Real resources for people our age?
true I didn't necessarily mean like a heres how you lose weight book i mean there are plenty of those out there i just thought it'd be cool if there were maybe books about peoples journey that I could relate to or like a here was my experience the funny moments or the do's and don't i learned I don't know I guess I am a bit of an over prep type of person and as for the youtube i just generally enjoy youtube videos maybe its because i am a youtuber myself I don't know its fun to watch videos sometimes and see how people although they are going through the same thing may live totally differently and it'd be nice to see more people my age doing it I have seen plenty of books or youtube channels on the vsg and peoples experiences and I have only seen like a handful of peoples in 20's do it was more so making an observation You can always read "because I was fat" from Andy Butler. It is on Amazon for Kindle app. This is his journey towards the surgery and after. After reading it, I knew the sleeve was for me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Please HELP! Weight Gain at the 6-7 Month Post Op Mark
If you don't work out anymore, try to reduce snacking, especially the Protein bars. They won't do any good as they are extra calories if your muscles are not recovering. Regarding traveling, I also move quite a lot and pack my bars that I use as dinner most of the time. You can always find good protein on salad buffet. I skip main course, because I am not hungry after salad, especially if I add tuna, boiled eggs or salmon. You can always get low fat dressing on the side. No dessert while traveling. You never know what is in there. If you can find a supermarket in the area, even better. Also, if you spend some nights out on trips, take the opportunity to use the hotel gym. Most of the chains have fitness rooms. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I need to do this, no matter what
You are very welcome! Miami, what a great city. I used to fly there a few times a year when my former company had its head quarters in West Palm Beach. I spent some great weekends over there!! When you refer to pies, I assume you want to say Key lime pie, right? . Premier vanilla protein shake sounds a solid option. I remember I found a light version of key lime pie recipe on the Internet that was very good. I will let you know if I find it back. Sharing is the purpose of this community, so no need to thank me . I am just sharing what I do, and that makes me happy to know it can help. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I try to eat very slowly, so I have the impression to eat more. And...I focus on other things than food. I go to the gym, walk outside, spend time with my daughter, try to keep active. You will see that once you start losing a decent amount of weight, you will see things differently. The energy boost everybody talks about happened for me when I was a month out. 2 weeks is rough. I was miserable, no energy, only liquids, could not move much. It will get better. Hang in there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How did you know it was right for you?
I knew it was right for me when I found out I would not be starving anymore, and it is working for me! I did not want to do a bypass because I was concerned with the consequences (dumping, Vitamins to take everyday, etc). My problem was with food quantity. I was a big eater. Food was my way to release stress. Comfort food all my life since childhood. I knew I could follow a diet, as I did it many times before successfully , but I needed a tool to help me not to starve and put the way back. I found it .

Water, why the heck can't I drink you?!
Yep. Can't drink regular water. I need to add a flavor to it. Any kind, but plain water is extremely difficult for me, or I have to drink it very slowly.

I need to do this, no matter what
Thank you for your nice comments. I do what I can, and it is not working too bad for now. For the smoothie, I take some watermelon I put in the blender, some ice (a few cubes) I add light cranberry juice and voila! I also do it with unsweetened peach ice tea. I like the combined flavors. Sometime I add a full peach in it. I try to avoid high sugar content fruits such as cherries or grapes. Mango juice was not a good idea as the flavor overtakes the watermelon completely. I tried to mix pineapple and light coconut milk. That makes an awesome alcohol free cocktail. Something else I do in the morning: I put an espresso shot in my chocolate shake with skimmed milk. Awesome Cappuccino !

I heard that at one year out you can eat about a cup of food. Regarding the steak meal, it seems a bit extreme....unless he stays at the table for 1 hour, wash it down drinking, etc. Having said that...I believe that the quantity of food we can eat increase after a year or so. But I know that I won't be eating again a 10 oz steak with baked potato and veg, even if I could. That is against of the purpose of my surgery. But that is my vision of things. I would be curious to hear from more senior sleevers on that.

people not educating themselves
Same thing for me. My surgeon was great and I knew everything I needed to know about the surgery...but that was it. Being self paid, no pre op diet, I did all the tests needed though. Once I left the hospital I had 2 pages about liquid diet and purée phase. My nut is a no go. I posted on that. I also believe I have a decent education, but that has nothing to do with getting the right information. I have to admit I don't know what I would have done without this place. Most of the comments / advices I read here make so much sense and work. This is how I moved out of the purée phase and today I don't think I need a Nut . My regular doctor visits for blood tests reviews and control visits with the surgeon is all I need. The rest I find it here . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I need to do this, no matter what
Whats your food look like each day?that is a good question.I usually wake up at 6 AM, I take a protein shake or a bar (Quest). Then I go to the gym from 6h45 to 8h15. 15 minutes elliptical to warm up, a 30 minutes weight lifting with 80% of max weight and high rep until failure of the muscle group. I usually do 3 x 10-12 reps of different exercises, then 30 seconds rest and another set of 3. 30 minutes running to finish. Once I get to work I have another bar / shake. At lunch I usually take a salad (2 boiled eggs, some chickpeas or beans, couple of cherry tomatoes, green. No dressing) and a fat free yogurt for later. no snack in the afternoon. If I am hungry, I go for another yogurt. in the evening I usually go for scrambled eggs (2), or sea food (shrimps, squids, smoked salmon) and a smoothie (Watermelon, light cranberry juice is my favorite). no late snacks. During weekend I usually take lest protein shakes / bars and eat poultry, fish, etc. I don't have any cravings or things I want to eat. I select food I know will work for my sleeve, but I don't miss anything...yet. it may change later. I don't know. I don't enjoy eating as I used to (which is a good thing because that is the reason why I am obese), even if I still cook for my family during the weekends. This is a good thing as I want to move on with my life and have other objectives. Hope it helps. Awesome post. I love it when members detail what they eat and their activity level- it's very helpful and I always get some good ideas. Can you share how you make the watermelon smoothie? I'm convinced I'm part fruit monkey- can't get enough. Btw way to go!!! You are on fire!!! Love your attitude. Thank you for your nice comments. I need to do this, no matter what
Hi Chris, yes they have! I started to run this week too. 30 minutes every morning in the gym. I hated it at first but I am getting used to and I think I could end up liking it . Thank you for the compliment. Coming from someone that lost almost 100 pounds, it means a lot.

I need to do this, no matter what
Yesterday was 10 weeks since surgery. I eat now about 1200 calories a day, with 120-130 grams of proteins as I go to the gym 5 times a week. Carbs are under control. Weight loss is regular, about 3-4 pounds a week, which is good for me. I know that the less extra weight I have to lose, the harder it will get. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

One Year Post-op
I have to go out for dinners a lot too with my job and this is a real challenge at my current stage. I guess at one year out, you can probably eat a bit more, and therefore you must be careful with what to choose to stay on track. But it seems it is working for you.

Increased appetite
Hi, What are you eating? It could be you are experiencing head hunger. Did you have any "slider food"? I, for instance, noticed that I can eat a full individual package of multi grain crackers and I am pretty sure I could eat more...so I avoid them. Old habits die hard. if you were going to the fridge a lot pre-op, it makes sense you still do it post-op. You should just try to find out if you are really hungry. You could be thirsty too, it is pretty much the same feeling (at least for me). As long as you eat your protein first, then your vegetables and finish with your carbs, you will be fine.

One more thing... About meeting another sleever. I am not sure that two guys checking each other with nothing else than a towel around the waist in a gym dressing room is the best way to introduce each other.... I need to do this, no matter what
It's really funny you mention this. Sometime, maybe 10-15 years ago, mosquitos just stopped biting me. It's awesome. I spend a lot of time outside in an area that has quite a few mosquitos, yet never get bitten. Literally never. I was actually wondering as the mosquitos pick up if that will change since having this surgery. I always assumed it was something to do with hormones/diet, etc. That all changes so much after surgery, I hope I still have my anti-mosquito superpowers. I had my surgery 1 days before yours, so this is my first mosquito season since surgery! I also believe it has to do with the sweat and smell. I don't sweat as much as I used to. I know that it had not much to do with Proteins diet as I did a few of those in my past and was still covered with bites. I wish you keep your super powers! Let us know how it goes. I need to do this, no matter what
Thank you for sharing CelesteMarie. Everybody has his own approach on the sharing thing. I am a very social extrovert person but private a the same time. I used to be always the funny dude from the group but nobody got to really know me. That is why now at 42 I can still count my friends on the the fingers of one hand. I don't care about what people think. What bother me more is that some people I shared it with reacted in a very weird way as it is triggering either fear, confusion, envy or whatever other feeling. So to avoid this, I am not talking about it. Now if I was doing a job as yours where I am in contact to many people everyday, I would maybe change my approach. May be I should think about it again. Exercise is addictive. I don't feel well when I skip a session for whatever reason. The worst part is to actually get started.... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I need to do this, no matter what
I started a membership to a new gym next to work that opens very early (6 am is the earliest you can get in Spain). So I went there and spent a total of an hour and a half killing it on weight lifting first, and then ran on a treadmill for 30 minutes. Great feeling of achievement . Then I went to the dressing room to shower and I saw a guy changing with the same little scars on the belly... There were plenty of people dressing up as it is was a busy hour so we could not talk much but it is kind of funny how I knew that I would have a great topic of conversation with him. I know that his surgery is more recent than mine and he is starting to exercise again since a few days. I guess that last year I would have not paid attention to him, or maybe wondering how he could lose weight so fast . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
