    Sizes Lost- stupid question

 Thanks slim! Okay, so increments... I can work with that. My friend asked how many sizes I'd lost and I said I didn't know, I didn't want to ask how I would count! lol. I know it's silly, but oh well. I'm almost down below 300, I'm so excited! I can't believe this is actually happening for me. It's like I finally have a hold of my life and my body rather than it having a hold on me.

The plucking gets so old. It's like I'm plucking everyday! I can't imagine getting it waxed that often though, it would be too pricey. I keep a tweezer in my purse because you never know when you'll notice something.

    Word of Wisdom

True, but I eat way more meat than I used to... I've made the decision to eat my protein rather than drink it, but because of it, I eat plenty of tuna, chicken, beef.

    Racist coworker? I can't tell...

So, I have this coworker, let's call him "Bob". Bob is black. Bob recently came by my desk and saw a picture of myself and my husband. I'm white, my hubby is black. Since then, Bob has made three comments that have disturbed me. First I should say I don't particularly like Bob to begin with, he's very nice, but he's also very touchy, and I don't like to be touched. He hugs me and high fives me and what not. I haven't figured out how to politely get him to stop that either, but that's another story. Anyway, the first thing Bob said was "That's your husband? I never would have guessed!" The second thing Bob said was "You know, Heidi, I like you. Especially now because who I know you go with, I mean, married to." to this I replied "Is everything about race to you?" and the third thing Bob said... people in the office were talking about popcorn and Bob said he liked popcorn with hot sauce and said pretty loudly, "I know who else likes hot sauce and popcorn, Heidi's husband." Here's my issue, this guy has never met my husband. I am one to believe that stereotypes are generally made because some population actually fit the criteria. But I don't feel that a person should be judged based on stereotypes. I don't assume my Jewish friend owns a bank or that my hispanic friend is illegal. I don't assume that the black man sitting next to me walks with a limp and raps. It's just obnoxious that Bob seems to think he "knows" my husband based on stereotypes. Besides, the stereotypical black guy profile that Bob assumes could not be farther from my husband. My husband is a professional pianist and got his Bachelor's at the number 2 music school in the country. My husband is a broker in the financial industry, and his hobby is flying. My husband doesn't rap and doesn't even like listening to it. In fact, if anyone is a stereotypical black person in our family it's me. I guess I'm overly sensitive. My husband has often gotten teased at his family functions for acting white. It bothers me that a person doing well is accused of "acting white" and can't just be doing well and receive a good job from his family. Ug! Okay, just had to get that out. This Bob is obnoxious. Boo for Bob!

    who supports right to choose

"Elimination of the death penalty [in California] would result in a net savings to the state of at least tens of millions of dollars annually, and a net savings to local governments in the millions to tens of millions of dollars on a statewide basis." (Joint Legislative Budget Committee of the California Legislature, 09/9/99) Total cost of death penalty is 38% greater than total cost of life without parole sentences. (Indiana Criminal Law Study Commission, January 10, 2002) Since its return to New York in 1995, $160 million has been spent. The New York Daily News estimates that before the first execution takes place, $238 million will be spent. In addition to the funds required to try death penalty cases, the New York Department of Correctional Services spent $1.3 million to construct New York's 12-inmate death row and pays nearly $300,000 per year to guard the unit. (New York Law Journal, April 30, 2002) Not that this thread is about the death penalty, but if you're going to disagree, you should support it. Based on my own research on the death penalty I've found that the death penalty is not beneficial for several reasons, which I won't outline here because again, this thread is for abortion. I just get frustrated when people start YELLING about their beliefs, but don't know the facts. If you believe it based on emotion, I'm fine with that, but don't claim you're coming from a place of logic when you're not. No matter who is killing who for whatever reason (abortion, death penalty, murder) killing someone is not right.

Wow, I'm so glad I don't think like that. BTW: to execute a person takes more money than if we just sentenced them to prison for life.

    Is anyone NOT exercising???

When I was first banded I exercised religiously. Now, I've got so much going on in my life I just don't have time. I've changed some habits though, parking farther away etc... but I was loosing more when I was able to exercise. Although, I DO keep paying for the gym month after month!
  11. MrsFlipFlops

    Electric and gas bills

Mine is soaring. We live in a two bedroom apartment and pay 350 a month! It's never been below 200. And we're not crazy users. It's just high. I think last month they charged us 23 cents a kwh.
  12. I voted no. If I wanted to talk about other surgeries I'd go to another site. Like OH or something. Frankly, I like having a site where people understand the issues faced by lapbanders alone. I don't think it's an issue of people being wanted or not. I chose LBT because the entire site was dedicated to lapband. If it's not going to be that way, then there's nothing special about it compared to sparkpeople or OH, etc. Actually, when I saw the other boards had been posted, I stopped coming for awhile. I don't want to come on so much if it's a free for all.

Wow, I think that's a bold statement. I don't know I know the statistics of men and their view on abortion, but I have met a fair amount of men who are pro abortion. I would think they would be more towards that side because then they don't have to go through the legalities of supporting someone they hadn't planned on.

    Caregivers unite!

This is part of a thread I posted too. Ug. I first should preface this by saying I LOVE my mom. But I'm so annoyed every once in awhile. My mom has an unknown neurological condition that has affected her ability to walk, her moods, and various other things. I am one of her primary caretakers, so I spend a lot of time taking her places, cooking for her and my dad, cleaning their house and what not. We went to the grocery store today. We go to the same store every Tuesday, so we see the same people. They're all very kind and helpful to my mom in her wheelchair. I find most people are annoyed that she is in a wheelchair and they cut her off or brush by her, or stand in front of her in the aisle when she's trying to look at something in the store, so I'm particularly grateful for these kind people. We were checking out and my mom was watching the prices. My mom started yelling at our checkout lady saying "How can you charge these kinds of prices? Don't you feel ashamed to work here and steal money from people?!" And on and on. I got on my mom and said, "Mom, she doesn't control the prices... if you have a concern about the prices, let's go home and write a letter to send to the company." The poor girl said, "I know they're high, I guess because gas prices have gone up so have groceries too." My mom said "That's just the lies they tell you... blah blah blah" I'm just annoyed that a perfectly pleasant trip to the store turned into a bad situation. I told mom once we got out of the store that all she did was make that lady's day worse. My mom is not a mean person, but her neurological condition makes her mood change from pleasant to angry in moments. I work a full time job and have a disastrous 4 day schedule so I can spend my 5th business day with my mom, along with weekends and evenings. I hate my job, but I stay because they allow me that flexibility to take care of my mom... but when I have days like this, it makes me want to scream! I guess I'm just frustrated because I take care of mom, work full time, and have a household and a husband to take care of. I feel guilty for being upset with her. I feel bad that I'm feeling like I make a huge sacrifice for her and she doesn't even care. I know she's my mom and has made tons of sacrifices for me too, but my mom has been sick all my life and it makes me feel like I never really had a mom! I just feel so alone, and it's not fair that I never had a mom! It's not fair that while my friends and their moms are having girls days out and talking like best friends, or relating on a mom/daughter level, I'm being a caregiver for my mom. I'm too young for this, MY MOM is too young for this! It just makes me want to crawl into bed and cry.

    The Grocery Game

Another thing that helps plan meals is relishrelish.com and mealmixer.com. One is just $7 and I use it to coordinate my meals to what's on sale that week.

    The Grocery Game

I used to do thegrocerygame.com, but I found that I saved the same amount of money just by watching the ads and matching my coupons to the ads. I cancelled the game after two months. I just didn't want to spend the money on something I felt I could do myself. I do use a site called thecouponmom, which is basically the same thing, but free. Seriously, on Sunday, I sit down with the papers for the various stores, plus my coupons. Each trip I save at least $50. I have cut my food bill from $500 to $350.

    Am I on target?

I can't seem to decide... somedays I feel like I'm doing well and somedays I can't seem to understand why I haven't lost more weight. Since 2/1 (the day I started my low carb pre op diet) I've lost 33 pounds. I feel like this isn't enough, and I've seen others lose more quickly. I'm having a hard time adjusting my eating habits and behaviors. I STILL love you eat. My biggest problem is eating out. Even though I don't eat as MUCH, I still eat, and when I want more I drink with my meal. I just had my second fill, which helped, and I got for a third in about three weeks... Can anyone tell me... am I on target? My doctor says I'm doing well, but I just don't feel like I am today!

    'registering' for birthday gifts??

Wow, that's crazy! Seems people have lost the meaning of the word "gift"! I wouldn't buy anything on the list and would have also accidently deleted it! Of course, if they were a really close friend I'd tell 'em what's what. lol
  22. MrsFlipFlops

Anyone else close to being under 300lbs????

Wow Diva, congrats! Good job Russ! I have 16 more pounds until I hit that mark... I'm so excited I can't wait! I haven't seen a 2 on my scale in YEARS!

    Fhe

I just had the coolest FHE with my husband last night. A lot of FHE activities are lost on us, because we don't have kids... but last night, my hubby was in charge and had a list of 15 topics from Tithing, to Priesthood, the Jesus Christ. For each topic, we each shared a spriritual experience we've had that was related. It was very insightful. I learned a lot about my husband!! So next week is my turn? Anyone have thoughts for FHE for people with no kids??
