As an FYI- the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury brand makes a chicken Soup flavored Protein "shake". It is sooo good! Mix one scoop with a cup of hot Water. Yum! I've even taken to using it in recipes where I would use chicken stock ( I'm on a regular diet now at almost 4 months post op)
    Try it!!!

    Wow. What a journey.
Wondering? Is two weeks off a normal time frame? I'll be starting a new job soon that will have me traveling constantly- airplanes, cars and the like. Wishing I could do this before it, but not looking possible. And if I do the two procedures separately, I'm having a hard time deciding which I'd have first. Doc said I would be up and running again (literally) with a good bra within a few weeks.
I've had two vertical C-sections in the past, and recovered easily from those.
Decisions... But would love your insight!

LisaMergs got a reaction from dyemond11 in How does everyone deal with the social pressure to eat while eating out?
    Harsh.
There is no rule that says you need to spend "x" dollars just because you are sitting in a restaurant seat. It's a service industry. And yes, they're there to make money. I put myself through college waiting tables and bar tending. Never once was I pissed that one person in a party ordered less, or ordered a soda instead of a mixed drink. Never crossed my mind. It all evens out through the course of a shift.
And lest you be further mistaken, most servers DO care and will go over board to make certain you are given exactly what you need to have an enjoyable experience and eat on plan. And then, because service was exemplary, they are tipped accordingly. I've NEVER tipped 20% on a $3 bowl of soup...ever... They'll usually a minimum of 50% or more from me in gratuity.
People should NOT feel like they need to spend exorbitantly just to occupy a chair.

I have RA as well, and years of prednisone and the inability to move caused huge weight gain.
Research and anecdotal evidence showed RA pts who had bypass showed signs of remission. So, I had it and have been symptom free since March 23!!
    Good job!!!
I'm down from 283 to 160, almost to goal!

So.....you've lost 264 lbs and are 2 years out from wls and started a thread titled "I wanna know about carbs.....Seriously!"
    Odd.
I thought you were the "Doctor"...who fields all questions......dispenses wisdom left and right.
At this point I'd have thought you could teach classes on carbs.

Today-- trying on a pair of size 6 pants...down from 24's exactly 8 months post op today.
Here is the funny thing... I knew I'd fit into a 6- and the only pair that they had was on a mannequin. Asked the sales clerk to take them off so I could try them on. She looked at me and tried to talk me out of it- saying they run very small. I repeated to her that I wanted to try them on and she obliged but kept repeating that they wouldn't fit, they run small.
    Boom.
(I should add that I WAS wearing baggy clothes when I walked in...but STILL!!!)

    Why, thank you.
I think, though, instead of a pleasant night............I'll have a pleasant life.
In part due to the vets who led me to make the right calls at the right times......and not a bunch of enabling well-wishers who didn't have a clue what they were talking about.

You'd better glean whatever pearls of wisdom you can from them quickly as the successful vets......the very ones who have have helped bring many of us to a much better weight and state of being.....are being permanently banned from this sight.
The good news is....the newbies that feel like lost sheep can take comfort in the fact that any and every imaginable "bariatric product" is only a click away. They will be able to shop until their heart is content around here. Lot's of product for sale.
The 2 year plus successful vets don't rely on such products.....don't buy them......therefore are of little value here, it would seem.
It's a sad state of affairs around here.
If the goal were for us to help each other lose unwanted weight and improve our lives.......the vets would stay and the interaction here would flourish.
Sadly.....the goal seems to be to sell product.
I and many other would gladly pay a membership fee to keep the doors open and support the costs associated with running the sight.

LisaMergs got a reaction from JupiterinVirgo in Normal-Fat: is it dangerous to stop being invisible?
Here is what I have found---
When you lose the weight, YES others are attracted to you simply for the PHYSICAL change(s).
I have always had an outgoing, engaging personality. It may have been muffled under the excess weight, but that was more due to my withdrawal from life.
Do I find myself approached more? Yes. Unequivocally yes.
Did I have a hard time "accepting" this fact? Yes and no.
Here is why- prior to weight gain, I enjoyed a great deal of interaction socially ( not romantically- being married and all) from both sexes. It was my normal.
Do I sit and think "well screw you, you uppity socialite who NOW speaks to me"? Yep. I live in a community that is both Upper Middle class and extremely wealthy. We all intermingle, but the "super wealthy" women didn't give me the time of day when I was overweight. Now they fawn over me. Ha! Screw them. Didn't need them before, certainly don't now.
Here is also something I've seen---
There are those out there who will want to "score" with you, emotionally, physically, whichever, JUST for the hell of it...the game. You MAY find someone who "tells" you things just because...but don't fall for that BS. Be your best person, emotionally, physically, spiritually. Don't derail your happiness and success based on "what if". Don't let anyone or the fear of someone hurting you dictate where you eventually land weight-wise. YOU CHOOSE who you want to let into your life!!!! I'd go so far as to say when the time is RIGHT, choose people who didn't know you pre-op
Finally, you only become as invisible as you want to be. Having an outgoing, life-loving personality draws people to me. I don't say this to feather my own cap. It just is what it is. If you are outgoing and engaging, you don't disappear, you THRIVE. If you prefer to keep to yourself, then do that.
Summed up/-- you get to call all of the shots. How, when and with whom is up to you. Just don't fall prey to men who promise love and adoration just to score...no different now or thinner. Jerks abound. You're doing this for you. No one else and you don't need their validation.
Totally agree with everything you said here.

    Ok. Ok.
You don't overeat. You sometimes can move around, other times you can't.
Your choices are suspect, at best.
Get the crap out of your house!!!
If it isn't there, you can't eat it. If you don't buy it, you can't eat it.

So as of March 2nd, (2 days past my 9 month surgeversary) I have reached my goal weight!!!!!! I am ECSTATIC! I never NEVER dreamed that it was possible to be this small! And even better, I feel incredible! This journey has been truly life changing! 9 months, and 111lbs lost! It doesn't even seem real!
    High weight: 236
    Starting weight: 223
    Current weight: 125!!!
Started out at a size 16/18. Now (and this is still hard for me to believe) I am a size 3!!! I've never been a 3 in my life!

Thought I would share my 3 month progress. This is the first time I have shared my "before" pics. It's hard, yet helpful for me to look at them.
I feel I have only started this journey. Weight wise, I am about half way to goal.
    Before: 239
    Current: 185

LisaMergs got a reaction from GBLady41 in Something you wish you knew prior to bypass surgery that you know now?
Well...I'm not sure lol. Likely a combination of both. Definitely do NOT feel hunger on any regular basis. Early on, if I was "late" for a meal, and got too far out, and then went to eat, I'd be in pain. Odd thing isn't it? And again, I do not think that was a normal reaction. I learned that if I found myself in a situation where I was going to miss a meal, and knew I'd end up in pain then as soon as I COULD eat, having a Protein shake was a better choice than, say, meat and veggies. I also found that if I was experiencing actual PAIN from not having eaten, a simple forbidden pretzel or cracker chewed well was able to quell it. Those were the few only times I ate carbs... And I'm not prone to being a binge-eater, so I could literally eat just the one or two. As soon as my pouch settled down, I'd have my yogurt or cottage cheese. Most meats, on most days, still do not set right with me. I'm more likely to have a triple zero Oikos (15g protein) with a scoop of Protein powder added to it (20g protein) for most meals... Boring, but I hit my Protein goals, and today I hit my goal weight. 132 lbs lost since my surgery date.
