  1. Congratulations, Redmaxx!

I see we had surgery a day apart as I had mine on 10/18/16. Our other stats are pretty much the same too. I'm doing well and so happy I had the surgery. Last Wednesday I had my one-year follow up appointment and my doctor is very pleased with where I'm had. Lab #s are great and that's so important.

Keep doing what your doing! :-)

  2. You are moving right along! And you started the 12-week program today? Awesome!! You mention smoking and I just remembered today is my one year anniversary of being smoke free!! I did it . I quit way early because i knew i had to before they'd do surgery. At no time did they ever test me. Not even day of surgery. Good luck to you! mayo will take good care of you. They are THE BEST!!

  3. I'm down at the mayo Clinic with my husband for his appointments and remembered that I hadn't heard back about my referral.

I called and there must have been a glitch. I've been accepted into the program... and they had an appointment available today for the first initial appointment.

I'm nervous and excited. I'm surprised they had an opening, but weather is bad right now and I wonder if a cancelation came up. But I have my psychology and dietitian appointments scheduled for tomorrow morning. I have to take a class next Wednesday that's a basic informational class.

Things are rolling... in curious what the timeline will be. I hope they can provide that much so I know what to expect and so I can plan a bit more

Hi! Are you going through Mayo Clinic-Rochester? That's where I had my wls. At St. Marys Hospital, actually. I had my first appointment with my endocrinologist March 15, 2016, then psych and nutrition appointments followed by Mayo's required 12 weeks of classes. My surgery date was October 18, 2016.

  4. Me!! I went through what you're describing. I'm 11 weeks post-op. The first 2 or 3 weeks I felt like myself and so excited to start my journey. Then "it" hit me. I felt a little depressed some days. Sad I guess. I also felt alienated I guess is the word that comes to mind. Finally this past weekend all of a sudden it hit me that I was feeling really good. Like my old self again! I realized this as I was preparing my pill boxes for the week. I remember thinking how normal that felt. That's when the sun seemed to come out over me and I felt happy and at peace. You may just need time to adjust to all that is new now. Give it yourself to me.

  5. Quick update!

Who ever thought I would be happy to know I have a stricture?!? I had the endoscopy done a few hours ago and apparently one opening was so tight that the camera didn't even fit thru. So my surgeon inserted a balloon that she filled with saline to push the hole more open. The stretching causes some bleeding, so I got some meds for that.

I'm back in my room now, drinking milk. The feeling is so much different than before. Still taking small sips, but there is no pain or feeling that it gets stuck.

I still have an iv for hydration and I also got a Vitamin B drip, because I haven't been eating much lately and my labs show malnutrition.

But I feel so much better than before! Maybe my weight loss will start to pick up now that I can physically eat more..? One can always hope!

    Nilla

I'm happy for you that at least you know now what was wrong. Now you can recuperate and get back to your weight loss :-) Keep us updated!! Happy New Year and Happy New YOU! :-)

  7. Hi @@CindyI114! So glad to hear from you and learn you are "home" now! Sorry to hear your struggling a bit to get your fluids in (which are SO important to get all in) and trouble with your sleep. It'll get better as the days go on. It's the early days post-op that we need a lot of patience, I think. I glad to know you know the signs of dehydration and hope you don't get to that point. The 5 lbs will be gone before you know it. With everything they pump into us while in the hospital it's expected. Keep working on sip, sip, sipping and walking around as much as your able. I went through the night time thing too and when I would wake up and couldn't sleep I'd just get up. I'd eventually go back to bed. That worked best for me.

I'm 16 days post-op and starting to feel more and more like me again. I've been going to the grocery store and I've been getting my walking in that way. This morning I went to the mall early and walked for about 35 minutes. Felt great to do that!

Please take care and PM any time. I'd love to keep in touch! (You can friend me too.)

  8. I'm 24 days post op (sleeve) and in the past week I've started having the worst hip pain at night. If I sleep on my side, that hip will be excruciatingly painful in the morning. Anyone else experience this?

I'm curious if you ever found out what was causing your hip pain. I'm two weeks out (SD 10/18/16) and about 5 days ago my outer right thigh starting aching. At first I thought it was from the Heparin shots the gave me in my right thigh. But then it felt like it was in my buttock :o I had my follow up visit and shared this with my doctor. She sent me on for xrays. She doesn't think it is the Sciatic nerve because I do have relief from time to time during the day. At night the pain is awful. On a scale from 1 to 10 I'm at a 10! So, I'm wondering if you found anything out or did it go away - and when did it go away?

  9. Hello Minnesota! Anyone around these days?

I had my RNY last week (October 18, 2016) at mayo Clinic. Surgery went really well and I'm feeling pretty good! I started pureed foods Tuesday and am trying to learn when I'm full and when I'm hungry. It's kind of odd :-) So far I've only tried scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. I haven't ventured too far from that. I'd like to try refried Beans. That sounds kind of good to me.

Love to hear from others and how they are doing. When did you have your surgery, where, what are your challenges, what have your successes been and, of course, how much have you lost along with your height.

  10. Cindyl114: all the very best to you tomorrow as you start your new journey! I hope your headache goes away soon.

I'm doing really well I think. I'm getting all my fluids in and I started puréed phase yesterday! Yay!! I'm only eating like two or three bites but it helps.

My energy has been pretty good too. My m not sleeping all day or anything. Actually I haven't been sleeping well at night because I couldn't sleep in my side ... until last night! Thank goodness I could sleep on my right side with very little if any pain. I want to get myself in a walking schedule so I can get that in each day. Each day I be been getting out of the house and walking around stores. So my energy level isn't too bad and I don't nap during the day - but I am no ready to tackle going back to work yet.

Good luck tomorrow and let us know how you you are once you're ready and able.

  11. I'm one week out and I still can't lay on my side. I am not getting good sleep at all. I cannot wait until I can sleep like normal again!

I've been sleeping on my side since the night of surgery. I have very little pain or even soreness in my abdomen. It's unusual but I'm not complaining - I sleep for 10 hours a night. Hope you can sleep better soon!

I am envious, KristenLe! I just need to be patient. It'll come. Everything else is going so well Just wish I could sleep ... and comfortably.
