  1. I am so hella sick of protein shakes. Having to force myself to drink them to get my protein, as the powder makes pre-made pudding and yogurt taste funny. Won't get cleared for puree/soft until Wed afternoon. I'll get through this, but last night I seriously wanted to suck the salt off of a cracker my hubby was eating. LOL. Chew and spit makes more sense in my head now. LOL

How about making some bone broth, adding some nutritional yeast to increase the protein, then drinking it either hot or cold?? Might be a nice savory change.

I used to drink the Unjury chicken broth a lot as well. It was a nice change from all the sweet protein drinks. I still drink it once in awhile.

      theantichick

The Unjury soup was ok, but not great, and I ran out of my samples. We're working with different methods of getting protein powder in broth or boullion, that's better but it's tricky with the powder. I picked up some premier protein, it's better. I'll get through it. :)

  2. I can't figure out how to post status updates from my phone, and didn't pull my laptop out while I was at the hospital. My doc keeps us overnight to make sure we're tolerating fluids and protein shakes, so I got home about 1pm today. Am sore... yesterday it was epigastric today it's that abdominal muscle they split to take the stomach out. But it's not too bad, I've had zero nausea and only one hiccup fit (boy that hurt). I'm learning how big of sips I can take, and trying to stay hydrated. Took SIX sticks for my bloodwork this morning, because I slept more than I drank yesterday.

Ok. Ok, get your slimming arse up off of the "Losers' Bench" and get on with the rest of your joyful life! You have SOOOO got this I'm surprised you were allowed to sit at all on "The Bench". With your attitude and determination you will probably become the new "poster gal" for WLS. You've worked hard ---learned hard and seem to have more common sense than anyone in my family :). It will be a joy to follow your journey. You're off to a wonderful start! Congrats!

  3. I didn't get the surgery for cosmetic reasons, but I'm still ridiculously happy when I put on an outfit and find that it's WAY too big. Donation box is already getting full. I didn't think 35 lbs would make that much of a difference, but it has. :)

    1. theantichick

      theantichick

I'm about to have to go to the fabric store and get some knit jersey to make a few maxi skirts with drawstring waists. All of my current maxi skirts now won't stay up. I have pants going down a couple of sizes, but at this rate it won't be long before I'm screwed for clothes. I thought my tops would work out longer, but I put on one of my favorites yesterday and looked in the mirror and was shocked at how ridiculously big it was. Granted, it was loose before but now it looked clownish. So my tops are having to go in the donation box faster than I'd have predicted. But for me, tops are easy, it takes forever to find pants to fit me, even when I'm in "normal" sizes. Hence the skirts until I'm at goal. :)

Cosmetic is as valid as any of the other reasons.

    3. theantichick

      theantichick

I agree that cosmetic is a valid reason. I'm just saying it didn't even play into the decision for me.

I know it can make some people have discomfort/pain, but for me it works beautifully, and it really helps me get more fluids down.

  5. I found out just now that I have zero tolerance for food that doesn't taste good. Used to be if something was "eh" I would go ahead and eat it. Now, I have a certain amount of sleeve space, and I'm not giving it up for food that isn't pretty darned good.

  10. I think I'm in a small stall. I haven't been on the scale every day, just every once in a while out of curiosity. I'm not stressing about it, but I haven't lost any for about 5 days now. I'm sure it will pick up again once I can get more than 600 cal a day. I am still loving this, having the emotional food thoughts so clearly separated from the physical is really eye-opening.

    2. theantichick

      theantichick

3 weeks, 2 days. Still struggling to get in enough protein every day, and get my calories up to something approaching normal. I do pretty OK, just not quite where I want to be. So I tire out SUPER easy, but other than that doing pretty good, actually.

  11. I thought I completely went off the rails for my birthday weekend. Didn't log anything, didn't drink a single protein shake, didn't go out of my way to get protein or whatever. Ate a few things that are not on plan, but found I only wanted a couple bites of them. Down 1# after the weekend, so it must not have been too horrible. Now it's Monday and I'm back on track. :)

  13. I'm a BAAAAAD AntiChick. Just realized with the FREEZING FREAKING COLD today (Saturday started out at 72 and ended at 19, gotta love Texas) I haven't felt like drinking anything today except my protein shake. I'm going to get dehydrated and have yet another migraine if I don't down some fluids!!

      Djmohr

@theantichick, First....don't talk to me about the cold. It has been in the negative temps here is Wisconsin but only after dumping about 10 inches of snow on us.

Secondly...I would really like to figure out why I am getting so many migraines. i too have been on a run for the last 6 weeks. I am using my Dihydroergotomine too often and its so expensive and hard to get that I wish it would stop. None of my usual stuff is working for me.

    3. theantichick

      theantichick

@Djmohr ... yeah, but you CHOSE to live in the Tundra. LOL. I grew up in Alaska. I used to miss the cold. Until I developed auto-immune arthritis. Now it can suck it. LOL. My abortive (Maxalt) works fine. I just need to get them to stop happening so often. I gave up and went back on Topamax, but we're just starting out at the low dosages now, so it'll take a while. Sigh.

  17. I've been resting and focusing on fluids and protein. I can't post status updates from my phone, and hadn't felt like getting the laptop out. :) I've gotten a minimum of fluids in each day, but not up to goal, and haven't been able to get protein in well. But yesterday was better than the day before, and today has started off really well. I'm able to drink more, and should meet goals today. Pain has been worse from my arthritis than the surgery since day 3, which is annoying but I'll take it. Working from home this week, so I should be able to keep drinking like I should. Followup and purees coming on the 31st. :)

I am glad to see the progress you're making. you seem like you are doing well, and making good progress. I have arthritis in my spine diagnosed since surgery, just talked to the NP at my visit this week about starting a supplement to help me with the pain. will probably order it this week to give it a try. I don't like to feel so much physically better in so many areas and to be held back because of that, you know?

I'm just frustrated. I submitted $700 in therapy bills from a provider I found on my insurance website, she's in-network. The superbills all had her name, her NPI # and her license #. They don't show her license type. The insurance company took 2 weeks for this to show up on the website, and it's marked as "miscellaneous provider", out of network, and pending getting the provider's name, degree, license type, and license #. I called to find out if they're getting that from her, or if I need to do something, since no one has contacted me. The nice lady on the phone said no, they haven't contacted the provider because they didn't have contact information. Her phone number and email are on the superbill. I told her that most of the information they need is on the bill, and the provider is in-network, that's how I found her. She said "oh, that's odd. Let me try putting it in and submitting it. But I don't know if they'll take it verbally, or if we need it in writing". Insurance companies will do anything to keep from paying claims. I have extensive experience fighting them (I had a knee surgery that they considered experimental and investigational - but it wasn't, I wore them down but it took 8 months) so I'll not give up, but gosh, I hate insurance companies.
