Made it down to 398 just in time for the New Year! So 2016 is officially my last year over 400lbs.
Been having a stupid issue with insurance, in that the hospital dropped out of network at the end of October. They are trying to get that resolved but I may have to switch surgeons. They've assured me I won't have to start the six month waiting period over again, so that's something atleast.

Just donated about a 3 foot high stack of pants and shirts. Got some Christmas pants in 42 down from 50 and some 2xlt shirts down from 4-5xlt, I even fit a regular 2x just didn't like the color so didn't buy it. New Year's Eve morning I was 300.0 on the dot. I even tried to take a quick lap around the block to drive it below 300 but no success. I figure tomorrow it will be new year, new starting digit in my weight. I've lost 120 pounds since starting insurance approval. 91 since pre-op diet, and 68 since surgery. It's been an interesting process. I still feel huge but seeing photos of myself over these holidays has been a revelation.

I've really been enjoying reading everyone's successes and am praying for those that don't see the light just yet. You'll get there!

    I started at 458 pounds. Now (5 months post-surgery) I am at 312 pounds.
Here is the story from my bio:
I am a teacher and on-air FM radio personality in my mid-30s from south Texas. I found BariatricPal on a Google search for Bariatric compression pants pulled up a forum post from this site.
I am 5 months post-op, and am doing absolutely magnificent. I now recommend Bariatric surgery for anyone who asks me about it, of course after asking the "qualifying questions" first (i.e. Are you morbidly obese? Do you have high blood pressure? How about sleep apnea? Diabetes?)
I got weight loss surgery because I've been a big dude my entire life. The last time my family remembers me being "thin" was age 7. Post-30 years old, I got sick and had to go to the doctor. I had the shock of my life when I was told I was over 450 pounds, and approaching 460. I had no clue I was that heavy because I had nowhere to weigh myself, and was in complete denial. After that, I started pursuing Bariatric surgery.
I had pursued it before, a few years earlier. That was how I found out I had sleep apnea, because that surgeon required a sleep study. However, I felt like chattel being run through a cookie cutter system, and I didn't like that, so I stopped seeing that doctor and let it go for a couple years.
When I found the surgeon I eventually used, everything changed. I felt like a person, not just a file. I felt like he was actually catering my program for my specific needs, not trying to fit me into a pre-prepared program.
I had my surgery on July 5, 2016, one day after Independence Day. I am now independent, and not a slave to my body or my weight. I have lost 145 pounds total, 101 of those pounds was lost after surgery. I am now 313 and much happier with myself. I am only 57 pounds away from my year goal, which is 7 months from now. I have already hit my 6 month goal 1 month early.
The best part of the process is seeing the looks on people's faces (especially my students) when I tell them about how much weight I've lost and just the overall feeling better and being able to move a lot better than I have in years. The pain that I have felt in my knees has gone completely and the pain in my back has diminished (will not ever completely go away due to scoliosis).
The worst part has already passed, and every day is getting better. The worst part was the 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery, when the intense diets were. The shake replacements were absolutely the worst part, because for me, they really didn't taste good with anything. I am getting my Protein now through bars, which, oddly enough, taste better than the shakes, and eating a lot more meat than I'm used to for all my meals.
I hope to benefit from BariatricPal because I live in a rural area with no access to surgery support groups less than an hour's drive from my town. I can't afford to drive that far weekly, and I'm hoping BariatricPal can help with that.
All in all, I'm happy with how things have gone. I'm looking forward to what my life will bring, and I'm extremely happy already. I can't wait for the rest of my life.

Hey everyone, just stumbled into this post. I have really enjoyed reading everyone's story and their ups and downs. It's definitely very inspiring. Just a little about myself, I'm 25, I opted for this procedure sometime in June or July and attended a seminar in August of this year. I am still pre-op and have no date as of yet. At my heaviest I was looking at 350, along with the usual co-morbidities such as diabetes, high BP, high triglycerides and possibly sleep apnea, haven't been tested.I have made some changes as far as eating habits and exercising, just to try and ease into the transition, should I get the green light from my ins. I have lost some weight, I am currently at 324.9 and hoping to be at least by 320 if not 315 prior to surgery. I have my last appt. (4th out of 4) with the nutritionist come November 28th and after that, everything gets sent to the insurance for a yay or nay. I'm hoping this will get resolved soon, I would really like to undergo surgery prior to the end of the year, mainly for insurance purposes. I will definitely keeping posting and look forward to reading from some of you guys on here.

Sleeved this morning @462.2 lb. I lost 25.4 lb. during my two-week pre-op diet. Operation went very well with no complications. Doctor found and fixed a small hernia, which I consider a win since I won't need a separate surgery...or experience the pain.
I've been in my room since 2:30 this afternoon and am pleasantly surprised with how well the pain is being controlled. Off for my second walk. Thank you all for your incredible support and insight in this thread. It's been a Godsend.

My update - Tomorrow will be 5 weeks since surgery for me and things are going great! I'm down 67 lbs since my pre-op diet started and 31 lbs since being sleeved. Everyday I notice something new that has improved with my life...whether it's getting into a car or having more energy throughout the day. My wife and I spent Saturday morning throwing out my biggest clothes and going through my older ones seeing what I can fit into now.
We're also making plans to travel that we've been putting off for years...waiting for me to 'lose the weight'. We'll now it's finally happening!

Today was my 8-month follow-up appointment with my surgeon. As chance would have it, today is also the day that I dropped below 300 lbs. At 518 less than a year ago, I could not have imagined it back then.

@@DavidBC, I too started in 5 x. My one year "surgiversary" is coming up later this month. I have gotten rid of 4, count 'em 4 of the X's in my clothes. Now an xl. Looking forward to just being an "L". I haven't been an L since college! I have lost 238 lbs so far and am really eyeing my goal. I am beginning to think my goal weight will be a post plastics weight. I will discuss this with my surgeon at the one year follow up. Great job on your loss, both the pounds and the "X"!

Amazing progress, guys! I am still losing albeit slowly, started at 422 but had been as high as 450 two months before the surgery, right at about 285 now. Not sure where this will end up, I expect to be at my goal of 260 by my two years post-gastric bypass date in April 2017. It is slow but sure now, and in reality the very rapid weight loss was rather debiliating for me, I prefer this slow and steady and getting all of my food and exercise habits cleaned up and habitual. Not complaining, the fast weight loss was part of the plan and the surgery, but that period lasted 6-7 months for me, then slowed.
I do know all of my co-morbidities are virtually gone, my blood fats perfect, diabetes 95% better, blood pressure actually low, edema gone, still have sleep apnea but it is likely genetic in my case, and movement is so easy now.
Still dealing with body image -- in my head, still a big fat guy. At times, I need to pick something up off the floor and reach for a grabber, even though now, all I have to do is bend over and pick it up, no problem. I can weed the garden just by bending over and pulling the weed...but in my head, my first response is that I can't. I saw myself in a reflection on the front porch glass, and did a double take, yes, that is me now.....but everyone says that we gradually get our brains turned around to match the new reality of fat no more. I am almost 6'4" with a huge frame, size 8 1/4 head and size 18EW feet, and am always going to be a very huge guy, but no seat belt extension on planes, no problem with mid size SUV, no problems with booths at restaurants, and I even get in and out of the bath tub without trouble.... I do like this new guy.
