spicyfrog; Thank you so much for your input and sharing your experience. I tried tuna yesterday and ended up vomiting that. I'll try again next week, maybe just 1 tbsp this time instead of 2. I'm sorry you experienced this aversion to meats, but its good to know that I am not the only one.

Jj7481, I thought of that. I was just afraid it would make my smoothie too thick (food texture issues) Lol!! I think I'll add .5 scoop tomorrow with a little more Water. Every little bit helps. I'm also going to get back on my Premier Protein shakes. Thanks! I just hope liquid food is not my life sentence.

How about upping your protein in your smoothies to 1.5 - 2 scoops?

Klaselayd reacted to RNYDawn in Hi. I'm Dawn
I started off in the Sleeve forum but after days of research, I believe RNY is better for me since I have GERD.

Hi all, I'm Dawn and just turned 40. I have been over 230 pounds since 2002. That's the year I got married and moved to Texas (San Antonio) where Tex Mex food became my best friend. I have been every size and have tried every diet. I got down to my smallest adult size when I was 21 and went from a 12 to a 4 in 2 months because I was a nanny at the beach. I walked, rode my bike, swam, walked on the beach, played with the kids and ate light because I was so busy...and the weight melted off of me without even trying. Why can't it do that again!?

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005 and have not been able to get it under control. I did lose about 35 lbs after I had my first child. I ran a half marathon, started yoga, and got down to my lowest weight (in a long time!) of 206. Then I got pregnant with my second and just let myself pile the weight back on. I've been at about 250 since 2013. Despite my weight woes, I stay active and go to boxing 3x a week, walk, and go to yoga when I can fit it in. I also do Beachbody Body Pump and other at-home workout dvds. It's the eating that is just not under control!

I went for a free seminar with a local surgeon in May but didn't continue after that visit. I meet with a different surgeon on Thursday for an actual consult and I am so freaking excited.

I have two little girls who are 4 1/2 and almost 2. My 4 year old has made innocent comments such as "is there a baby in your belly?" and "why is your tummy so big?" and I have had to fight to stay composed and not break down in front of her. I don't want her to think I am ashamed. I don't say the word fat around her and never want her to know that word...but the reality is that I am miserable and unhealthy and not a good example for my own daughters. The other night at bedtime, she called me a heifer/heffer. She has no idea what it means and I have no idea where she learned that word - but I started thinking "did one of her friends at daycare call me that?" I am doing this for ME but I do not want my children to suffer teasing or be embarrassed because they have a fat mom.

I work full time from home as a government contracts program manager. I work for a wonderful company that is flexible so now is the right time to get this started. I discussed with my husband and he fully supports me. He has loved me at every weight and I couldn't do it without his support!

Thank you all for sharing your stories and experiences so freely here. I hope to add to the knowledge and conversation as my journey moves forward. <3

Everything is an experiment as now to people will be able to eat the same things. You have to keep trying foods and find what works for you. Keep an open line with your nutritionist for different ideas.
pureed meats were never that appealing so I never tried that. I just masticated the crap out of every bite of meats. Have you tried tuna? How about ground turkey?

Just keep plugging along and experimenting. Don't get discouraged and keep moving forward to try different things. Even things you once thought you didn't like/couldn't handle may become a delicacy.

I'm just concerned that I'm not getting enough nutrition because I can't keep a lot of things down. I've been making smoothie's in my Nutrabullet with Kale, Baby Carrots, apple, banana, Flaxseed, and a scoop of vanilla whey Protein Powder, but I can't continue to just drink my food. My weight loss during the 5 weeks has been awesome. 30lbs so far. I'm very please with that. Thank you for the encouragement @@jj7481, I appreciate it. I will continue to slowly introduce soft meats. ????
