Have you tried the Syntrax Cappuccino flavor? It's decaf. Make with Fairlife for extra Protein, blend with ice, and it tastes like a frappuccino.

Not able to get protein down

I'm so glad to read this thread. I am so tired of the Protein drinks, powders and shakes and I'm only 1-week post-op. I have to psych myself up just to make myself swallow it. I'm grossed out by the artificial ingredients, the foaminess of some, the texture of others... I know it's a necessity, but it's a struggle already and the only thing I'm hung up on. I move to a mushy-consistency phase tomorrow and am praising the lord for Greek yogurt and higher-protein soup choices.

Google Nutritional Yeast and MSG to get more info. Many people who have issues with MSG also have issues with nutritional yeast. Seems to be a heated topic for debate, but I would suggest researching before consuming. [emoji4]

    Looking for any April surgeries

One week since surgery and ten pounds lighter than I was the morning I walked into the hospital. 25 pounds down from when I started the liver-shrink diet on 4/11! Should progress to "pudding-thick consistency" foods on Wednesday after I meet with my doctor. He'll also be removing my drain then (hallelujah). How's everyone else doing??

    Vega protein shakes - 1-week post-op

My stomach and my tastebuds are two totally different things. I'm 1-week post-op now and every Protein drink is triggering my gag reflex. I will move to a pudding-thick-consistency phase on Wednesday and that can't come soon enough. So, I tried the flavor I mentioned above and ehh... let's just say it was not the fruit smoothie I'd prayed it might be. I love TerraWhey and used it prior to this journey with a handful of frozen fruit, a stevia packet and Water or milk. Is it safe to add blended fruit like this on a pouch this new?
  7. I've been looking for a change from the regular vanilla/chocolate flavor of Protein shakes and came upon a "bodacious berry" flavor of Vega powder at Target today. It's not whey isolate, though. Craving something more natural without all the artificial sweeteners and this seems to fit that. Is this a bad choice 1-week post-op and/or has anyone had this brand of shake? Thoughts? TIA!
  8. Hi everybody. Looking for some input and would really appreciate your help. I just had RNY on 4/25, so I'm 4 days post-op. Every day has been better than the day before but geeeeez the gas pain is worse than anything I've experienced with any surgery I've had before. I'm up walking every hour, stretching and getting massages from my husband, but the bubbles are stuck in my shoulders and under my ribs. Horrible, stabbing pain! I've been trying so hard to get the recommended Protein and liquids in, but it feels like a full-time job. My stomach feels like it's going to burst its so full when I've only had 2oz of Protein Drink. I'm trying to get 2oz/hour in, plus a SF Popsicle every few hours, but I can't imagine drinking much more. It's such an uncomfortable feeling all day every day, and then taking meds? Feels like they're huge and scrape all the way down. I'm a rule follower by nature and I'd like to follow the post-op rules, but is it the gas pain causing this horrible overly-restrictive feeling?? How much have 1-week-out RNY people here been able to drink? Please tell me drinking will become easier soon. Also, have felt so remorseful this week but am slowly coming out of that fog... just mostly scared to face this new reality. I'm 18lbs down since 4/11 (when I started pre-op diet), but need hope this super tight feeling will go away so I don't get dehydrated. Thanks everybody. ❤️

    April 26th is coming quickly

Wow on you for getting so much Protein in!! My taste buds have done a complete 180 and I'm about to gag at the smell of most things (including Protein Powder added to liquids!) I had RNY on 4/25 and today was my first comfortable day. I've been up and walking a lot to try and fix the trapped gas issue. Bowels woke up today and I think that has helped everything. I can drink without pain now and finally feel hydrated for the first time since surgery. Soooo sick of fake protein though. Can't wait to add some natural Proteins back into my diet. I was thinking about you @@claddagh66! Glad you're doing ok!
  10. Update today... gas pain has subsided so much and ive been able to drink so much more regularly than my first couple of days home. 5 days post-op now and my goal is to get 50g protein today and stay hydrated and keep moving. Off pain meds and feeling so much better!

    Surgeon

@@tink3408 - I'm now 4-days post-op with Wegner and have found him to be a bit of a fast-talker (and one nurse said he does upwards of 8 surgeries a day?) but when I told him I had questions in the hospital and had written them down, he sat on my bed and said "I'm all yours... let's talk through them." I've found it hard to get through to a nurse for questions post-surgery though and ended up having to call the front desk for answers (leaving a message did not help). I didn't consider my questions an emergency, but they do send you home with an emergency number and I'd suggest using that for any question you want his direct answer to, whether you consider it a true "emergency" post-surgery or not. I waited a whole day in pain without answers because I was trying to be polite. Just in case you have some of the same nurses, my favorites were Amber and Sharon. I only had one nurse I really didn't like. Once I complimented them and/or asked them about their lives, they all warmed up so much and would spend extra time with me making sure everything was taken care of. Buddy up with them as you can and WALK! Wegner does his rounds at 7:30ish-9:30ish (am). I was discharged by noon 2 days post-op. Good luck to you!!
  13. Thank you both. [emoji4] I wonder why my doctor has said no to Gas-X strips? He told me to drink Milk of Magnesia but it's so awful! I'm having a hard time with how everything is tasting and the MOM is defeating. That would have triggered my gag reflex anyway. [emoji23]
  14. Update, @@crazyboxermom please! I'm now 4 days post-op and am so eager to hear how things have changed for you this week!! I'm so happy to be out of the hospital. I had some really good nurses and some rude ones, but I'm happy to be home and sleeping in my own bed now. I still have that tube sticking out of me until Wednesday and the gas pain is excruciating, but each day is better than the last. Having such a hard time getting protein and liquids in because it feels so tight and uncomfortable, but I'm trying.
  15. It's so helpful to hear people who have had RNY or the sleeve assure us that it does get better. I had RNY on Monday and came home with a huge case of buyer's remorse. I had no idea what y'all meant by "head hunger" but I sure do now. My coping mechanism is gone. I feel scared and what used to comfort me was a full belly, not a tiny pouch that feels like it's bursting at the seams every time I drink 2oz of protein each hour. I just keep thinking of my kids... the years of extra life and health I probably just earned... the confidence I'll feel and relationships I'll make as a result... The good stuff. Trying to drown out the fear, frustration, pain and food-as-a-crutch with the good stuff. [emoji4]

    Looking for any April surgeries

I'm in Memphis, TN having RNY! What about you? I also had to go off artificial hormones leading up to the surgery and for a few weeks after, so I maaaaay be a tiny bit weepy and paranoid.

    Looking for any April surgeries

Getting super nervous to tell you the truth! Surgery is 4/25 (Monday) and I'm on day 12 of the pre-op diet. Down 12.6lbs, so that's encouraging! Anesthesia and coming through surgery is the only thing that has me in a panic. Everything else I'm sure I can handle. Good luck to all of you!!

I got my date on Monday ... 27th

I had a dream like that last night!! Was in the surgery room and realized I'd eaten pizza the day before on accident and panicked about whether or not I should tell someone!

    Newbie on Protein

I've been using beneprotein just to get an extra 6g/protein per scoop. It's unflavored and mixes/dissolves well into anything. Only downside is that I can smell it, but if I mix it with Crystal Light in a sports bottle, it's fine.
  21. About a million times so far. Especially after losing 8lbs this first week on my liver shrink diet. Sitting here thinking "Now... I can do this on my own, and at this pace, I could hit my goal weight without surgery." Then I remember every single failed attempt from the past, and my hormonal issues that have contributed to the weight gain, and all of the other factors. Then I un-second-guess myself. [emoji4] I'm nervous, but mostly that surgery goes okay and I come home safely to my family. Everything after that is something I know I'll acclimate to in time. This is all for a healthier me for my family, so that's what I always come back around to.
  22. I've had a bunch of surgeries over the past decade (no other WLS) and all have required some torturous bowel prep (basically cleaning out your bowels with laxatives and spending the day before surgery on the toilet) in addition to 1-2 days Clear liquids pre-op. I've read over all of my paperwork numerous times and see zero about bowel prep, which seems strange to me. Did anyone here have to do this? Seems it would be necessary with all the re-routing in RNY, but maybe not for some reason? My liver shrink diet has included 2 weeks of: - Protein bar or shake for Breakfast and lunch - small serving fruit for snack morning and afternoon - dinner of 3oz lean meat, 1c veggies, 6 unsalted crackers... So not a fully liquid diet before; they're asking for 1 day clear liquids the day before surgery. Just seems weird to me, but I'm sure there's a reason for it, right? Thanks for answers.
  23. This made me feel so much better!! Thank you so much for the info. I'm excited to keep up with you and see how everything goes. One week from today, I should hopefully be waking up from anesthesia. I have to arrive at 6am and am 2nd on the roster for the morning. Did they say how long surgery takes? This isn't my first surgery rodeo but it is my first WLS and first at this hospital. Really happy to hear your experience was ok!
  24. Just added my pre-op diet above... includes a decent amount of solid food! I put a call into the nurse's desk last week and haven't gotten a call-back yet. Figured if others here hadn't needed one, no need to call back and bug them again (I've had a decent amount of questions haha).
  25. So glad you checked back in! How was your hospital experience?? Really eager to keep up with your progress. My surgery is a week from tomorrow, with one more week left to go on the liver shrink. I'm down 8lbs so far, and I'm happy to never see those lbs again!
