  1. Hello there! I used to live in Missoula and my father-in-law lives in Helena.:girl_hug: Dr.Swannack was supposed to do my surgery in March but its a long story. Anyway, I will be banded on the 29th here in Colorado. I went grocery shopping for my post-op diet and when I looked in the shopping cart I found myself extremely sad. :sad:So I think a bit of sadness is somewhat "normal". I also believe the mind is a powerful thing and we have to change our thinking habits and picture ourselves being much healthier and happier.:rolleyes2: Will you be driving yourself to your Dr. appt. or can someone take you? If someone can take you, I would suggest taking your pain meds, if you have any left. I'm sure once you are out and about though you will find yourself feeling much better. :girl_hug: Best of luck!

    No Sleep... HELP

I say take the pain meds. Even if you are not in any pain, the medicine will make you more comfortable, and you will be able to catch some Zzzzzzzzz's. :rolleyes2:
  3. Yay...it worked!! Thank you PrtyAntOvrYt!!! You too are my hero! Goodnight All...:cursing:
  4. Ok, girls! I told myself I wasn't going to bed until I figured out this multiquote thing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works. :w00t: Maybe you would be able to go to the group at Dr K's office in October. I'm sure there will be a few of us there.:cursing: Would love to! Please let me know the date.:crying: You have got to be kidding?!?! That is amazing! You are my hero! 101 lbs. in 8 1/2 mths.WOW! You give me great hope. I have PCOS so I am terrified of only losing 30lbs.:tt2: I'm glad I'm not the only one then. or it won't appear correctly! Try it now! Everyone together! Thank you for the multiquote lesson 101. I'm hoping it works! It would make it so much easier to keep up with you girls.:cool2: We have a paperless system and I'm a superuser of it! ARGH! BUT listen to this, we had to transport a really sick baby the other day to another facility and we had to print her chart. She was less than 3 days old and it printed 408 sheets of charting from the computer! YIKES!!! We killed a bunch of trees that day! In the old days, you chart on paper and just walk over to the copy machine and copy them! 408 pages! I don't know how you nurses do it. The long hours,shifts,holidays,on-call and crappy schedules. Ugh... RN here! I didn't realize so many of you were nurses. That's so cool! She is a princess! Happy Birthday! She is a doll baby! I can't wait to have my own. Me! I keep getting calls from travel recruiters because I'm licensed everywhere for my current job, but I could never travel -- no current skills in anything! I've spent too many years talking for a living, so I'm pretty much incompetent when it comes to the hands-on stuff anymore. Lol...travel assignments aren't at all like the recruiters crack them up to be. The travel companies promise you this and that and then after you sign the contract...NOTHING! Plus, the insurance really sucks. Usually the deductible is $500-$1,000 and seriously who meets that in 12 wks.? We were in Phoenix for our last assignment and yes, the hottest months of the year. It was miserable! Especially for this AK girl. Thank heaven for little girls! She is adorable!!! Question -- where do you get supplies for a princess party motif in Nome?? I know you can't run out to your nearby Disney store. And you know Nome life fascinates me!! Ha! Ha! After spending my childhood in North Pole, I was wondering the same thing. I hate stuff. I've got to keep reminding myself of how much I hate stuff so I won't buy stuff. Too much stuff is stifling! I second that! We had to put all of our "stuff" in storage during our travels. So, we have a whole unit full of crap and I don't miss any of it. Except maybe my skinny clothes that I won't be able to wear b/c they are stored away.

    Newbie to be banded

Hi Sash and welcome! :cursing: First I have to say your dog is ADORABLE. I have two shih-tzu hounds that are my babies. Seriously...they outrank my hubby by 7 yrs. :cool2: LOL! Anyway, I too will be banded on the 29th. YIKES! That's not very far away. :tt2: I start my pre-op diet on Mon. I'm not looking forward to it. I have had major anxiety for the last week. I'm only worried about the anesthesia part. I hate waking up from it as I once had a bad experience. However, that was 12 yrs. ago and I know how much medicine has improved since then. Good luck to you!
  6. Are you getting excited? Only 4 more days...

  7. I was speaking from personal experience. My mom had bypass; my aunt Lapband. My mom has done significantly better than my aunt. My mom lost 150 lbs; my aunt 80 lbs. However, the pouch does stretch w/bypass but your band is only so big. I believe there are advantages/disadvantages to both and everyone is different. Just b/c one works good for one person doesn't mean it will work for everyone. I think you have to do the research and decide what's best for you.
  8. How many of you ladies are nurses? My DH is a nurse. He worked in the ER for 12 yrs. Finally had enough of the crazy schedule.(I think I hated it more than he did, esp.on-call evenings) He now works in dialysis and we are currently on a travel assignment here in lovely Colorado so I can have my surgery with Dr.K.
  9. Whew!!!!!!!!!!! So happy for you, DH and fam. You will definitely have to celebrate.:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
  10. That would be so much fun! I'm hoping I get to meet some of you during my temporary stay in Colorado.:w00t: Can anyone help me out with a multiple post? I really like to think of myself as computer literate but geesh...I've had trouble naviagting my way around this site. Until then I guess you will have to put up with all the individual posts.:cool2: Sorry! I know this frustrates some ppl...:tt2:
  11. Well, hello band buddy! Haven't seen you around in a while. You know I'm obviously having the band but I think it depends on how much weight you want to lose. If you have a lot of weight to lose, I would say bypass. My mom had R-N-Y 4 yrs. ago and looks AMAZING! Msg. me and I can tell you more if you'd like.
  12. One more thing...Conratulations on getting your approval through Cigna! I have Cigna insurance and I will be a self-pay. :smile2:
  13. CMTurner: I would also say go with your gut. Your gut feeling always knows best. However, something else to think about is even though the new Dr. hasn't performed as many surgeries, I think usually they are more careful. I am in the medical field and when I was in college the school clinic was WAY more thorough. Sometimes the longer a Dr. is in practice the more they let things slide. So, that's a pro for the new doc. Also, usually there is always another Dr. assisting w/surgery so that's something to think about as well. I'm not sure if I would want to wait until X-mas either. The longer you have to wait the harder. Good luck with whatever decision you make! I'm sure you will make the right one. :smile2:

    tomorrows my day

Omg! How can you not be nervous? Good for you. My day is in 11 days (29th) and I am extremely anxious. Good luck! Please let us know how it goes.
  15. Where have you been? lol Mon. was the worst for me when I sent that 10,000 check. Everything hit me all of a sudden.

Awe...you are too sweet! That is my baby in the pic w/me. Her name is Zsa Zsa. She outranks my hubby by 7 yrs. lol I also have another one who I will post pics. of if I ever figure this site out myself. Its not user friendly at all! Your pic is awesome! You DO NOT look your age, that's for sure.

My pre-op is @ 9:15 or 9:30 I think. Maybe we will get to meet then. I wonder how long it takes? I honestly think the pre-op diet is gonna be the hardest for me. I am really bad @ eating protein. Will start that Mon. I guess. Ugh...not looking forward to it. :(

How long did you decide to take off from work? I am so lucky I don't have to work right now. Lets definitely keep in touch!

  16. I didn't think that was so bad either. Its funny b/c you wouldn't even think twice about spending 10+ grand on a new car but when it comes to your health it sounds like a lot. I'm tired of feeling like crap and can't wait to feel "normal" again. Only 11 more days... Wow...22 yrs. of marriage! What a great way to start this new chapter of your life. Congrats to you!
  17. Has anyone heard from Brandy???:thumbup::tongue2::thumbup::thumbup:
  18. We decided to just get a signature loan with Wells Fargo. Even though, I hate Wells Fargo  it was super simple. We applied online, got approved and took the paper work in and had the money in savings that day. The interest is around 14% which is terrible:rolleyes2:but still better than some other options. I think our monthly payment is $273 for 48 mths. Plus, if you bank w/them you can get 0.25% deduction if you set up automatic monthly payments.:sneaky:Hope this helps! Good luck!
  19. Cassy~ My surgery is not the 24th but the 29th and I would be interested in meeting you all 24thers for dinner, depending on the location. If you have it around the office or if you are staying near Dry Creek, I would love to come. I am 25 miles north of Dr.K's office and I think Parker may be a ways to drive. But what do I know, as I am not from this area.
  20. Brandy~ Hoping everything went well today. Thinking of you during this difficult time. Please let us know how everything went. Marcyinak~ To be honest, I just came up w/something real quick when I first registered months ago. I had no idea I would get addicted.Otherwise, I would've come up w/something clever like akgka(ak girls kick ass).:frown: But...since you asked, its a long running joke between my bff and me. The PD part will always remain a mystery:rolleyes:, the MNM came from our maiden names and '95 was the year this all took place. Maybe I will chg. my log-in to akgka. What do you think? The ambien is a great idea! I will definitely have to ask Dr.K. I can't believe how much anxiety I'm having over this. I'm really not worried about the pain but anesthesia. I had a bad experience w/my first surgery but that was yrs. ago.
  21. My first fill is scheduled 4 wks. after surgery. From my understanding, the band is empty when placed. To feel decent restriction you will need a fill ASAP(4-6 wks)...unless you are one of the lucky ones.:frown: I had my consult with Paula today and she said I probably won't feel the tightness until my 1st fill. I hear ya about the expense. We are in CO temporarily for me to have surgery.(DH is a travel RN) Our contract is up @ the end of Oct. but I'm hoping we can extend so I can be close to Dr.K. Who in the heck can afford to shell out $200 for a fill? Especially when you are self-pay and already have a monthy payment for the surgery. Grr...frustrating!
  22. Hi and welcome! My orig. surgery date was supposed to be Oct. 1 but it got moved to the 29th. I'm right there with you. Now that there's only 12 days to go I'm extremely nervous. :frown: Good luck to you!
  23. Two weeks from tonight and we will both be banded. Eek! How are your nerves doing? All of a sudden it hit me today and I am getting scared.
