Oh my gosh. This was a rough day. Headachey, brain foggy, tired, and hurting pretty badly. I did eat a protein bar instead of a protein shake for one meal. And my "sensible dinner" wasn't the best choice, but it also wasn't horrible. I did drink a huge amount of water (and had to pee constantly) and managed a whole heck of a lot better than I actually thought I would. Learned a bit about how I need to space my protein drinks through the day. Tomorrow will be better. :)

  3. 2 week checkup today... cleared for pureed AND soft foods... Doc thinks everything looks good. Down 17 lbs since surgery day; 30 lbs from highest weight. Clothes are starting to get a little looser, wedding band still fits. Will feel SO much better in a couple of days with real food.

Yes! real food for me was the big turning point for me....It all gets better from here!!

  4. 3 month checkup yesterday, doc is pleased. Lost a little bit of muscle mass, need to get more serious about protein and exercise. Otherwise, things are going great. Waiting on labwork about vitamins.

I have auto-immune arthritis. I can't pull the foil seal off of the coffee creamer. LOL. I've had to have my family open bottles (pop top and screw top) for a couple of years now. I need to get some arthritis helper gadgets around the house, but part of me feels that's giving in. LOL

My sweetie has Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and Raynaud's disease. How do you think that I felt when she had to open my stuff? It certainly wasn't manly! Two weeks of the grip thingies and all is well again :)

Half the fun of any journey is the planning. You, my friend are doing a smacked up job of going into your WLS with eyes wide open and your head in the right place. I look forward to observing your joyful and successful journey.

  6. 4 weeks out. Still can only get about 2-3 oz of solid food in at a time, but have figured out the best ways to get a decent amount of calories and protein. Checkup today, we'll see if the stall has broken.

I can get 4-5 oz of yogurt,, pudding, applesauce, etc. But when I'm eating solid food, only 2-3 oz. I'm probably not chewing it up enough and waiting long enough between bites, but I'm working on it. :)

Try shrimp, crab and fish. Eat about half and wait 15-20 minutes. It works well for me like that. I can do chicken and tender beef and anything that swims this way but pork is my nemesis. That really sucks because we love swimmers and oinkers.

I hope you have a great deal of success. I have come to believe I do not like fish due to all the PCB warnings about not eating fish when I was a little girl. somehow I got that groove stuck in my brain. as an adult I try different seafood when my husband has it, but I really don't like it. I keep trying though.

    3. theantichick

      theantichick

Yeah, I try but I physically gag with most non-starchy vegetables, and can't force myself to swallow without puking. That's the reason I started seeing a therapist, I needed to fix this whether I had the surgery or not. She's not a huge fan of WLS, but respects my choice and approved of the thought I had to use the post-op food progression as a sort of re-feeding/re-parenting kind of experience to try and reset my taste buds and deal even more with the food reaction.

@MrsSugarbabe - I am back to full days. I am in IT so it's not a physical job. I worked all last week from home for comfort and the ability to lie down or take a break as needed. My department has partial work from home, I am in the office MWF and work from home TTh. They just started that the week before my surgery, so it's going to help me transition back.

  13. Bad fatigue and brain fog day. Want to sleep, but am at work and when I get home I have grad school homework.

  14. Better day today, switching things up to up the protein and fluid intake.

      #9grammy

Yeah the chronic pain is the worse kind. I had to go off Celebrex and baby aspirin 7 days before surgery. Oh my the fibro was horrible as well as every arthritic bone in my body! Even the liquid vicodine didn't help much except for the incisions. Wish I would've done this before all the chronic pain set in!

    3. Djmohr

      Djmohr

It is not fun that is for sure. I am finally off all the crap they had me on for the last year trying to deal with my spine pain. I have Oseteo Arthritis and Psoriatic Arthrits. They had me on a fentanyl patch, desiprimine, Lyrica, Cymbalta, cyclobenzaprine all at the same time. I was drugged out and barely functioning yet my pain was still severe. I decided enough of this crap and made them start weaning me off. I have been off all of it besides the muscle relaxer. That is the only thing that actually helps my pain.

Now i see a new pain specialist on wed they are talking about trying Botox in the muscle below my right shoulder blade. Anyone tried that?

    4. Djmohr

      Djmohr

It took me 3 months to wean off of all of it too. I still have severe pain but at least I am alert and semi functional. I spend a lot of time in the swimming pool because I don't feel pain in there. I wish I had a job that I could swim to. LOL. For me, no work until they get that pain resolved at least to a tolerable level

  17. Day 2 of the pre-op diet went much better than Day 1. Still got headachey and groggy, but it wasn't as bad. Now for Day 3 and the weekend challenge!!

    1. Sharyn

      Sharyn

I'm on day 2 also. Not headachy but hungry and crabby, read B****y! I AM HUNGRY ALL THE TIME! I can't wait for surgery, maybe then I won't feel like this. I keep trying to be busy, and that helps a little.

    2. Christinamo7

      Christinamo7

the weekend challenge indeed! the liquid diet after surgery was the hardest part for me, but I would imagine it is even more so before surgery.

  18. Day 2 pre-op. Yesterday went pretty good. Learned a lot, made some not-great-but-not-horrible choices. Today will be better.

  19. Down 46 lbs. Pants are getting looser, will likely have to break out the "skinny pants" box from the back of my closet this week. Have a HUGE pile of clothes to donate to a friend who had VSG and is having wardrobe challenges.

LOL. The doc doing the "supervised diet" actually was questioning my PCP's choice in BP meds, and wants to put me on diet pills. LOL. NO. I had to have a cardiac procedure after the last time I was prescribed a stimulant. Honestly, I think his scales are off, my PCP's scales read very differently only a few days before, and I hadn't been binging or anything.. My insurance doesn't have a weight loss requirement in the supervised diet phase, so I'm hoping a slight gain by his count doesn't affect the decision. To be honest, I resent the insurance company requirement, and haven't been adhering to the diet plan with the RA fatigue and everything, it's super hard to stick to plan. :/

  25. Have definitely stalled. Not worried about the weight, but I know I need to get my protein and calories up a bit from what I've been managing.
